Yes. Like Dareus, but not Dareus.

[Vague Title]Take this for what it's worth.

No way could I give up 3 firsts, a second in 2019, and another pick for an unproven QB. That is way too much. -
What we've learned about McDermott & Beane from this season
Bob in STL replied to Dr. K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Solid first year for McD. The team is prepared and focused. The performance on field is usually good considering these factors: 1. No down field passing threat with Tyrod 2. Right side of OL is poor 3. Very limited talent at wr 4. No back up RB 5. Defensive Front seven play versus run is very poor 6. No pass rush Some game day on field decisions were questionable no doubt, you can say that for most coaches. Overall B+. The overall team has played better than the individual talent would indicate. Trading Dareus iat mid season and not securing a solid backup for McCoy are the biggest errors by McD and Beane so far. -
I really was not extremely close. If gained control with a foot in the air - which is a completely inconclusive decision by the league - he still drug his foot before he went out, you can see the dirt flying. The ref on the field made the correct call.

The right call on 4th and 1 from the Pats* 33 was to go for the first down. Nothing to lose. Expecting the kicker to deliver a 50 yarder in cold and wind is not smart. The miss just handed them 7 yard plus the momentum. Bad decision.

I guess I have to "like" the first response to the OP.

Mike Tolbert - Pro Bowl FB Alternate?

I liked Jamie Mueller and Carwell Garner. Both were very tough dudes. -
Has officiating ever NOT been a problem?
Bob in STL replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, we never really talked about the officials ... Before all the replays, before the challenges, the planned commercial time outs, before the countless pregame and post game shows and analysis. Back then you lined up and played and the ref's calls were made. You moved on. You did not see it over and over. Before all the protection of late hits, dirty hits, etc. Before the stupid and ridiculous celebrations made by today players for doing their job. Special teams player going into a dance ritual for making a tackle ... hoot hoot! The players today are better than ever, but the game is not and the product on the field is not. -
How should the team respond to Gronk?
Bob in STL replied to Magox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Play hard and win. Winning will hurt him the most. Hit Brady hard every chance you get. Hit Gronk hard and low. Don't be dirty or dumb. -
Mini Max played in 1968 and 1969, a combined total of 25 games. These teams were really lousy. They were horribly coached by John Rauch and Harvey Johnson. Most of the great Bills players of the mid 60's were either traded away, injured, or at the end of their careers. Mini Max stats: Listed generously at At 5'8" and 180 lbs his stats were not bad for playing on the worst team in the AFL 160 carries, 599 yards, 3.7 YPC, 3 TD. 29 pass receptions for 209 yards, 0 TDs He had a 100 kick return for a TD in 1968.

Billy Shaw WAS great even with injuries. He is on the First Team All Time AFL Team and he is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. You must be thinking of Tom Sestak, my avatar. Tom is on the First Team All time AFL Team. He did not make the Pro Football HoF because he never played a game in the NFL due to injury. Sestak was a beast. Fast and strong. He lead the best defenses the Bills EVER had, in any era, that would be 1963-66. To this day the best DT we ever had.

So all of our wins were lucky and all the loses depict the true reality? We have less talent but we are winning more? The "lose for better draft picks philosophy" really helped the Sabres didn't it? Two years after tanking they are worse than ever. Look at the Cleveland Browns, all those primo draft picks are really lighting it up. Funny the Pats and Steelers seem to do fine without drafting in the best spots? They both have been winners for over a well decade now. In football the draft is not a crap shoot. There are good players throughout the draft. We are not going to draft 6 rookie starters next year so forget this crazy notion. Winning breeds winning.

A open letter to Coach McDermott
Bob in STL replied to Foreigner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I re-read your post. I guess Coach Tomlin and the Steelers forget to look at the tape of the Miami game? "Coach we don't need to trust the process, we need to win the game in Foxboro, a game that almost nobody thinks we can win. Maybe, we can't, but part of the problem in winning in the NFL is how do we stop the other guys. We already know how to do that next Sunday, the same way the Fish put it to the Pats Monday night, and that is to take Gronk out of the game, and not let a 40 year old QB with no legs and a tired arm beat you." -
Brown is not out there to be a hands guy, he is there to slow down the wave of players trying to recover and to allow our guys to get the ball. The kick-off was so short that Brown actually did the right thing .. he just did not make the play. It is not a mistake to recover it before 10 yards, it happens all the time on a poor kick. Before it travels 10 yards it is not a free ball and the receiving is the only team that can legally touch the ball. So Brown did not do the wrong thing. The just failed to execute. His gaff aside, Brown is a guy I am not very high on. He can't cover and he is not a great run stuffer either. I still am pissed he did not go after Gronk but heck, I'm old school in that department.

Defense the last four weeks
Bob in STL replied to The Now Moment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They can use more talent in the front 7 but they have been getting the most out of what they have. Hopefully the bad play in that 3 game losing streak is gone. -
A open letter to Coach McDermott
Bob in STL replied to Foreigner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a team sport. The great Bills teams of the SB years were a bunch of Pro Bowlers with potential until they figured out their "process for winning" ... Team first, better practices, more work, more study, be on time, hold yourself accountable - then you can hold others accountable. This is what raises the bar. This is how excellence is achieved. Coach McD is setting the example that doing more and preparing better as a habit, now go and make it the norm. Once it is the norm then go it do more and set a new bar and make that the norm. That is the process. It is not mysterious. When he talks about "earning the right to win" he means this. We finally have a coach that gets results, even with limited talent and depth. -
Wow. Bitter response. Cutler under pressure caused the turnovers. The pressure came from the Bills defense. Coach McD had his team ready to play, AGAIN. Deal with it.

14 games and Zay still doppping passes
Bob in STL replied to Dadonkadonk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That deep pass on the sideline looked like a drop but it was a very good defensive play. I suspect he will work hard in the off season and get a lot better. I recall people thought that Eric Moulds was not very good either. Too early to say, he needs more time. -
Marshall Faulk, 2 others suspended from NFL Network.
Bob in STL replied to jaybee's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True. To clarify. It can get confusing in the workplace. We hire many smart and pretty young girls out of college. I see them acting much more independently than decades ago , dressing a bit "unconventional" for the office. I see things can and do happen. I have three great millennial children so I have experience dealing with all generations. Getting out of the rat race and golfing, playing, and partying full time --- I deserve that! -

I am so glad to be a baby boomer getting ready to retire in three years. No subject is safe anymore. Morals are gone, or maybe everything is just exposed? -
Are they mentally tough? They are getting there, there are signs that the culture is changing. Getting rid of Prima Donna's like Watkins and Mario Williams helps the locker room, also getting rid of distractions like Dareus will help. Each of these players, while very talented, were not known for leadership. When they start to consistently comeback in the 4th quarter, when they start stomping on teams that they should beat, then they will have taken another step.

^ Worst post of the thread. Even with you laughing face. You know more about coaching football than McDermott AND you what's wrong with America. Wow! I would not bet on winning, I know it's a longshot, but I think it can happen. I want to see how this team responds against Miami first. How will they prepare? Who plays QB ? Maybe this team comes together and finishes 9-7 and squeaks in? Maybe they get to 10-6? I have seen strange things happen in sports all the time. The Miami game and the play of the QB in that game will tell us a lot but realistically I know our chances are not good.
