  1. That's right - 1st round needs to be addressed will include interior offensive line, CB2, and maybe OT (if Williams does not return). If the team desires to upgrade RB -- that is a mid-round type of need in the draft.
  2. Don't forget Maddie -- that voice is hard to listen to. Might be a nice girl - but not enjoyable to hear on the radio. I have only heard her on the radio - never have seen her - perhaps she has other qualities that might endear an audience besides her lovely voice (I hope so, lol).
  3. I don't get the question either - I would think that Josh should keep throwing to the open man. If the open man is performing poorly - then a coaching decision must be made. this is not something that Josh should be thinking about as he is in the pocket scanning the field. Just find the open man & get the ball to him.
  4. Thank you for the great write up Shaw - I always look forward to & enjoy your contribution each week. I also greatly appreciate Andre Roberts contributions to the cause this year. He is not only consistently dangerous with his returns (hoping that he takes at least one to the house before all is said & done) - my favorite aspect of his kick returning is his quality decision making back there - he knows when to make a return, when to take a touchback, and when to fair-catch. His mental mistakes back there are rare. Remember the days of guys like Leodis or Chris Watson ("the punt catcher"). I don't miss holding my breath every kick - now It is such a relief not be worried about some bone-head play by our returner on every kick! Now I am excited to see what will happen when Roberts gets the ball in his hands (just don't let him play wide receiver, please, lol).
  5. Yes - hopefully Cam is the first in a decades long string of bridge guys for the Pats*. Also -we both clearly have very good genes in our respective family trees!
  6. Good luck to those lovely Patriots* fans - I hope they do wind up with a "bridge" QB. It is much more common for a franchise to languish from one "bridge" QB to the next, from year to year, in a seemingly endless search for the next elusive franchise guy - rather than to have back to back franchise guys. Here's hoping that the current situation in New England is just the tip of the iceberg of a long & tortuous purgatory of searching for the elusive next "TB 12"!
  7. We could have just kept Frank Gore if you wanted someone to gain 1 yard - he seemed pretty good at that. Just couldn't count on him going any farther than that at this stage of his career.
  8. Yes sir! the road to improving the RB position in the modern NFL is through young, fresh legs -- not old & burned out legs. In addition - most of the young legs are also cheaper - possibly an increasingly significant issue given potential COVID-19 impacts on upcoming salary caps.
  9. I am the first to admit it - I am an old fuddy duddy - and I do not like the all red look. It looks gimmicky to me ...
  10. Yes - it may have been Marv - you are probably correct. . Buddy might not have been the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, but he was a fun character. My all time favorite quote from Buddy was after he punched Kevin Gilbride on the sidelines -- instead of issuing the standard apology about the incident he said "Kevin Gilbride will be selling insurance in two years".
  11. Good idea - go for the pay per view - get paid first. Just insulting a large & potentially hostile professional athlete, without getting paid first, didn't work out for Jim Rome. Or - was the publicity from his incident with Jim Everett payback enough?
  12. What a strange thread this is. Over the years we have had many instances of players who contributed relatively little on Sunday (or should we correct that verbiage to "Game Day", now that the Bills are more successful again!) - but were kept around for what was widely considered to be "Leadership" qualities (for you fellow old timers - Phil Villapiano is a good example of this). What is the value of having a player like Smith or Villapiano on the roster? I for one feel that there can be a place for a player like this - and the value of such a player must be found outside the statistics. This is not to say that Lee smith's penchant for untimely penalties does not bother me (it certainly does) - but Smith's contribution to the team might indeed hold more value than we might think. When he offers no value to the team - or when his negative plays (penalties) outweigh his intangible contributions - then I have no doubt that the Bill's waste no time in releasing him. After all - the NFL is a cut throat business - no room for sentimentality in the NFL. Also - to paraphrase Buddy Ryan (at least I've seen this attributed to him) -- "If you start listening to what the fans say you should be doing, then you will soon be sitting in the stands with them".
  13. - The Bills Defense has it's best game of the year - holds the vaunted 49ers run game to below 100 yards on the night. - Andre Roberts returns one for a TD - but it will be on a punt return - because the 49ers will not be doing a lot of kickoffs due to the outstanding play by our defense tonight. - This will be one of those rare games where we win by more than one score.
  14. A lot of crazy Hail Mary stuff going on this year - and it seems to not be just with the Bills. Maybe we should bring back this guy --I never remember any Hail Mary's being completed when he was with us - he obviously knows a thing or two about how to defend last second desperation throws! No wimpy prevent defenses with him in charge ...
  15. I am all for getting the band back together - do you think there is any shot that Kelvin Benjamin is still "healthy, in shape, and looking forward to continuing his career" too? Also - we'll need to let Duke Williams join in as a new member of the band - this would surely make some of his groupies happy!
  16. "In other surprising news today - the sun is expected to set in the west this evening & rise in the east tomorrow morning ..."
  17. I often enjoy Romo's insight into games - however, his slobbering love fest for Brady and his constant excuse making for Brady's performance was hard to stomach. As a top flight analyst - which I think that Romo is - I expect better analysis.
  18. Some of the big time Duke Williams fans on this board probably think that Duke himself should be the emergency kicker in case Tyler Bass can't play - even though he has never place kicked in a professional football game. After all I seem to keep reading on here that Duke should play tight-end for us - even though he has never played that position either!
  19. What??? Does this look like a clueless guy?? Must be that Joe & Sam are just bad QB's, lol.
  20. I am with you - Robert James was my favorite. I believe that he was the best CB that the Bills have ever had & one of the best of all time in the entire NFL. As an old timer - he was my favorite. It is such a shame that injury cut his career way too short.
  21. Best of luck to Brees - he is as tough as they come. Expect to see him return to the lineup before season's end. Just hope for his sake that the Saint's don't employee the same team physician as the Chargers!
  22. We would never have made it up to #3 if Ralph Wilson still owned the team! (lol).
  23. Now you're talking! We can trade Josh to the Titans for Ryan Tannehill -- as long as I get Lauren Tannehill as part of the deal!
  24. Fair enough - but do we actually know the process Mr. Wilson used to select what turned out to be his quality GM choice? Did he seek out help from his NFL connections or was he just lucky in plucking someone from the old-boy network that just happened to work out? I think that I am now just going back to enjoying that the team is 7 & 2 and looking good on the field, in the standings, and for the immediate future.
  25. So Mr. Wilson just "lucked out" in finding a GM who could put it all together & build those Super Bowl teams - but the Pegula's used all their business acumen to select Beane to be the GM to lead the current turnaround? The Pegula's didn't just get lucky in their hiring - but Mr. Wilson was just like the blind squirrel stumbling over a nut? Now I am not here to bash the Pegula's - just like I earlier noted about Mr. Wilson - I will be ever grateful that they have saved & kept the franchise here in our community - however - have you not seen what their ownership has brought to the Sabre's organization? They are not some magical owners who always push all the right buttons - they made a good hiring decision and now we are reaping the benefits. Much like we enjoyed the benefits of the hire Mr. Wilson made leading to our former glory days. Hopefully they will have a greater percentage of hiring success than Wilson did - and hopefully none of their decision making with the Sabres will rub-off on the football operation.
