  1. Both of my sons saw it, both highly recommended it. My oldest saw it twice already. Both specifically told me I need to see it. My youngest told me I'd like it because it has a ot of blues music in it. I know it takes place in 1930's Mississippi, so yeah, I figured the blues would come into play. But they really liked it.
  2. I've got a Hisense 4k (smaller screen 50 inch), and it works great after 5 years. I picked it because when I was looking in Best Buy, it had by far a clearer, sharper picture than most others. I did end up having to buy a Roku player though. It has a few apps, but even in its app store, they are pretty limited. Not even Youtube TV. But other than that, it works fine. **An aside, as to the loose wire thingy. Years ago, I had an old Sony rear projection tv that lasted forever. But the screen was getting really light, to the point you couldn't read writing on the screen. I was about to toss it, figuring the lamps were dimming and replacements were probably the cost of a new tv. Then i came across a vid on Youtube about how to clean the inside of one. It turned out to be easy. Lamps and the back of the screen were a bit dusty, but it was the mirror in the back that was really gray. After cleaning and polishing the mirror, it was in near new condition. I kept it another several years before putting it on the curb with a sign that said, "works really well"., I doubt it lasted to midnight. I wish I could have kept the sound system and hooked it up to my Hisense. It was far superior, but that would be beyond my pay grade for electronics.
  3. I can give you my thought process, as best I can remember it. But not taking a CB in the 1st 2 rounds was really due to what happened in the 1st. -as I said, both Trey Amos and Hairston were taken before pick 30 in the sim I ran. I may have, or probably would have, taken either if they were available. Especially with the depth of the DT class. In the second, things get a little more sticky. Of those who were, or might have been available when they picked in the 2nd... -Thomas from Florida St. known as a man cover corner. Kair Elam flashbacks are too fresh. -Revel from East Carolina...(not even sure if he was there)... coming off a knee injury early in the season last year, didn't do any testing this spring. No one is sure if he is available this year. -Morrison from ND. Hip injury. Hip injuries always make me nervous. Esp in younger athletes. -Porter from Iowa St. Excellent athlete, has exactly 1 year as a starter at corner. I don't have problems with a switch from WR to CB, especially if they turn into a Richard Sherman. But there is certainly no guarantee of that happening and he is by no means a sure thing. -Parrish from Kansas State is definitely fast and pretty good. he was the one I was hoping for in the 4th. The 2 CBs I took later in the draft scored close to what the guys I passed on in the 2nd, if you put any credence in Lance Zeurline's ranking scores. They may be boom or bust, but I wouldn't write them off as practice squad fodder. Both have good size/speed combinations and a history of production. What I did get in the 1st and 2nd were 3 players that have a good chance of contributing significantly right away in areas of need. In fact, each has a chance at being a bona fide difference maker. As far as Tre White goes, idk. Maybe I'm a little more optimistic than others. I wasn't expecting much out of him last season anyway. It seems that it takes a year of playing after an injury like that to get their play back. It April. There are still options if all you are going to need is a CB 2.
