My first playoff game review and the last one of the season. Today felt like a different game from the time I woke up and had a much different feeling when it was over. I don't have the same defeated attitude nor am I terribly upset. A part of me would rather lose a close game this week than a probable blow-out next week. Maybe that's a defeatist attitude, but today was a bonus and the ultimate goal of ending the drought in a rebuilding year was accomplished. 1 - Tyrod - I'm just going to this out of the way now because I don't want to focus on the negatives too much. Tyrod most likely played his last game for the Bills unless he's used as our bridge quarterback. However, after this game, I don't even know if I'd bring him back for that. I also don't know that he's going to have much trade value either. Never mind the 3 total points he scored, but his inability to hit a pass more than 10 yards downfield has regressed the most of all his skills. He missed a clear TD on the FG drive and Thompson deep on the final drive. Both guys had a clear few steps and those throws need to be made. He also threw two out routes short of the posts. Overall, his entire game was a series of 5 yard passes and was never a thread to the Jags defense. Thank you for getting us to the playoffs Tyrod, but if they can find a better bridge quarterback or their guy in the draft, then it's time we part ways. But first and foremost, thank you. 2 - Dennison - While TT can be blamed for a lot of missed throws, Dennison needs to take his share of the blame for calling plays that TT clearly can't make. Has TT hit a single fade route all year? Where's the WR screens? TT may be limited, and I'm sure McDermott will watch all the game field to see if the plays were there and TT couldn't execute, but I think it's a combination of both. Dennison should be on the way out as he wasn't the first choice and a truly uninspiring hire. If we go QB in the draft, then we really need to get our guy to make sure our new QB can stay comfortable in a stable system. 3 - Refs - The Refs were not the reason we lost this game. However, I'm just tired of seeing reviews go against the Bills. The INT should have been overturned as the ball hit the ground twice as he rolled over it. That's the kind of call that seems to keep going against the Bills, no matter what the play is on the field. Also, maybe I need to read the rules again, but I'm surprised the tackle that knocked TT out of the game wasn't a penalty. That was a full-on head lock and forced TT from the game. If that's Brady, it's definitely a penalty. Again, today was just for of the same with 5-/50 calls going against the Bills 4 - Thanks, that was fun Don't forget, no regrets Except maybe one Made a deal not to feel 5 - Lorax - I haven't called Lorax out in my reviews at all this year, but he was the defensive MVP today. Lorax was all over the field and blew up some plays in the backfield. He shot the gap on a few plays and really did a fantastic job. I would have liked to see more from him this season, but he showed up when he had to. 6 - Schmidt - Both punters did an amazing job switching fields today. Schmidt only had one questionable punt where he seemed to be out on the field more than any other player. I'd be curious to know if a record was broken for most punts downed inside the 20 in a playoff game. 7 - Defensive Pressure - I finally got what I asked for going into a game. We stacked 8 in the box, kept one safety deep, and really shut down the run and deep pass. While against an inept offense, this was the defensive effort we needed today. The stand after the tipped Int was HUGE as it kept a field goal off the board. It's frustrating that the effort was wasted, but it created some optimism for me going forward. If we can get a DT who can push the middle of the pocket, I think this goes back to being a top 5 defense. 8 - Last two minutes of first half - Anyone else just know we were going to give up points? The stupid penalty, the 3 and out, allowing Bortles to scramble....That was our most Billsy moment and to me killed our momentum the most. 9 - Secondary - In a game where Bortles had more rushing yards than passing, a big shout out goes to the secondary. Almost every defensive back had a big play. White better when DROY and I'm excited to have Poyer and Hyde together for the next few years. Gaines will be the biggest defensive offseason question for the team, but I like what we've put together so far. 10 - McDermott - The Bills were ready for today, but the lack of talent on offense lost to a more talented defense. Our defense was fantastic all game. We shut down the run and pass while only giving up 10 points on the road in the playoffs. You can complain about the Bortles scrambles, but to have everything else shut down, have multiple opportunities to win, is all you can ask for. Any team would take 10 opposing points. Overall, I feel better about our Head Coach than I have any during the 17 year drought. I have faith in what him and Beane will get done this offseason and expect to see evolution next season. Thank you as well McDermott as you gave all of us one of our best weeks as a Bills fan. Until next year guys, Go Bills!!!

Now that Sammy’s season is over and Free Agency awaits him, I’m curious as to what his value will be. As a Bills fan, we saw glimpses of brilliance. Many of us argued that his lack of production was because he was a decoy, we didn’t have a QB that could get him the ball, or he had nagging injuries. This seaon, all of those excuses were gone and he still disappears from games. I can’t understand how his obvious potential doesn’t sustain in games, but the result is what it is. To me, the 2nd round pick and Gaines was a robbery by us. With all of that, what kind of deal do you think he pulls in and where does he go? I think he either settles for a 1 year deal or gets 3 years at 8-10 mil from someone like the Bears. Thoughts?

How many Bills fans will be at the game Sunday?

