  1. How long is the warranty on the refurb? The balance of your original warranty or another year?
  2. Wasn't that great? Isn't a cult classic? How old are you? PCU is second only to Animal House in the college-comedy genre. How can you think throwing meat on a vegetarian protest isn't funny?
  3. I thought this was pretty common knowledge.... Back when I was in high school (not all that long ago, late 90's), we used to go there all the time for lunch. Their parking lot was full of expensive cars, they were the "delivery vehicles". It always felt like a perfectly safe place to park and go eat, even though the neighborhood had seen better days. I went back there for the first time since then this past Sunday night, and it seems to have gone downhill. The food was still great and the inside hasn't changed, but the shady characters have really taken over.....the place is being enveloped in the west-side blight around it. I just grabbed my food for pickup, but I think I'll be ordering delivery from now on.
  4. I wouldn't really put too much stock in what people say on Dice or any other large job site....remember, the people there are all looking for jobs too, the ones who have jobs probably don't spend much time posting. The problem with IT jobs is there are a ton of people trying to get them, but there is an absolutely enormous gap between people who have real talent and those who fill their resumes with all the right buzzwords. If somebody says "i've been looking for 4 years and been on 84 interviews, and I still don't have a job!"....its because they don't have the skills they think they have. I interview programmers on almost a daily basis, and I'd have a hard time believing that in any other industry there is such a large difference between qualified and unqualified people. So, I think if you have real skills and real soft-skills, there will never be a shortage of work in IT. That should go double if you have clearance, because they can't outsource those jobs to other countries. The real key is getting your resume through the HR-android filter (which those people on Dice have probably mastered)...once you talk to a real technical person, you'll be in good shape if you know what you are doing.
  5. Are you sure about that? A friend of mine's mom always talks about hanging out there in her younger years, and how they didn't have a women's bathroom. Maybe that was how they "disallowed" women.... Anyway, the first time I went there, this big group was sitting at the table next to us, eating and getting pretty toasted. Then, all of a sudden, the giant wooden table went flying (mostly on us), and these two dudes were brawling. Now, I'm sure thats not unusual at most bars, but at McSorley's, the dude who won the fight got to stay, and the one who lost got booted.
  6. I can't listen to the clip at work, but is he the guy who says crap like "Can't fry a chicken any hotter than that?" instead of saying "He scores!"? I never got that guy....its like he was trying to steal the thunder from the goal with a doofy saying. Now, Rick says things about the players who score, but at least you absolutely know when the Sabres score a goal listening to Rick. I think the pitt guy is a pretty good announcer otherwise, I could just do without his completely nonsensical remarks when they score.
  7. A while back when I lived in CT, I had a set of snow tires for a car that I sold. The tires were still in great shape, and they were mounted on steel wheels. So I was trying to sell them for a long time, a few people were interested but they didn't fit on their cars. Now, demand for snow tires in southwestern CT isn't particularly high...people just tend to crash when it snows Anyway, I was asking for like $100 obo (original retail with the wheels was like $500), and had essentially no interest. So, I finally had to just get rid of these things, so I threw the ad on the Free section of Craigslist. I had between 20 and 30 emails in less than 5 minutes, and the flood continued for days (even when I removed the ad). The person who came first to get the tires was exactly the kind of person who would have shown up at this poor dude's house and taken everything...he was saying "you sure you don't have anything else to give away?" Something really clicks in people's minds when they see "free", they think they have to have whatever this item is.
  8. ?? Thanks for making my point for me. I'm saying with all the cash I'd save on my house in Buffalo, I'd cover the difference between what you expect to make when your house value doubles and I've thrown away because my house didn't double.
  9. I am just noting that you are assuming your house is your only investment, and when you spend that much $$ on a house.....it probably is. And since I've just recently moved back to Buffalo from the NYC burbs, (and I'm a "non-management senior staff" software developer), I'm quite familiar with compensation in the Buffalo area. It is definitely less, but not anywhere near the disparity in your above housing-payment calculations.
  10. Your logic is somewhat flawed....you are assuming that real estate is your only investment, and also that the price of your house in DC is going to double in 10 years....which while that may have happened in the last 10 years, historically speaking thats not very likely. Now, better paying jobs aside (they aren't all better paying down there, but most probably are) assume you took the same amount of money in both places. If you put 10% down...$25k in Buffalo, $60k in DC. If you took that extra $35k and put it into equities, and added your extra $1450/month you saved on your mortgage, then after 10 years you'd pretty much cover the difference in your calculation above. Plus, you would be much, much more diversified...if housing prices crashed in your area, you could be in some trouble, because all of your net worth is tied up in your house. The money you have in the market (assuming you are long on everything) can't ever go below what you put into it.
  11. This article is on the Business First site today: http://buffalo.bizjournals.com/buffalo/sto...6331200^1607587 Maybe that will answer some of your questions, although it focuses on "median" prices and salaries. I recently moved back to Buffalo from the NYC area. I was really excited about it and we'll see where it goes in the future. I'm not going to get into it right now, but in a few short months I have learned exactly why people leave the region. Suffice to say it has nothing to do with property taxes or the weather.
  12. The Four Seasons in Niagara Falls is still open, I believe. Not sure how much the movies there are nowadays, but it was always the cheap place. Its on Military Road, behind one of the strip malls, sorry, I don't remember which one.
  13. I saw it back in the beginning with the original cast...David Hyde Pierce, Hank Azaria, Tim Curry, and Sara Ramirez. It was absolutely hilarious, I loved it. Oh, and I _hate_ musicals, so for me to love it is really saying something. Don't miss it if its in your town, the laughs start before the play even starts.
  14. It doesn't work....
  15. I'm sorry, but I don't understand why you guys didn't like the Connectile Dysfunction ad. The entire room was rolling at the party I was at. That and the rock paper scissors ads were the best.
  16. Colts N0 - Bears N3 Or, Colts N1 - Bears N3 Or, Colts N9 - Bears N4.
  17. Its _your_ birthday and she is making you stay home???!?!?? Dude, it goes like this... "Honey, what do you want for your birthday?" "Oh, nothing, I just want to go see the sabres game!" Its _your_ day, not hers. Oh yeah, happy birthday!
  18. Dogs or cats or people can lay down and stand up quite a bit easier than a horse can. I don't know that horses can even eat laying down. They are big animals, and can't really stand on 3 legs.
  19. A different kind of cold? Yer damn right 32F is a "different kind of cold" than -14F!
  20. What were Losman's numbers beyond 10 yards?
  21. Yeah, it basically sucked, was really poorly done. They didn't even seem to know what the score was at the end.
  22. What nobody seemed to talk about was the awful hold on I believe Freeny before brady even threw the ball. The o-lineman ripped his freakin helmet off. Should have been a 10 yard penalty.
  23. Wow. And they got mad at us for some old guy who a mob of bills fans caused him to break his hands Crap like this happens at all football games. The difference is in how the team responds.
  24. I heard a stat that the Laffs lead the league by a huge margin in 5 on 3's. Can anybody verify that? It wouldn't surprise me in the least. These jokers are the freakin Yankees of the NHL.
  25. I use electric. I kinda have a baby face, so my "5 o'clock shadow" is more like 5 the next morning. But, I think most people try electric and don't like it, so they give up right away. You _need_ to use the electric every day for at least a month for your face to get used to it. Once you do, then you'll be happy, and its way less messy. I use this stuff after shaving: http://www.neutrogena.com/men/MenDetails_1...roductLineID=10 Give it a shot.