  4. Yeah, it depends who is there at 30...and its a classic case of how the board falls. Example, in my latest mock, Amos and Hairston were both off the board. So Im not sure there was going to be a Round 1 CB available. I can see something like that happening, because the CB group seems to drop off pretty quick after them. But as a door was shut, a window was open. Nolen was available at 30, so it wasn't a difficult decision. I missed out on CB (maybe), but I like the way the rest of the positions came out: 30 Walter Nolen DL | Mississippi A+ Again, not a difficult choice in a position of need. 56 Jayden Higgins WR | Iowa State A+ Everyone is looking for a pure speed burner at WR and I agree for the most part. Higgins is big at 6'4" 215 but he's not slow. He did a 4.47 at the Combine. More importantly, the one word that comes to describe him is ....smooth. About 1200 yards last year and that was sharing targets with Jaylin Noel. A favorite of Greg Cosell. If you watch him run routes, he glides in and out. What really sold me was watching Steve Smith discuss him. But right before that, I saw that he did an e v a l on Coleman's rookie season and he kind of slammed him. (Nah, he did slam him). he talked about wasted movement, wasted steps. There were enough "WTF is he doing?" comments. Then when I watched him break down Higgins, it was the opposite. Footwork, spatial awareness, smoothness. He has what Coleman doesn't. He can get open at the 2nd and 3rd levels. Steve Sith gives a comp of Mike Evans. Im thinking Jordy Nelson. 62 Xavier Watts S | Notre Dame A+ SAfety position still needs work. And Im less confident that Cole Bishop gets it, but part of that was waiting for Kair Elam to get it. So Mr. Instincts was available, not a difficult choice. 109 Ashton Gillotte EDGE | Louisville B+ In the ever elusive search for an edge rusher, Mr. Lower Body comes off the board. Really strong in the lower body, you can see it. And some bend to him. Not sure why his numbers fell off a bit last year, but he had an outstanding 2023. Well worth taking a shot at him. 132 Zah Frazier CB | UTSA B+ Finally a CB . All American JUCO, all conference at a small school UTSA. Tall (6'3") with excellent speed. 4.35 at the Combine. 6 ints and 9 PBU last year. 169 David Walker EDGE | Central Arkansas B+ Double dipping on the edge rusher pool. Mr. Backfield resident. Had over 60 TFL's and 30 sacks over the past 3 years in a small school. Shorter at 6'1", shorter arms at 32", but at 265, packs a punch and knows how to get there. The small school thing is a bit of a concern, but then, he was doing the same thing during Senior Bowl week, he was doing the same thing. 170 Jaydon Blue RB | Texas A+ picked for speed out of the backfield. Nothing else. End of convo. 173 Bilhal Kone CB | Western Michigan D Its late in day 3, best CB left at 173. Size and speed is good. 17 PBUs in the past 2 years. Worth a shot. 177 J.J. Pegues DL | Mississippi B+ Nolen gets his teammate to line up next to. Equally important, the Tush Push is gone. he was used in short yardage situations. 7 tds and 18 first downs isn't bad for a DT. He's big enough, strong enough and gets in the backfield enough. 206 Isaac TeSlaa WR | Arkansas B+ Eh, good speed, really good ypc average. Over 19 yards...not a bad way to end the draft. Not happy with the CB position, here's hoping Tre shows something more in his road to recovery. Personally, after an Achilles injury, I have always looked at the season they return as a throw away/rehab year. Its usually year 2 of the return that they actually come back..if they come back at all.
  5. Not happy with how the Cb choices fell, but I had to go quantity over quality, with the hope that one of them works out. Other needs, it didn't turn out bad. Doubled up on a number of positions 30. Derrick Harmon DT Oregon- Nolen and Grant were already taken, so it made the choice easy. It was going to be between those three anyway. 56. Jack Sawyer DE Ohio State- Based on production, esp. late year production while looking for the ever elusive pass rush. 62. Xavier Watts Saf Notre Dame- Mr. Instincts. Will probably be a day 1 starter. 109. Ashton Gillote DE Louisville- The Angry Bird. Hell of a lower body and knows how to jolt an OT. More than worth a shot at 109. 132. Tai Felton WR Maryland- speed to the outside with a 4.38 40. Could use a few pounds, but can get open deep and draw safeties from the middle of the field. 169. Jamaree Caldwell DT Oregon- Stout with a great first step, can add some run plugging on a rotational basis. More than one person has said, "I was watching tape on Harmon, and it was Caldwell that really stuck out. 170. Cobee Bryant CB Kansas 173. Jordan Hancock CB Ohio State 177. Bilhal Kone CB Western Michigan 206 Justin Walley CB Minn let 'em fight it out and hope one of them emerges. Or take the best traits of each and build one NFL starting CB.
  6. Definitely an eclectic mix, and I love that. I love when a band puts its own spin on a song. I mean, that's how Rock and Roll began. People took old blues classics and transformed them. The Stones, Zeppelin, Clapton, Allman Bros, the list goes on. Sometimes, the original song doesn't even have to be good. Example. A song I haven't heard in decades popped up on my Youtube the other night. Its all I really remember from the movie. Movie makers in the early 90s took a god awful Pat Boone song and gave it to Jeff Beck. "Jeff see what you can do with this". (Smiling) "let me see what I can do." If nothing else, the kids loved it. Keep it going. Happy to hear about the awards.