Considering their normal attendance, I suspect that a lot of those early sales were to re-sellers. I think we will have a strong showing -
The only thing I agree with about this article is that it felt like they were gearing up for a final run this offseason. They made trades and signed guys in ways they normally don’t. The Jimmy G thing is interesting if true, but the rest doesn’t seem like anything of substance that would cause the team to disband like it suggests.

Stack 8 in the box, Poyer deep. Let White and Gaines play man and dare Bortles to beat us. I trust our secondary to allow us to stack the box, shut down Fournette and chase Bortles into bad throws.

Jury is still out on those guys. I’m not sold on Mahomes or Watson yet. We won’t know for a few years. I was glad we passed on them, made the playoffs, and have the ammo we do now in this draft.

The more I think about it, I think I’m staying put unless it’s a minor trade up into the Teens for Rudolph or Mayfield. I think Rudolph is the only one having a shot of still being there. If it doesn’t happen and we roll with Tyrod and get quality around him, I think we can sell the farm next year for a QB. Most teams will have gotten them this year, so there’s less competition. And we need to solidify a lot of holes. I think that adding the depth changes a few of those blowout losses this year and we are a better team. This isn’t a positive vote for TT, but I just can’t justify losing so much potential talent for a “Maybe” QB. Ideally, I would want Cousins and use our picks like normal. I think we are a 10-6/11-5 team in that scenario and we have the cap room.

I’ve seen mocks with him going in the top 15. Don’t underestimate the panic that kicks in when the 3 of the top 5 are drafted. This is why I think Mayfield is the guy. Wasn’t there a report about us heavily scouting him? And we definitely need to trade up to get him

Let this be a lesson to all of you about posting when you are tired

Don’t underestimate teams trading up. In your top 10 right now you have the Browns, Giants, and Jets. They could and should all go QB. Thankfully the 49ers are set now. But don’t discount the Redskins, Cardinals, or Cardinals trading up. Everyone is going to want their guy and at least 4 of them could the top ranked player on a teams board. I think it’s going to be a frenzy with the most trades we’ve seen so far. The Colts, Browns, and 49ers could all be looking to trade back and get picks.

NFL Turning Point. The moment the drought ended
Virgil replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s just never going to get old -
With the announcements of Darnold and Rosen entering the draft, we now have at least 5 QB’s that will most likely go in the first round, maybe all in the top 10. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of quarterback hungry teams out there. If you aren’t in the top 5 and want one, I think the Colts are your chance to trade up, but that’s going to cost us a lot of our picks, if not all of them. So, for those who want one of those QBs, would you sacrifice all those other main picks for him or do you keep the picks, build a solid overall team, and hope for a QB that falls, FA, or next year? Personally, I’m torn because I would love to see a Mayfield here. But I think we could shore up almost every other position with all of our picks and get a lot better still. Then either enter the Cousins sweepstakes or draft one next year when all these teams have their QBs. *I’m assuming most of our picks would be needed to trade from the 20’s to 3. I’d guess both 1sts this year and next, our 2nd and 3rd this year as well. So we’d get Mayfield, a 2nd, 5th major pick this year. Worth it?

Virgil replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it was so easy, why didn’t it happen in the past 17 years? If it’s luck this year that 9-7 made it, were we always just really that unlucky? Is luck the deciding factor? Yes, we were 9-7, but we were a better 9-7 than two other teams. We won games we normally lost. I’m sorry, but I’m not buying what you’re selling. This was a special season and we saw glimpses of it at times. We aren’t great...yet. -
A Few Thoughts About the Dolphins Game

I wish I could say I was looking forward to that matchup. But it there’s something to be said for meeting the same team 3 times in 5 weeks. -

Terry - I’m glad this worked out and happy you’re here McGod thinking - I’m going to break your wallet open so hard

What did you do when the Bengals scored that TD
Virgil replied to CaptnCoke11's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Screamed Yes like a woman while jumping up from the couch. Proceeded to well up, and then assumes the prayer position on the floor in front of the TV until the game clock hit double zero -
Didn’t see if this one was shared, but by far the best. McGod has to walk away, Kyle just cries, and Terry is ecstatic. I love that McGod has only been here a year and he totally gets it.

Dennison - Does He Stay On As OC For 2018?
Virgil replied to The Guy In Pants's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This one is hard for me. On defense, we know we are missing pieces so there an excuse for them. On offense, the pieces are there in theory. So either TT, Dennison, or both need to be changed up. Even with a better defense, our second half scoring is terrible and you can’t rely on the defense that much. -
Dougie and Dareus, Who Gets The Last Laugh?
Virgil replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not to blow off your question specifically or be rude, but I just don’t care. I’m honestly happy to just be in. With that being said, it would be great to beat both of them and show them what they quit on. -

He did. I mentioned the sack he gave up. But considering they didn’t give him any support and that was all he gave up.... He’s come a long way -
A Few Thoughts About the Dolphins Game

Thank you. Probably took me the longest to write of them all. Just so many examples this season. Where the ball normally bounces the other way.
