  1. No reason to give up on Manuel yet. That decision comes at least a year or two or three down the road. however, since QB is the most important position on the field, I really hope the Bills find somebody that can compete with him either through the draft or FA. If they don't and Manuel doesn't pan out Marrone might be another coach that gets replaced in year 3 or 4.
  2. The Bills should definitely be drafting a QB in rounds 1-3. At best it's 50-50 whether he will be the answer at QB. With QB being the most important position on the field, they need to find another one to hedge their bet on Manuel. To trade up would be foolish unless they are absolutely sure the player will be the next Manning, Brady, etc. This team has too many needs to trade additional picks to get to first overall. The overall talent level still isn't good enough too make the playoffs on its own. With another good draft and another good year in free agency, they might sneak in if one or two teams have bad years. Either through the draft or free agency the Bills need to find another QB to compete with Manuel. If not and Manuel doesn't become at least serviceable, Marrone won't be here beyond year 4.
  3. My EJMCL is somewhere below 50% due to his injuries leading to not enough games played to really decide. Given that if I'm the coach I want to pick a QB in the 1st or 2nd round and a big receiver on the other round. I'd also want at least one OL in FA.
  4. Flutie was nothing more than a average QB who was able to do some things that defenses weren't expecting. However, Flutie's contributions to the team went beyond the field, he played a large role in helping to sell the boxes and suites during those two seasons. Had that been left to Johnson the Bills may not have been able to sell them and it is quite possible the Bills would have been many steps closer to moving out of Buffalo. He definitely contributed to saving the franchise during that time period. Flutie was dynamic on and off the field whether you liked him or not. Johnson was a zero. One of the worst interviews, and that is saying alot for foot ball players, was with Rob Johnson. Between him eating his dinner as he was talking and absolute lack of a personality it was very, very painful.
  5. Clunkers like yesterday happen to teams that are learning like the bills. A rookie QB being the biggest contributor but also inexperience throughout the team in several positions. This team needs to find the franchise QB, Manuel or somebody else, and another good draft/free agency or two before it is ready to really contend on a weekly basis. But it is closer than it was last year.
  6. It was kind of windy today. Tends to throw the big DEs off on their line to the QB. Some react better than others.
  7. I'm not sure Manziel is the guy. but if there is a QB when our turn is up that would have a better chance of being a "franchise" QB than Manuel, I would definitely draft him. Right now I would say it is 50/50 whether Manuel will be a "franchise" QB. But if he doesn't improve significantly the rest of the season, the Bills should be drafting another "franchise" QB. Let them fight it out over the next 2 to 3 years and hopefully one of them becomes the "franchise" QB.
  8. Surviving the game without an injury would be a start for any Bills QB. Anything beyond that would be a bonus.
  9. Just tuned in to the "Prekick Show". That has to be the worst group of announcers ever. They might all be rejects from other shows that wound up here. Missing that show may have saved me a headache.
  10. I to would like to hear what Tim Russert had to say about the Bills and also about our current political climate. Rest assured it would have been fair to all sides and straight to the point. Unlike the two guys that took his place.
  11. Ralph Wilson Lou Saban OJ (or Jim Kelly) Bruce Smith
  12. In addition to all the other reasons listed, Why would you draft a second QB in a draft that is by all accounts a weak draft for QBs? We have Kolb, Jackson and the rook. If none of them pan out this year, next year take another QB in a draft that is supposed to be a good QB class. Use the draft pick for a second QB on another position of need. Whether that should have been a dimunitive receiver or a second SS was debatable.
  13. I'm watching ESPN and NFL network on my PC. NFL network is as much as 30 seconds behind ESPN. NFL Network keeps cutting to commercial, ESPN has no commercials. But they did just show the details of the trade and ESPN hasn't yet.
  14. But at least Johnson gave me one on the best laughs ever watching a Bills game when he got blown up by the punt returner on a fake punt the Bills executed. Absolutely hilarious.
