  1. Ok I guess. Too much improvisation for my taste but completely appropriate given the venue. If you want to hear God Bless America in all its glory. Try a version by Kate Smith in her prime. No one has done it better.
  2. First of all I can't sing a note on key and unlike most pop stars I don't pretend that I can. But I can read music and the song that Aguilera sang last night does not resemble the Star Spangled Banner. The addition of her own convulsive inflections are just not there nor should they be. There are two reasons for this. 1) She does not have the vocal talent to sing the relatively demanding song. She is a POP singer and her own vocals never hit the human ear. They are heavily processed to reduce the abnormalities of her voice and make them sound the same every time. The talent is of the engineers that made the equipment. 2) She made the performance about her and not about the patriotic experience of performing the National Anthem at one of the country's biggest sporting event of the year. As to America the Beautiful for the national anthem. You'll never get God past the ACLU besides the song is more a celebration of the land than the American spirit. Try My Country tis of Thee, which was the defacto anthem until the politicians got involved and appointed the Star Spangled Banner the anthem. IMO a better representative of what makes the US and Americans unique. By the way. Whitney Houston couldn't read music either. She was better at adding her own inflections so they weren't quite so obnoxious. And when she did deviate she didn't change half an octave at a time, she changed a note or two. Best idea i've heard was to bring in a chorus from the military service to perform. My own idea would be to hold auditions in the local area to find someone to sing it.
  3. I would stick with Nix and Gailey for now. So far I think they are on the right track, although the spiller pick does make me wonder some, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't believe that this team makes the playoffs no matter who is the coach with the current players. It will take 2 or 3 more years to get a core of players to have a shot at the playoffs. If they don't make the playoffs in 3 years or less, dump 'em as they can't get it done. Until then I let them try.
  4. It doesn't matter who leaves on this team. It only matters who the bills bring in to replace them. If Poz leaves and the Bills bring in someone better, see ya! With so little actual NFL caliber talent on the team one player, future all pro or not, isn't going to matter. The Bills need 15 or 20 new players to be competitive.
  5. I don't know if it can all be attributed to Fitz replacing Trent but so far they look a lot better. I don't think they have any chance of winning the game and they will probably get blown out if they can't generate some pass rush, but at least the offense looks better.
  6. The more I see Chan Gailey the more I like him. Great stuff. Obviously, it remains to be seen how much success he has here, but he certainly has gotten off on the right foot. He seems to have the right attitude to get things turned around here. The fans have the right to heckel I suppose, but the team doesn't have to like it.
  7. Do you really think our playoff hopes will last that long? I would like to see the backup QB be someone with many years of exp who could tutor TE and Brohm. Fitz isn't that guy. You'd have the same probability of winning with Fitz or an exp backup but would have the years of exp that Fitz doesn't have.
  8. Brohm is the only unknown. Fitz and Edwards would need to have a massive resurrection for any one to believe that we haven't already seen their best. No one has seen Brohm play significant time under fire. He go this feet wet now and a little experience and may just be able to show what talent he has. It's either Brohm or hope for the #1 overall pick next year. Anything Edwards and Fitz do only prolongs the agony.
  9. Brohm is really the only unknown on the roster. Fitz probably won't get any better but makes a pretty good backup. If he plays 2-3 games a year, he has a chance to win them. Any more than that and the team is in trouble. TE - he is what he is and probably won't get significantly better. Better coaching may make him slightly better but doesn't seem to have the presence to consistently lead. If the team around him is great, he'll be good. He probably won't lift the team out of the depths. Brohm appears to have all the tools and was able to apply them in college. In the NFL he is still an unknown but has improved each year. The game last year doesn't count. Very poor team and no time to learn the scheme and he did a few things well. I'm very interested to see what he can do with more time to learn and more coaching.
  10. Finally a reliable source! I've been waiting for the prognostications of the cab driver.
  11. Adding an experienced QB would be a good move. Then draft a QB of the future and let him learn. Other than that though I disagree with you that a few FA can improve this team enough to get to the playoffs. And let's remember the goal isn't to get to the playoffs, it is the SB. The talent level on this team is so poor that I'm not sure there are any true keepers. I would like to see them blow it all up and build for the SB in 4 or 5 years instead of building to make the playoffs next year. The overall goal has to be long term instead of short term. The short term goals are a means to an end. By trying to supplement with FA just to get good enough to make the playoffs, which I dont' think is possible, is the wrong way to go. That is why the Bills haven't made the playoffs in 10 years.
