I don't think that win was "tainted" by any means. Both teams came out, played a hell of a game, and one of the teams won. I just can't necessarily say that the "better" team won, because those 20 guys in the Sabres uniforms were not the same 20 that got us to that point. I thought that the rookies stepped up and played a huge game, way above expectations, but it was still evident that the talent and experience of guys like McKee, Numminen, and Tallinder was sorely missed. And, FWIW, there is no discretion for that penalty, the referee _must_ make that call. The rule is, if a defender shoots the puck over the glass in his own zone and it doesn't touch anything, its a delay of game call. If it deflects off of another player, or if it hits the glass before going out of play, then it is not a penalty. OLN did not do a very good job looking closer at the play, as there was a Carolina player's stick very, very close to the puck, so it could have been tipped. I think it was Hecht who immediately signaled to the referee that he thought it was tipped, but I think only Brian Campbell and the carolina player know for sure. Campbell didn't say anything about it, but he may also know better than to stir up another controversy, because it would accomplish nothing. Also, remember that in '99, we complained that a rule that was on the books was _not_ enforced in a critical situation. In this case, a rule that is on the books _was_ enforced in a critical situation. We Buffalo fans can't have it both ways. While I don't like the rule (and I can't imagine it remaining a rule come next season), I don't blame it for this loss.

Well, I want Edmonton to win, but I just don't think they are going to... *sigh* Carolina in 5 :-(

Soupy has been playing great the last couple of games, both offensively and defensively. I think he'll be fine. But, I really want Lindy to come out gunning. Let the boys on the blue line jump into the play...encourage Paetch and Soupy to pinch....we are gonna need to put the puck in the net if we are gonna win this game, I don't see it being the defensive struggle that the last game was.

They just showed Ricky wearing an argos hat at the Blue Jays game. Apparently, he was drafted by the Phillys in '95...who knew?

Don't worry, the "new" NHL is far, far better than the one from 1999. In fact, if the 2006 Sabres played the 1999 Sabres with the new rules, even Hasek couldn't stop them.

Ha, thats funny, I actually watched the end of that game too. Now, I can't stand squeakball, but I've got a friend who likes the pistons so I stopped on it while flipping channels. I was shocked at how foolish that announcer sounded...it wasn't even after they scored, it was like "And now the DEEEETROIT BASKETBALL GUYS are going down the court with the ball!" Makes you kind of feel that pro basketball is more of a show than a sport, like WWE wrestling. It just doesn't have the built-in excitment of an NHL game 7.

They were promoting some contest or something at the end of the ones where he didn't say "Silly little fairy", so i think they needed to cut that out to have the time at the end. That commercial is getting annoying, but i want to shoot myself every time a Sprint commercial comes on. How freakin terrible are those ones? This is the problem with NHL playoffs...the commercials never change from round 1, so you see them over, and over, and over again. When I used to live in Buffalo, I'd alternate between watching CBC and ESPN (or fox, or whoever was doing it) just because I got so sick of the commercials on one that I had to flip to the other.

Get a Tivo, and use the internet radio stream of Rick and Jim. Or, get a Sirius replay radio, those can time shift, and Rick and Jim are usually on there (although, it was the ottawa guys for game 5).

I agree. At the end of last season, when we knew we were out of it, I was screaming at MM to play JP, cause win or lose, his brand of football was so much more exciting to watch than Holcomb's.

I dunno, I usually like CBC, but in this series they are basically rooting for ottawa. I don't necessarily blame them, as they are the canadian team, but it is a national broadcast, they should really try a little harder to not be homers.