  15. I'm fine with signing second tier free agents that might excel in a different situation. The Bills have a ton of holes to fill and even more positions that need to be upgraded. I'm just a little bit puzzled with the lack of activity. Maybe behind the scenes the wheels are turning furiously but given that it is the Bills, I have my doubts. Maybe the Bills just are not a player this year, they've gone into stealth mode and have issued a gag order to all employees or the entire organization was so consumed by the Geno Smith pro day that they couldn't participate in free agency. On the plus side, if they don't sign anybody else we'll almost certainly be assured of drafting in the top 1 or 2 next year. Which wouldn't be all bad.
  16. I hope the Bills aren't attempting to build a team to win to coincide with a new stadium! It will be at least another 10 years before any chance at a new stadium!
  17. Beyonce is what passes for entertainment. A hot babe, lip syncing an auto tuned recording. About 3 minutes into her show I fell asleep. Maybe she can sing maybe she can't depends on who is listening. Alicia Keys didn't come off as bad as I thought she might. I like to hear the Anthem sung as it was written. Straight up and true to the original notes with no warbling. Find someone who can do that and they'll go down in history as one of the best ever. 99% of today's popular singers just don't have the pipes to reach the range. So they change it. They have no choice.
  18. Once again the performer thinks they are greater than the anthem. Just sing the song the way it was written. do it well and you go down in history as one of the best.
  19. He was brought in because we couldn't rush the passer and stop the run and you're giving him a pass on that? He is closer to Walt Patulski than even Phil Hansen and especially Bruce Smith. He may work out just fine, but so far nothing he has done indicates he will.
  20. 5-11. given the talent they have over achieved this year getting off to 5-2. Getting 6 wins for this group of players is good. Given the contributions of this past draft class, another good draft class in 2012 and a couple of decent free agents playoffs are a possibility next year, but should be likely in 2013. Absolutely need to find a franchise QB to learn next year and take over in 2013.
  21. It looks like the Bills will be just bad enough to not make the playoffs and just good enough to not get the first pick in the draft. Another waste of a season.
  22. Don't like Newton at all. Big risk, and I don't believe he will become the next manning or brady. Not worth it. I really like Ponder at #34 as long as the Nix/Gailey think he can be the next Kelly. If they could trade down and get Mallet mid first round, that would work as well. Who cares if the guy can add 2+2 and get 5. Can he read a defense and can he play football. Very few QBs, if any, present as the sharpest tack in the box except on the field. As Nix has stated right now would be a great time to draft a QB to groom over the next 1 to 2 years. Fitz has proven he can be serviceable and he might even get better. If they can get a QB outside of #3 that can be better I think they should.
  23. I posted "You'll never get God past the ACLU" to which it appears you've taken exception to. In fact the ACLU opposed adding "under God" to the pledge and making "In God we Trust" our national motto in 1954 and 1956 respectively. Try googleing ACLU and "The Pledge of Allegiance" or ACLU and "In God we Trust" and you will get some more recent examples of the ACLU's position on these topics. I have to say you are correct though. The ACLU has opposed and failed to prevent the use of God in the national motto and the pledge. Therefore it might be possible to get America the beautiful appointed as the national anthem in spite of the objections of the ACLU. Have a nice walk.
  24. I'm not sure what Ray Charles performing America the Beautiful has to do with my point. The point is that, at this point in time, America the Beautiful will never be the "sanctioned" anthem of the US due to the fact that it contains the word god in it. The ACLU and, if it makes you feel better you can throw several other organizations in with it, would never let it be approved because in today's twisted logic on the meaning of the separation of church and state the government could never pass a resolution sanctioning America as the national anthem because it has the word god (aka religion) in it. Lawsuit after lawsuit would be brought to prevent that from happening. I wasn't making a statement as to whether it was a liberal or conservative point of view but it is their point of view. I'm also not sure what the abortion debate has to do with it either.