  12. At least 4 and most likely more. 2 to get enough players to make the playoffs. Lose in 1st round in year 2. 2 more to get as far as the AFC championship and lose. Possibly poised for the SB in 5th year. There just isn't enough quality playoff talent on the roster for it to be sooner.
  13. I think he blew it on the coordinators. Granted the OC position is responsible only for coffee and that it doesn't matter too much who that is. For the DC I really expected them to find someone who has a lot of or really good (as in winning and notoriety as a good DC) DC since the HC is an offensive mind. They just turned the defense over to a guy with 1.5 years of exp. running his own show. Not what I thought we needed given who the HC is. The rest of the staff appears to be a good solid staff.
  14. Absolutely not!!!!!!!! We have way too many holes to fill to be competitive to put that kind of money into one player any more. We would be much better off to improve 2 positions for that money.
  15. He will probably have his usual game. 1 tackle at or behind the line of scrimmage. 14 tackles 5 to 10 yards downfield.
  16. I'm not too sure about Nix, but if Tom Landry is available and willing sign him up!! He's made the playoffs more than once, he's won a super bowl and had some pretty decent teams IIRC.
  17. The Bills are right where they should be. They've used Shanahan to their best advantage even if he doesn't sign. Everyone knows they have an opening, the parameters around a potential offer have been set, they've shown they are willing to discuss all aspects of the opening. By pursuing Shanahan they've shown the big 5 or 6 that they are willing to negotiate should the time come. You can't make the top 5 or 6 come to you but you can try to entice them which is just what the Bills have done. I'd be concerned if Shanahan or any of the other big names signed now. Why aren't they waiting to see what else is out there. It also means that the Bills wouldn't have explored their options with those GM/coaches that are under contract. Last I knew the Bills had no obligation to explain to anyone other than Ralph where they are in the process. If the info does "leak" out, it means the Bills have a problem employee inside the org.
  18. What we know after the last 3 games is 1.) Perry Fewell is not the answer as HC. The team played 2 games better but that was to be expected when the HC is changed in season. They have reverted to their ways. 2.) The Bills lack of talent is just as great as it was before. There are not more than a handful of players that should be kept as starters going forward, especially if they are not rookies. There are several players that may make good backups but the starter material is very thin. 3.) Fitzpatrick is not the long term answer at QB. He's better than TE as he will take a chance but he doesn't do the routine stuff well enough and can't do the take a chance stuff enough of the time. 4.) We need a football guy as GM to hire the HC, personnel people and blow this team up and start over. Nothing has changed since Jauron was canned.
  19. No taurus, but Russ received consent from WGR to give him 1st draft position in the next Actor draft on WGR.
  20. Buffalo signs HC - Jim Haslett DC - Darryl Talley OC - Frank Reich OL - Ruben Brown DL - Fred Smerlas etc etc etc etc
  21. If it wasn't evident before it has to be now. This team is terrible. Edwards and Fitzpatrick have no future as anything more than backups. Nobody on this team should be untouchable for next year. The talent here is grossly subpar. There are no keepers. it is difficult to cut, waive, trade, release an entire team but it should happen with the Bills. However, unless the FO is redone as well there is no hope of making the playoffs for the foreseeable future. The FO is responsible for the current crop of coaches and players. What makes anyone think they can handle rebuilding this poor team
  22. Decline a 3rd and 16 to let them attempt a 51 yard FG. That has got to be one of the dumbest all time decisions. That is indefensible on the part of Jauron. Unbelievable. Ralph if you have any sanity do not let this team back on the plane home. Make em walk.
  23. I saw this last night. It is quite funny. However, I think they could have done a better job by getting some of Levy's other sound bites in. How do you do Levy sound bites without getting "Over officious jerk" in?
  24. Wow! It's amazing that as bad as the Bills are they would still only pick 11th at this point! There are 10 teams that have performed worse up to this point. That is hard to believe!
  25. I listen to these 2 buffoons every night on the drive home, unfortunately they are the only sports talk show I can get on the radio. They've been pumping the "Actor" draft for several days. I guess if you call it a draft it qualifies for sports talk. I just wish another station would produce a sports talk radio show in the area as these two guys are just awful. I still think they contribute to road rage as I take my finger gun and shoot the radio several times during the week when I have them on. I don't think Schopp the dope could take Ernest. Ernest has him beat on toughness and in smarts from his hilly billy upbringing.
