Lets Check Back To Reality On The Bills Defense
Bob in STL replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they improved the defensive talent and depth from where they ended last season ... much more so than the offense has. With Leslie Frazier running the defense I think it is a safe bet they improve from last year. -
Ranking Pre-Marv Bills HCs
Bob in STL replied to HalftimeAdjustment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Saban and Knox for sure. After that Joe Collier was the best coach by far as he finished 9-4-1, won the division and lost to KC in the championship game the year after Saban left. He struggled the next year as the team was being dismantlled, Kemp was injured and Lamonina gone. He was at least an excellent defensive coordinator for both the Bills with Saban, and for the next 20 years with Denver. -
Jim Braxton needs to there, So does Tasker Ernie Warlick over Clay Kyle over Earl Edwards Ted Washington over Dunaway Edgerson has to play. Joe Develin over Barber and Foley Wallace Francis was good but not all time Bills good. Moorman over Macguire Christie over Gogolak. Reuben Brown for sure

NO WAY. Who is to blame? How about the players. How about stay in your lane and defend the field. There were several players that did not do this. If they had the ball is either not thrown or a tackle is made.

Buffalo News in financial trouble
Bob in STL replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can say these things about just about every newspaper in every city in the country. People don't read the paper anymore. News on TV all day, sports on TV all day, weather on TV all day, coupons replaced with groupons, internet, handheld mobile phones, talking and thinking in bullets and sound bites. Newspapers will be gone soon. Then an there are the people, like in this thread, that will entirely abandon a media source because of a story they didn’t like. Opinion columns and editorials are not valued anymore. Just read this thread and see “they do t agree with my politics, so I’ll follow something that does”. -
The Biggest Whiffs In Buffalo Bills History
Bob in STL replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lots of great comments, ignoring the many draft mistakes the handling of coaches and front office has been a mess and is the driving reason for the Bills overall poor history. 60’s - trading Lamonica and Hiring Rausch 70’s - Harvey Johnson twice, Saban quitting again, Jim Ringo, Stew Barber. 80’s - interfering with Knox, hiring Kay and Hank 90’s - chasing out Polian, then Butler, then Wade 00’s - not one good move to stabilize FO, Donahoe, Marv, Brandon, and a bunch of bad coaches 10’s - Unqualified Nix as GM, less qualified Whaley, hiring Rex. -
Chuck was a great coach. In 1978 he started to straighten out a wayward ship that fell of course in 1967. The 1980 team was a healthy Joe from the SB. Lots of great veterans on that team. I was upset to see him leave and understand why. In fifty eight years years we have had 3 great head coaches and one or two competent ones. Chuck is in the top 3, no question.

My least favorite was knowing he told Pegula “don’t let him leave the building “ in reference to Rex Ryan, but that changes this morning upon reading his statement in his last conference. His is goal was to last 20 years with the Bills. Longevity? In other words he was in it for himself. Not to win? Not to build excellence? Not to be a positive influence or give back to the community? I have no favovorite moments related lates to Brandon. Ralph is probably turning in his grave. Good riddance Russ.

For the Sabres it has been consistently bad in fact. Downright deplorable hockey turning our arena into a morgue.

EXACTLY why I think Beane blew the '18 draft. -Rd. 1

So to be a GM all you have to do is read magazines and internet articles? Your guessing on all of the playing we didn’t pick. Lets see in 3 years. I’m guessing that Edmunds is a Star, our 3rd rounder is is in the DL rotation as a solid starter, we pull a starter and a few key contributors out of the rest. So even if Allen is a bust, and yes a costly bust, the draft will grade ok. Part of of the problem with the Bills as a franchise is the unwillingness to draft qb’s. We need to draft them until we find one. Give Allen a chance. -
Those were the correct facts. The NHL changed the percentages in the lottery, making it harder for the bottom team to win. The McDavid year we had a 20% (maybe slightly more) chance of winning, yesterday it was 18.5%. Also, they had three lottery picks yesterday, if the Sabres did not get picked in any of them then they drop to 4th. Fourth was the lowest possible slot and the odds were slightly greater than 50% that we would be at least 3rd.

Sabres tenor has been a series of avoidable blunders. Mistake 1. Keeping Riger and letting him sign Erhoff and Lieno to ridiculously stupid contracts. Reiger was better when Golasono curtailed his spending. We saw how stupid he could be with an open checkbook. Mistake 2. Firing Ruff and letting Reiger put an unqualified Rolston behind the bench. Ruff lost the team and Rolston certainly was not the guy to restore order. Reiger should have been fired first, and replaced by an experienced GM with an NHL track record who then decides Ruff’s fate. Mistake 3. Hiring an unqualified Pat LaFontaine, bringing in his buddies from Penn State, and creating a confusing organizational mess, leading to LaFontaine leaving and Murray running the mess and making it worse. mistake 4. Murray was a poor choice to rebuild a team. This is on LaFontaine but Terry P could not see the obvious problems. Murray never ran anything on his own. and made countless errors. He traded valuable assets and got very little in return and he did nothing to improve the farm team. Huge gaffs. Murray will never be an NHL GM.

Dahlin could be the Superstar defenseman we have never had. The Sabres have never had a Norris Troohy winning defenseman. I see see things looking up for both teams. All Terry needs to do is find good people to run the teams and get out of the way. Easy to say, apparently not that easy to do.

Did the Bills REALLY get their guy?
Bob in STL replied to Scorp83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only panic I see is you panicking as a fan. Why would Beane panic sitting on 6 picks in 3 rounds? The worse that could happen is you get 6 great prospects. That is all any draft pick is, a prospect. They refused to to pay a Kings ransom to move to 2, 4, 5,etc. They outbid AZ for Tampa’s pick and got Allen. Arizona got the consolation prize. They might be wrong about Allen, but there was no panic. -
Great news. I hate to jump the gun ... Buffalo has never had a Norris Trophy Winner ... maybe someday.

The Bills don't need a WR.

Everyone is talking about Allen. I doubt he beats out McCarron in preseason. We shall see. -
So many OL being drafted - what should we do?
Bob in STL replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We found Matt Milano in the 5th round last year. We should be able to find a few good players with a 3, 4, and two 5’s. -
Irresponsible to trade away so many picks?
Bob in STL replied to Klaista2k's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they did fine. Well we get three picks in three rounds just like most teams. Getting 2 firsts in the top half of the first round is the kicker. Allen is a project like any qb, Edmunds will start and move all over the field. Third round will be G or WR or maybe BPA. Then we have 5 picks in the last 4 rounds to fill out some spots. It it would have been nice to draft 6 players in the first 3 rounds but we used the picks to get what we wanted and desperately needed. -
None of the top 4 QBs is a slam dunk without concerns. We had a choice between Rosen and Allen and we took the one with a better arm. I am sure the meetings and interviews played a major part as well. We moved up to get him so there is something there we like. I think Beane and McDermott know much more than the fans on this board. For this season let Allen hold the clip board and learn the NFL game while working on his mechanics, then lets see what he has next season. That is all we can do.
