  1. Not James Webb related, but an incredible feat nonetheless. https://scitechdaily.com/astronomers-watch-a-star-die-and-then-explode-as-a-supernova-for-the-very-first-time/ Astronomers Watch a Star Die and Then Explode as a Supernova – For the Very First Time It’s another first for astronomy. For the first time, a team of astronomers have imaged in real-time as a red supergiant star reached the end of its life. They watched as the star convulsed in its death throes before finally exploding as a supernova. And their observations contradict previous thinking into how red supergiants behave before they blow up. A team of astronomers watched the drama unfold through the eyes of two observatories in Hawaii: Pan-STARRS on Haleakala, Maui, and the W. M. Keck Observatory on Maunakea, Hawaii Island. Their observations were part of the Young Supernova Experiment (YSE) transient survey. They watched the supernova explosion, named SN 2020tlf, during the final 130 days leading up to its detonation.
  2. A few years ago there was a thread on here about the best concerts you'd seen. I, like a number of others, mentioned that concert. I did some digging, thinking maybe it was some collective stupor shared by those of us who were there. I found the audio for the concert an you can hear Daltrey saying after the song, "I don't think even the Rolling Bones could do that" Or maybe it was Townsend, can't be sure..and it doesn't matter. While I was doing my internet digging, I found an interview with Kenny Jones. He was asked about which venue he'd like to play again. He said Buffalo and recounted the story. Then he said something like, you can't write a better script than that.
  3. I think the first game against CIncy played the biggest role. You're right, Cinci came back 3 time from a 2 TD deficit. And they came back from a 17-0 halftime deficit to win. I really believe they went for the TD because they were saying to themselves, "17-0 wasn't enough last time, we need to put the dagger in the heart right now". And when it failed, the first seeds of doubt were planted in their heads. The first series of the 2nd half looked like it increased that doubt. It snowballed from there. I don't know if that's overconfidence or disinterest, I see it as the opposite...lack of confidence and a fear of history repeating itself. If anything, they might have been pushing too hard. Mahomes did all of that running in the backfield because he was looking to make the big play instead of taking the easier yards. He does that often, obviously, but it really takes over when he thinks their back is up against the wall. Its what he did earlier in the season, but it lessened as the season went on. It looked to me like the first Cinci game was in their heads from the end of the first half. And I saw that same look in Warren Moon's eyes during the 2nd half of the comeback game.
  4. I described this elsewhere, but I'll just say that in our long walk around Arrowhead post game...from our seats to our car, Chiefs fans constantly were coming up to us to say, "great game", "hell of a team", things like that. Fist bumps, handshakes, and high fives people gave me totaled well over 100. Its always easier to say "good game" when you are on the winning side, but it is just as easy to say "Ha, you guys suck". The ratio of Chiefs fans who showed respect over the few loser comments was so high it isn't worth mentioning. Overwhelmingly, people realized they had just witnessed something historic.
  5. I smiled a few times. At least he left out the volleyball scene and didn't put Josh in a bedroom scene with Kelly McGillis.
  6. A while back, a movie was made about it called Joyeux Noel. It was pretty good. Of course, they took some liberties with it, but not too many. *****SPOILER ALERT CHRISTMAS CAROLS AHEAD*****
  7. for Christmas Eve, its this. We did it last year and it came out great. My oldest will do the sauce and meatballs on Thursday and we'll put it together on Friday. We used the Binging with Babish recipe., except 1) I braise the meat for the meatballs, not grind it; and 2) I don't make my own rigatoni...that's insane. On Xmas day, the traditional ham and pierogis. My gram's cheese pierogi recipe. In 2 days I'll eat more than in a normal week, I think.
  8. We ended up taking my 82 year old mother in law when I was in town for the WFT game. The handicap lot was full when we got there, but the parking people put us in a spot right next to that lot. Right after going through the gate where the handicap lot is (6?), to the right there is a phone along the fence. You can call and they can send someone with a wheelchair to take you to your section. In our case, I just walked behind her as she ascended the stairs to our row. Not having to walk halfway around the stadium to get to our section helped her. On leaving, there are phones in the concourse for the same purpose. Just call and a person with a wheelchair shows. Hope it helps.
  9. I don't agree that it was a Catch22. First, Edmunds had inside leverage on the guard. Second, his head was above the guard's left shoulder. He had perfect line of sight on Fournette, probably the best line of sight of anyone on the D. There was no reason for him not to see Fournette's cut upfield. When Fournette makes his cut, Edmunds does nothing to attempt to mirror him and in fact, keeps moving outside. By the time he makes any type of move back to the inside, Fournette has taken three strides up field and is long gone. https://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=32854225&ex_cid=espnapi_internal It can be argued, perhaps, that he couldn't have shed and came back to make a tackle in time...but the point is moot because he never even attempted to do so. But I also realize that he was drafted for his size/speed/COD skills. It is in a situation like that where those skills come in handy. Someone else said it best about Edmunds. By the time he diagnoses a play, the RB is already through the hole. In below average QB's, some call it slow eyes. And that's what he has.
  10. Your first video after seeing the homemade shields and esp. the guys in back wearing shin guards...I can only hear the Dark Knight in the background saying, "I'm not wearing hockey pads." As to the second video, its right out of Letterkenny
  11. A relatively new show, but Wayne from Letterkenny is already moving quickly up the ranks on an all time list. The show looks to be part Fight Club, part Dukes of Hazzard, part Trailer Park Boys and part Clerks the original..the good one.
