  1. Depends. If their top candidate goes to the superbowl or is from Oregon or Ohio St., it's going to be awhile before the Bills can hire. If their top candidate's team has finished playing, they can hire anytime.
  2. Yep. Looks like things are starting to proceed. Whaley should be in charge of the hunt. Looks like Schwartz will also be in the mix.
  3. This whole idea that Pegula should be front and center providing very detailed information about the Bills ongoing plan to the media and fans is just absolutely ludicrous. There is absolutely no logical reason for him to do that and if he did it would give the competition an insight into what they are doing. I sure hope he doesn't. The silence is good. Keep your plan to yourself and execute it masterfully.
  4. We went from Ralph is cheap to Terry is incompetent at light speed.
  5. If they hire Schwartz before interviewing other candidates, it would be a knee jerk reaction. My hope is that they perform a systematic search for the next coach. Schwartz maybe the best candidate available for numerous reasons or he may be the next Marrone. I'm thinking he's closer to Marrone than to the best candidate. I just hope they find out for sure.
  6. Hiring Schwartz right away would be a knee jerk reaction. Marrone leaving isn't the end of the world. As of now we don't know what really went on. The details will emerge over the next several days. My hope is that Pegula leads over the next couple of weeks or so and the Bills proceed as if they just bought the team and fired the coach. Look for a Football Czar to act as a consultant and get him on board. Compile a list of HC candidates and start interviewing. Complete the interviews in the next few weeks, depending on if any candidates are in the playoffs or on bowl teams. Pick the best one and let's move forward. What I hope they don't do is read the internet, listen to all the sports media buffoons and panic. This should play out the same as if they had fired Marrone.
  7. It's kind of interesting to read all of the BS that passes for "news". The Bills organization will be the whipping boy for the next several weeks I'm guessing. For some reason the national media has chosen to fluff Marrone on this. Strap in, if the first 24 hours are any indication it's going to be a fun ride!
  8. Shocked to say the least. When someone decides to leave make sure to close the door fast enough that they can't change their mind. It's not about what the Bills lost, it's about what they get to do now and that is to pick a better coach. We'll just see if they do. What a year for the Bills. This is exciting stuff! Can't wait to see how all the changes at One Bills Drive take shape!
  9. What the Sabres lack is top line talent in the prospect pool. With the lack of current talent and with the chance to pick the next Crosby, tanking is the most logical course.
  10. I wouldn't mind seeing Polian come back in some advisory capacity but not as GM. Shift Brandon back to the business/marketing side and let Polian Whaley Marrone run the football side. Another year to see what happens with the QB and OL situation and if the Bills make the playoffs. If they don't make the playoffs next year, Polian should clean house and start over.
  11. Ever watch a Bellichick presser? I'm not sure it is a good idea to fire a coach because of the way he acts or doesn't act in a presser.
  12. The Bills should be able to fix the OL this off season. Either through FA, improvement of last years draftees or someone from this years draft. I would prefer through FA but just as long as it is fixed. I'm not sure who they get for QB this offseason. They'll need to hit lightning in a bottle or we may be looking at year 16 without playoffs if EJ and Tuel are the best options even if the OL is fixed.
  13. What has EJ done that leads his supporters to believe he can be an NFL QB? No pocket presence, can't read defenses more than half the field at a time, appeared to be afraid to run (maybe his best asset) this year (another Trent?), and worst of all highly inaccurate. Outside of reading defenses the rest of those may not be able to be learned/unlearned. I don't think the Bills cut him outright but I can't see them going into next season as anything other than the backup and hopefully as only the developmental backup. Is he still eligible for the practice squad?
  14. Schopp the dope's major problem with the press conference is that Marrone doesn't talk the way Schopp would like him to. Secondary to that was what Whaley and Marrone said or didn't say. It's a sports franchise news conference what do you expect? Ever hear Bellichik, or Ryan or any other coach's press conference? Why should they say anything of substance? Schopp the dope did not accurately reflect what they did say during his monologe after the press conference. It was one of the worst broadcasts I've heard them do and that is saying something. If there was any other Buffalo sports station available during my drive home I would listen to it but so far I haven't been able to find one. We're stuck with the blithering and the idiot.
  15. At best EJ should be the third string, developmental QB on the team next year. If the Bills don't find option 1 & 1A through FA and/or the draft the Bills are probably looking at a 16th straight year out of the playoffs. EJs performance would have to do a complete 180 in order for him to even be competent as an NFL QB. He just hasn't shown the skills or abilities to lead one to believe that he can be an NFL QB. Given Orton's retirement I'm fairly certain the Bills won't cut him and he'll have a chance to win the job next season but the Bills simply have to come up with two QBs that are way ahead of where Manuel is if they hope to compete for a playoff spot.
  16. The Bills no longer have any viable NFL QBs on the roster. Orton would've been serviceable as a backup. Now the Bills have to find a starter and a backup. The cupboard is bare.
  17. Purely conjecture from Bob Matthews on WHAM just now, Marrone get's offer from one of the teams with open head coaching positions in the next 3 days and is able to take it. Could he and would he? Again, Matthews said it was pure conjecture on his part and that if he was offered the San Fran job Marrone should take it. Just thought it was interesting discussion.
  18. At this point Beckham and this years first > Watkins and no first this year. This year's first could have been used in multiple ways to get a better QB. It will take a couple of years to really tell if Watkins was worth it, but at this point he certainly wasn't. Not because he isn't a good player but because of the many needs the Bills have.
  19. I think Woods is serviceable if they replace the guards. The guards are so poor their play affected Glenn and Woods as they tried to cover for them. If I'm the Bills, I find replacements for both guard positions and a good backup to play center and guard and see what happens next year. It's be tough to replace 2 guards and center in one offseason.
  20. Does anyone know what the real reason is that Williams fell out of favor? Sure seems like they could use him at times.
  21. Because even with all of those warts you just listed they might be better than the Orton and most of them are definitely better than Manuel.
  22. How does a coach not know one of the starters is not playing?!? I just don't get it. A good coach just knows who is on the field and who isn't at all times. He doesn't count the players every play. He just knows. If I was the owner (and yes I know I'm not :-), this would kind of be the last straw and he would be gone after the season. This shows that he is not able to manage a game to the level that is required to win. Cut ties with him now and move on. I'd take my chances with someone else.
  23. Sheeesh! I didn't realize all hope was lost for the Bills! I actually thought with the new owners and the highly likely possibility that they bring in a football person to review the situation that we had a chance of getting better. I'm going outside to shovel snow even though I don't have any.
  24. The question is, was Watkins worth a 1st and a fourth more than Evans or Beckham. Will the Bills be better with Watkins or with Evans/Beckham and another 1st rounder in the fold. Right now the answer is no and the trade was a mistake. However one season of results is not enough to really judge. My own opinion is that the trade was a mistake. That trade is only made when you have a QB in place. The Bills didn't, don't and probably won't have for the next 2-3 years. The trade may have set the Bills back 2-4 years in reaching the playoffs and very likely could cost Whaley and Marrone their jobs. Assuming Whaley still has a job it depends on what Whaley does next in attempting to procure a QB that has the possibility of being at least slightly above average during the off season. Orton and Manuel don't seem to be that QB.
  25. So with virtually no chance at the playoffs this year we are reduced to hoping for some draftee to be available at our 2nd round pick. And with no first round pick we can't even root for a high draft pick. Missing the playoffs, with no high draft pick, Ouch. Another wasted year for the Bills.
