No, it's not grueling to watch. And forgive me but part of my job is as a teacher.

Jim Kelly on the all time passing list
Sierra Foothills replied to Marlton Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Allen will knock Kelly to #2 statistically. I think people need to tap the brakes a bit until Allen can deliver at least one Super Bowl appearance. It was posited that Kelly took a lot more punishment than QBs of today. I think it's reasonable to say that if Kelly had the same protections as today's QBs he almost certainly would have added a couple seasons on the back end of his career. Again statistically that is more than likely. As far as greatness, let's see if Allen gets us to ONE Super Bowl. Then we can talk about it. Kelly was 16-8 heads up against Marino, 3-0 in the playoffs. BTW Kelly was 4-2 against Elway. No one would argue which player was more talented but those who put Marino ahead of Kelly as a QB have very little basis for that position IMO. Probably I'm being harsh but I feel like half the people posting in this topic are too young to have watched Kelly play and the other half are too old to have a clear memory of his career. I love Josh Allen as much as anyone but the short memory and lack of respect for Jim Kelly's career makes me a bit sad. There's a ton of recency bias at work here. -

Bills’ Analytics Department Highly-Ranked
Sierra Foothills replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall
Coincidentally Bills HOF Coach Marv Levy is a George Allen protege and like Allen was a Head Coach in college and all three pro leagues. In college he was head coach at New Mexico, Cal, and William and Mary. In the pros Levy was head coach for the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, the CFL's Montreal Alouettes, and the USFL's Chicago Blitz before getting the head job in Buffalo in 1986. -
Thank you. It's always a victory when someone actually knows which homophone to use. It gives one hope. On the other hand... Do you believe Lewan's claims that players pay PFF $50K? Are you familiar with the common practice of media outlets "picking up" stories from other media outlets and appropriating them for their own gain? Do you consider this a "juicy" story that other outlets would pick up and run with to increase traffic to their sites? Do you think a self-proclaimed "shyt disturber" like Mike Florio at PFT would normally latch onto this story and either prove or debunk it? Why do you think zero established, credible media outlets have touched this story? Don't you think that it's likely that we would have corroboration from some of the thousands of NFL players if Lewan's allegations were true? Where did Lewan make his allegations? Was it from a serious, hard news outlet? A blogcast? An Instagram post?

Josh Allen pukes before every game.
Sierra Foothills replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Actually this is the anecdote I was thinking of: "Like Bill Russell before him, teammates became anxious if Kelly didn't throw up before the game, and Kelly once said of his own pre-game vomiting, “We were so superstitious that my offensive line would not leave the locker room until I threw up … But the times I didn't think I needed to or it wasn't one of those games where I was so pumped up - like if we had [already] clinched - those games the offensive line wouldn't leave. So I went in there and pretended, just to keep those guys happy." -

This was the first thing that came to mind. There was a funny story about it too I think. -
There are plenty of NFL QBs that don't justify a spot on an NFL roster. Kaepernick took a controversial and unpopular stand and as a result he's a pariah. If a team signs him there will be intense media scrutiny and the teams don't want to engage that kind of distraction. That's why he's not in the league.

It's fine that he's thick... but does he have pretty balls? And even if he does, that's only part of the package.
-
He missed his calling as a golf pro.

Yeah, Josh is farmer strong and he definitely has a "meat and potatoes build."

My biggest weakness? Porn. No, chocolate. No... porn. Here's a question Scott. Name the O-lines that you think are better than the Bills.

NFL looking at ways to improve the Pro Bowl
Sierra Foothills replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall
You mean kind of like Survivor? Excuse me but would you happen to know what "sciard" means? It really gets huge ratings? That raises the question WTF is watching because what they do on that field makes a mockery of football. -
The distinction I refer to also has to do with the differences in the sports, injury risk, catastrophic injury risk, length of career, etc.

Or, the system sucks and will evolve into something better. On a related note, I don't view NFL players the same way I view MLB or NBA players. It's a very different deal all around for various reasons. Some people fail to understand this distinction.

Vince Ferragamo threw a pretty ball too. If you repeat something enough times... Crazy-ass coincidence that Mac, Zack, and Tua are all in the best shape of their lives isn't it? This summer marks my 3rd year of hang gliding lessons... You seem to worry a lot. Is that a new word that the cool kids are using? Excuse me but do you happen to know what sciard means? Funny, I'm not feeling any fear... anyone?

I recall Bills games from 1968 so I'm kind of old... at least according to my birth certificate. As such I'm not a big fan of the quick passage of time meaning I'm not in a big hurry for Bills-Rams to get here. I'd rather live the next 3+ months of my life than fast forward past it. Every day good or bad is a blessing to savor. That said, I do have the date (9/8/22) circled on my calendar and will be more than ready when another Bills season kicks off that evening. On a related thought, virtually all my sports fandom has boiled down to just the Bills... I don't follow MLB, NHL, or NBA anymore except for occasionally checking scores and standings and reading the odd story. But 95% of my sports fandom revolves around the Bills and the NFL which is a big change from when I was a kid. Now in contrast to before, I'm too busy living my own life to care much about entertainment... except when it comes to the Bills.

I worked as an arborist for 10 years and have worked construction for most of my working life... over 30 years. Not that they're all the same build but farm boys have a strength you get from working long hours of physical labor from a young age. They also develop a strong sense of leverages and biomechanics. Josh is definitely farmer strong.

Dwayne Haskins killed [Edit: struck by vehicle]
Sierra Foothills replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I closed many a bar in my time in Buffalo. Sometimes the night would end at a Perkins Pancake House or the Towne Restaurant. Sometimes at Panos. I remember emptying my pockets on the night stand before passing out in bed. There would be something like 3 crumpled up singles and 37 cents in change. Two guys I use to run with a lot are gone... one suicide and one murdered. I had another friend who fell down the stairs at Molly's Pub (or was it Merlin's?), broke his neck and died. Not sure why I was spared. I'm grateful to still be here. -
So do the other players not in attendance have a better or a worse reason to not participate than Poyer? That was my thought too. We're all super excited about Von Miller being a Bill but saying he's #1 in our hearts is far from accurate. It was a lazy attempt at turning a phrase.