  12. I agree with most of that unless your boss to be is a name dropper. At Arthur Bryant's you can bring up that 4 presidents have eaten there, (OK 3, I'm sure Clinton had someone get a take out order at one time), actors, directors, etc, etc. Its a good way to show your prospective boss your research skills, lol.
  13. Its actually pretty rare to find a direct flight from KCI to BUF on any airline. Living in KS, I've flown KC-Buf maybe 2 dozen times and only had a direct flight once. So congrats on the rare find. Tip: United seems to have more restrictive baggage requirements. At least when we flew 3 years ago, the only baggage that was free was the one you could put under your seat. They charged for the ones you put in the overhead compartment. And if you, (or anyone else), has never been to KCI, it is one of the easiest airports to navigate. IT is shaped like a cloverleaf, with a big circle connecting the terminals and smaller circles for each terminal. If you miss either or terminal or gate area, just drive around the circle again. There are shuttles to take you to the car rental area. Buffalo's Airport just sucks...it really does.
  14. That was a pretty good guide. Well, very good, especially identifying the places to avoid. But in KC..the nice thing is, if you pick a place at random, the odds of getting good BBQ are better than getting bad BBQ. I will say that if this is a person's first, or possibly their only trip to KC, and if a person wants to say, "I've been there"...its Arthur Bryant's of Gates. Arthur Bryant's is the creator of the burnt end...an order should be on everyone's food based Bucket List. Gates is...well...Gates. I still use both of their sauces, because both have bite to them and neither has that too sweet taste. Arthur Bryant's is like walking into Allen Fieldhouse. Its an old building, ugly and without any modern creature comforts. But when youlook at the photos of who has been there, its like Allen Fieldhouse and seeing the banners. You know you are in someplace special. Ooops...forgot to add a very good article on Arthur Bryant's. https://sportsworld.nbcsports.com/the-proper-way-to-order-bryants-burnt-ends/
  15. Yeah, I think I know who they are in talks with...
  16. Any XXX feature shown at the Wehrle Drive In in the mid to late 70's.
  17. I found a recent interview with him..he said it was a toe injury. https://gazette.com/news/mitchell-football-superstar-terry-miller-talks-about-his-glory-and-his-crime-david-ramsey/article_1363fcc4-04a0-11ea-ad2e-87c76839afaf.html ...Miller had sprinted so far, so fast since catching that punt in Memorial Park, but his joyride crashed on his journey to the Great White North of Buffalo. He gained 1,060 yards as a rookie, ninth best in the NFL. Stardom looked just around the bend. Next season, he suffered a severe left toe injury and rushed back to the field too quickly, leading to a series of leg injuries. Some days, he says, the toe still hurts. Two seasons later, in 1981, his battered body no longer could compete with NFL linebackers. His spectacular decade of football dominance was over. He was only 25.... I agree with what someone else said, his rookie year wasn't all that spectacular to begin with. I remember an older cousin coming back from college that year and asking us how Miller was doing. I remember my Dad and I looking at each other and saying the same thing, "he's not exactly setting the world on fire". His rookie year, he had that game and a 100 yard game in the last game of the season. Every other game was around 50-60 yards and a YPC barely over 3. I always thought he looked tentative. And he was the RB I wanted in that draft. He really was a stud in college. Oklahoma St. wasn't really a powerhouse but he produced like few others. I always saw him as a nice replacement for OJ, considering the bushel of draft picks Knox got in the trade. But it wasn't to be. When Cribbs came in 2 years later, and I watched him hit the hole, I thought..."this is how MIller should be running." Ha..you beat me by a few minutes
  18. The house looks so nice...and then you get to the kids' room, which looks like an Amtrak sleeping compartment...the one without the bathroom.
  19. Hoosiers...yeah, that's a movie you should see. Its the classic sports movie that's not too over the top. Gene Hackman was ..Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper was excellent. One cool thing about it was that none of the players were professional actors, they were college and high school basketball players.
  20. Interesting about the running bit. According to the actress in it,( Kelly Lynch?), she said every time it was on TV, Bill Murray would call her husband and say, "Patrick Swayze is sleeping with your wife right now!"
  21. A Quiet Place II can go on the "good sequels" side of sequels. I saw it last night. Even though they did much of what was done in the original, it came out pretty good. The deaf daughter is the hit of this one. And of course, there are enough WNY landmark scenes considering it was filmed in WNY. Akron, aka Anytown, USA is featured in the 15 minute prequel/origins story. The Grand Island Bridge, the ruins of Bethlehem Steel and Olcott all get screen time. Considering the waterfall scene in the original, and further considering they chose to film in WNY, I know they were tempted to make a community of survivors living in the Cave of the Winds...but alas..they didn't.
  22. Yeah, people actually thought Turner Gill would be better than Mangino...lol...all these years and I still shake my head at the thought.
  23. There's a video on FB, but Im not a FB'er. My alma mater. A Sunday feel good video. https://www.wkbw.com/sports/high-school/i-feel-like-its-an-advantage-for-me-a-deaf-football-player-shines-with-the-lancaster-legends 'I feel like it's an advantage for me': a deaf football player shines with the Lancaster Legends' Every football team has its own way of relaying formations, plays, and schemes to the players on the field. If in-helmet headsets aren't an option, coaches often get creative. If you watch closely, depending on who you're watching, you might see memes on large posterboards on the sideline. The Lancaster Legends use superheroes as a part of their vernacular on offense. Their defense, on the other hand, signs in the coverages.
  24. The Kings!!
  25. I remember this in my parents' record cabinet as a kid. Who needed a Cosmo magazine when you had her?