  7. Antonio Rebollo. A name so random I didn't know it until I pulled up the YT clip. But responsible for the coolest Olympic torch lighting in history.
  8. Ill just throw it out there, but if it is just Windows 11 you are worried about, you can get a free upgrade from Microsoft. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upgrade-to-windows-11-faq-fb6206a2-1a0f-448a-80f1-8668ee5b2bf9#:~:text=The upgrade to Windows 11,download is large in size.
  9. Biggest difference from last week. The Eagles defense isn't the Lions defense.
  10. In the middle of Chiefs country. The watch party has dwindled since my son and his gf are going to Arrowhead. Still have a few coming over. All Chiefs fans. Ribs were cooked yesterday. Im saying screw it, making jambalaya. Getting ready for New Orleans. It still has Franks in it. Just got back from the store, looking at everyone with their Chiefs coats on as opposed to my Bills jacket. Got out my phone and played the Shout song on my phone as I was walking down the aisles.
  11. Bingo! People think KC Masterpiece is the KC BBQ sauce. It isn't. Smoke belongs on the meat, not in the sauce. Gates or Arthur Bryants are the only sauces I'll use for ribs. Perfect combo of sweet and spice. Now excuse me, I have to dust the snow off my Weber and drag it from the backyard. Baby backs and wings tomorrow.
  12. I live in chiefs country, 70 miles from Arrowhead, and the majority I deal with are fine. Most have gotten a bit arrogant, but that's what you'd expect when you are looking to go for your 3rd straight SB. I can and often do, wear Bills gear in public and don't think twice about it. I don't get as many "go Bills" but I get more "good luck on Sunday" comments when I'm out. The latest was yesterday afternoon, I had my dog out when the mailman came. I had my vintage, Superbowl Era Starter Jacket on. We talked for a minute about other things, but as he was walking away, he said, "oh man, I gotta tell ya, I love that jacket." -I've said many times, after we were walking out of Arrowhead after the 13 second game, I received countless high fives, handshakes and "great game" comments from Chiefs fans. So many so that it basically drowned out the catcalls. -When my new neighbor moved in last year, when we introduced each other, one of the first things he said to me was "You're a Bills fan". I thought, damned, Zillow is getting thorough". Turns out he saw me mowing my lawn with a Bills Tee. - Probably the most accurate comment I got was a few months after the 13 second game. We were out and I had Bills gear on. A guy at the bar made a comment on it and we talked for a bit. What he said that was accurate, was "with Mahomes and Allen, if nothing else, we should have a rivalry for the next 10 years." -I will be doing some babybacks this Sunday for a few of the Chiefs fans coming over, well, along with some wings. NO BBQ SAUCE ON THE WINGS! THEY WILL EAT THEM WITH FRANKS OR NOT AT ALL!
  13. Forget the curveball, just give 'em the heater
  14. Bill Pullman? They need to bring him to the stadium to do a reworked version of his "Hell Yeah" Independence day speech. A little change of the words but it could be done.
  15. Reading the thread title, I thought Betelgeuse might have went supernova.
  16. He was drafted due to his athleticism being through the roof. But he always had a nasty streak to him. lower third round...basically a middle round pick, he was worth taking a chance on, I always thought, even if he wasn't a finished product. His high side was a Lane Johnson Lite, the low side...out of the league in a few years. The first two years, he really needed work, esp. with his back problems in his 2nd. I didn't have much hope for him after year 2, but that was due to his back. Not a good sign when someone that young, playing that type of position, needs back surgery that soon. He got his pass pro technique fixed, but I always thought he was pretty good as a run blocker. He could always move people. Edwards is the pleasant surprise for me. I saw him a few games with the Rams,. and wasn't impressed. That was before his injuries.
