  1. I don't know that the cable companies would offer any better customer service, but there are literally millions of people who can't watch our favorite NFL teams at home because of the deal with directv. I'd happily spend the money on it (i spend way more going to sports bars), but i live in an apartment. IMHO, I'm in a major demographic that the NFL should really be going after....mid 20's, not married, no kids, disposable income and time on my hands to watch/go to football games. I'm willing to bet that a large majority of that demographic lives in urban areas in apartments where directv is not an option.
  2. The first two Carolina goals were really jokes. The first one, the Canes player clearly just ran Marty, and the puck went in of the skater's arm, which should have been disallowed but wasn't. The second goal was set up by a blatant interference on the defenseman by cole, which went un-called. So, the canes got some momentum on those....but when it came down to crunch time, the better team showed up.
  3. Yes, they do. They are not allowed to wear a suit, they must wear team apparel. So, coaches are in fact encouraged by the league to look like fat slobs.
  4. For those of us who didn't see it....what did they do?
  5. I think they were just messing with Philly, because its fun. Pretend like those thugs can hang with us, then rip their guts right out of them when it comes time to play real hockey.
  6. That one isn't bad.
  7. Thats not true....the space shuttle's computer systems have been upgraded as time goes on. However, being a former-ipod-current-white-paperweight owner myself, I wouldn't trust the technology in an ipod for one minute to get me into space. There is a big difference between commodity hardware and mission-critical hardware/software. The latter has far, far more quality control and is much harder and more expensive to produce. Off the shelf solutions would never get anyone into space. "old" technology to NASA is "proven" technology, and they aren't going to switch to some x86 processor because it can chug though 40x the instructions per second, all while consuming 10x the power and running so hot that the shuttle's head shield can't even handle it. NASA knows what it is doing, they are just taking every necessary precaution here, because people's lives depend on it.
  8. I thought possibly the funnies part of the movie was when the horse fell down right at the end of the anthem scene. You only saw it for like half a second, but it was just hilarious. Apparently, that wasn't staged...the horse somehow got upset at all the booing, but it just worked out so perfectly. That half a second scene, and the bear head in the fridge were just hilarious.
  9. There was nobody at my polling place in CT when I went, however it may just have been early... (around 7:30am). I expected more of a line, because there are 2 rather contentious races, Leiberman/Lamont and Shays/Farrell. I heard from some other people that there was something of a line. We haven't got Maccaca, but we do have a sore loser in Lieberman....get out and vote people!
  10. Is he the Maccaca guy? At least he provides entertainment.
  11. Shouldn't you be a little more concerned about Indiana? I mean, Michigan _should_ beat them, but the Hoosiers have had some big wins already this season. I hope not, but this thread could be premature.
  12. Broke his leg too....even though I think JoePa should give it up and retire, you gotta admire the fact that he didn't even want to leave with a broken leg.
  13. Didn't one of the british princes wear a hitler costume last year?
  14. DJ Gallo was quick to call out Weis: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=gallo/061025 Honestly, complaining about the polls is the most childish, classless thing Weiss could do. He should be thinking about preparing his team to win the games they are "supposed" to win (which is basically all of them against their mickey mouse schedule). He just has to face the music....his team isn't as good as the media built them up to be before the season.
  15. I think they are pretty funny. Way, way better than the Chevy commercials with "this is our country". That song is driving me freakin nuts, and its because those commercials are on every 5 minutes.
  16. Geno's and Pat's are right next to each other. I'm not going to recommend one or the other. I'm going to recommend that you be a man, and eat at both, one right after the other. Then you'll know for sure. Just make sure to have several beers beforehand.
  17. The place wasn't electric at all. They cheered a lot whenever they showed tigers players on the jumbotron...but it was a boring, not very loud game.
  18. Except wasn't it him who took the roughing the passer penalty that essentially lost us the game?
  19. I'm going as well, but I don't think we will be tailgating....most likely just heading to a bar before the game, as I haven't heard of any bills tailgating going on. Also going to the Sabres game on Friday, but I'm not sure what the plan with that involves. My girlfriend is from detroit, so she is the tour guide this weekend.
  20. I'm going with my girlfriend and her dad, both lions fans. I'm not exactly sure if we are going to get down there early for pre-gaming or not, but yeah, it sounds like the tailgating might be at a bar.
  21. Eh, if you wear your jersey into another team's house, you had better be able to take some verbal abuse. I do it all the time, and get yelled at all the time. I generally joke with the people around me and talk football with them too. If it gets physical, thats a different story and completely unacceptable.
  22. I'm sure the league will review this play, and point out to the Bills and all referees whether or not it was called correctly on the field. If it wasn't, then the Bills have to do nothing, and the referees will know how to call it properly next week.
  23. Not saying she is bad....but pretty far away from "hottest girl ever"
  24. Count me in the very-encouraged-by-this-game camp. The interception I blame on the play call...I said right before that play, "you had better run it again." The jets were waiting for that play. On the fumbles....yeah, sucks, but I think its good for building experience. One of them was a missed block by McGahee. I said before the season and I still say it, 8-8 is a successful year for us. I can wait one more year for the playoffs, and I feel like by next year we'll be able to get rid of the mistakes and be real contenders. JP has impressed me so far this year, and I think he is going to be our QB for a long time.
  25. Having listened to most of the game for the last two weeks on Sirius, I gotta say that I like Mark Kelso as the color man. His analysis is pretty technical, and while I don't follow all of it, I get the feeling he knows a lot more about football than, well, pretty much anyone who covers games on TV nationally. For some reason, I think Murph works better with him than AVP...its hard to explain, but this year the radio broadcasts just sound better.