  17. It isn't the thread for it, but there is a recent western that I can recommend. I saw Old Henry the other night o the Roku channel and liked it. Low budget, limited cast and an all male cast. But Tim Blake Nelson is excellent in the lead role. It has a lot of elements of the Leone movies and closer to Unforgiven than anything that has come out in a long time. It has a "reveal", but you will figure it out long before it comes out. Anyone who watches westerns in the 21st century has a basic knowledge of the Old West and the little clues during the movie give it away. It has its flaws, but far better than anything that has come out in a while...like, say, the remake of the Magnificent Seven.
  18. Cribbs was Thurman Thomas Lite, before there was a Thurman Thomas. He'd hit the hole quick, fight for yards, good receiver out of the backfield and a willing blocker. He was a huge part of the offense for his first couple of years. He replaced the bust that was Terry Miller, who had been picked at 5th in the draft (I think) 2 years before. It wasn't a surprise that he bolted to the USFL at the time. This was a pre free agency, pre salary cap, pre Polian era, and the Bills...weren't paying some of their best players. Birmingham probably paid him at least twice of what Buffalo was willing to pay.
  19. My son likes his Blackstone, but then he has a pellet grill, so what does he know. I don't really need an outdoor griddle, I have a panini press. I could always flip the plates on it and plug it into an outdoor outlet, if I wanted to griddle outside. Weber Charcoal Round Kettle Still the most versatile grill on the planet, and it lasts forever. My wife bought me a used Weber as a father's day gift when she was expecting our first. It lasted until he graduated from high school Never covered it only replacements were the wooden handle for the lid and one of the little metal "hub caps" for one of the wheels. But that's me. everyone is different.
  20. pfft. When Cassidys burned, at least somoe ran in and save the wheel.
  21. Kelly used to joke that every time Andre Reed would come back to the huddle, he'd say, "Im open, throw me the ball". of course, that didn't happen too often in the 90s because they ran a no huddle offense. Maybe that's why they went to the no huddle, Kelly got tired of hearing Andre Reed say he was open. That was back in the day. But if Coleman was really disrespectful, Josh wouldn't have thrown him the TD pass later in the game. And yes, he threw it higher.. I just saw it as a simple gesture, "a little higher, I'll nab it for ya".
  22. In a way...(and I emphasize in a way, lol)...its a bit like the Lions taking Gibbs in the 1st. What I mean is that for most other teams, the pick wouldn't work. But the picks were made by 2 teams that were looking for a specific type of talent to fit a specific role. With Gibbs, the Lions took Gibbs when they had built their O line, were going to be a running team, had a back who could get the tough yards. They wanted a dual threat back who could take it to the house every time he touched the ball. For most other teams, taking a RB in the 1st wouldn't work. But it did for the Lions based on what they needed, how they had been built and what they wanted to accomplish. On many teams, especially teams in the process of rebuilding their Olines, it wouldn't work. Worthy was taken because the Chiefs didn't have a deep threat and it was needed. He wasn't taken as a No 1. He was taken to get open deep, to draw deep safety coverage and 2 run things like jet sweeps and find creative ways to get him open. Lots of other teams might want him to be their no. 1, to be more involved in run blocking, etc. But that wasn't what the Chiefs needed, or wanted. I agree, I wasn't keen on drafting him, I actually wanted them to trade up for Brian Thomas, especially as he started falling into the 20s. They could have used 1 of their no. 2's in next years draft to move up. But what's done is done.
  23. My son's are 1/4 italian, so a few years ago for xmas Eve, we made this: We pretty followed how he did it, except I did the meatballs a lil different (I braised some shortribs and pork), and definitely didn't make rigatoni/penne/hollow pasta by hand. A two day affair, since I made the sauce and meatballs the day before. He's right, at the end of the video, when he says, its more than a glorified lasagna. It is pretty cool to make. Actually, we made it 2 years in a row. PS, If you never saw it, Big Night is a very good movie. Written, directed and starring Stanley Tucci, with an excellent role from Tony Schalaub (sp.)...the guy from Monk. As far as the game goes, I'd make baked beans, but I plan on using the leftover hambone for Red Beans and Rice after Christmas.
