Circumstances are a little different this time around. Moving Evans while tough and difficult kind of makes sense for both sides. Evans going to a contender with a quality QB in the later years of his career. And Tampa getting something for someone they won't be able to afford the next year (which would also be a bad fan pressure situation for them).
-
Doesn't M Evans have the same type of resume as DHop - and DHop is considered potential HOF. Just took a look, Evans stats look like they can be in the ballpark of Isaac Bruce who got in with 15,000+ yards in about 16 seasons. If you add 3-4 more years in Buffalo Evans will be there.
-
That could be true. He might have a lot invested in the community and Evans might want to stay through thick and thin. Maybe the team and Evans can have a discussion and come to terms that this could be the best for both parties involved. Tampa will be in a tough spot if they have to give Evans his next contract with the investment they already have in the WR room while the rest of the team is in tatters.

I don't think Bowles has anything to do with personnel. And even if he did, this is typical coachspeak. Most coaches would love having $20M Godwin, $10M Gage (although this seems to be a Brady influenced overpay), and also Evans. But it seems unlikely to me that the Bucs will be able to keep him in 2024.
-
But we have an extra third for Edmunds. And while DHop is available for just money, the money may be too much. It's looking like DHop is wanting over $15M. Evans has a contract with $13M that would be the starting point. Because the Bucs are going to stink. Because the Bucs have no intention of reupping Evans (expecially with Godwin and Gage at pretty big money) Also maybe as a favor to Evans, he may discreetly want out.
-
He might be. Evans is on the last year of his contract. With the two other WRs under pretty sizable contracts, it seems reasonable that Evans would not be in a rebuilding teams plans. And if Evans isn't in their plans, they might want to move him while they can get a pick.

With over 300 combined pages I am experiencing DHop fatigue. Not only that, my desire for DHop has been reduced some by the skeptics. DHop's age, PEDs, personality, and now chase of the almight $, make me wonder about the alternatives. What about Mike Evans? Tampa could be outright terrible this year. Huge Brady hangover. Recent power ranking had Tampa 3rd or 4th worst in the league and they just had the viral video of pathetic QB play. Yet their WR room is quite expensive - M Evans $13M, C Godwin $20M, and R Gage $10M. M Evans should be able to be had. Pros for Mike Evans: Age: Evans is younger than DHop (8/21/93 v 6/6/92) Drugs: Evans has not been busted for steroids (so Evans can be more aggressive in his supplement routine) Production: Tie - while DHop has 11,298 yards, Evans 10,425 done in one less year culture/personality - Evans seems more level headed, no drama Cost - this is where it gets tricky. DHop looks like he wants greater than OBJ money ($15M), and while IMO DHop has a legitimate point that does not seem like the dollar figure the Bills have in mind. M Evans is on the last year of what was his big contract and it's a reasonable $13M. But to get him the Bills would probably need to send over a decent draft pick (maybe a 3rd) and do an extension for 2-3 years with the usual treats of guarateed money/signing bonus, but done in a decent cap friendly type way. While Evans has a ring, he might be chasing the HOF. And while Evans is classy enough to keep quiet, going to Buffalo would be great for his career. And Tampa has a problem with extending

Do you think the Bucs think 5-12? Unfortunately, I look at that pathetic division and view the Bucs as serious contenders to take it. Atlanta and Carolina stink, and New Orleans has been hampered by cap problems. If the Bucs were of the rebuilding mindset there could be the possibility of moving M Evans. The Bucs have a lot of money tied into the WR room with Evans, Godwin, and R Gage.

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)

"Clutch" means making good plays at key moments. You can be inconsistent but then make excellent plays when needed and be considered clutch. And this is exactly what Gabe was doing when he made spectacular toe tapping catches at the end of the first half against Indy in the playoffs, and then the explosion of offense he put up against KC. -

You seem to be confusing consistency with clutch. It was Davis' clutch play in the playoffs, coupled with his upward trend that gave many hope that he would be a fine WR2. Didn't really happen, but it had solid reasoning behind it. -
Beane: “working on at least 2 veteran UFA’s”
Einstein's Dog replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd say right now it looks like DHop wants more than the contending teams he would like to play for are offering. Expanding his search to see if any team ponies up more than the $15M OBJ got. I think some team will. I think, like you, that he would elevate the Bills into the top contender category once again. I would love it. I also would now be surprised to see him as a Bill. And I think I will be disappointed. It looks like I value DHop more than the FO (and apparently more than most teams in the league). I didn't think the $19M was outrageous after you smooth out the cap hit and a void year. I think $15M is a bargain and well worth it. -
True, there might be a variety of weapons, certainly offensive options. But my hope is Kincaid takes over the majority of the snaps and for that to happen it seems like Shakir's time will be affected. Shakir may have been open but as others point out, he ran wrong routes, had some drops, and was pathetic at blocking. If we need to endure some growing pains I would prefer to ride out Kincaid then Shakir. There's some pressure on Dorsey to diversity the offense. And another part of Dorsey's evaluation might be seen as improving the time to integrate his offensive weapons (Cook/Shakir/Hines -all slow last year). Get Kincaid in early!
-
For me, it's a little complicated. Of course I want Shakir to improve but I want to see Kincaid involved more. I view Shakir and Kincaid as in a slight competition for snaps and i want Kincaid to win. In my mind the offense will go to another level if Kincaid can hit the potential we talk about. The quicker we tap into that the better. Unfortunately snaps and playing time to Shakir may come at the expense of Kincaid.

I don't think it is clear that the Bills aren't the best offer. I think we might be, it's just that DHop wants more. For instance one set of rumors mentioned the Bills have offered around $10M but DHop wants OBJ money around $15M. I actually don't blame him, I think DHop is worth more than OBJ. But OBJ may have gotten more than he should have. The odds are slim but maybe no one will offer the big contract to DHop. In that case DHop may circle back to the Bills offer. -
Just read an article that states one sportsbook has Brady listed as the favorite for the QB position on the Raiders if Jimmy G fails his physical. Don't think I'd mind that as it would make KC's life much more difficult.

According to some of the leaks it's looking that way. Seems like the league isn't valuing DHop as much as I do. I rate DHop much higher than OBJ. I didn't think DHop's AZ contract was outrageous. $19M seemed worth it to me (cash not cap hit). That's C Godwin, A Cooper, K Allen type money. -

A lot of people say if it's about the money, we're done. But they don't seem to consider it's not black and white. For instance if the Pats* put out an offer $1M more than the Bills, it probably isn't cut and dry - especially if the competing offer contains incentive clauses. It's just how close does our offer have to be for him to take ours over the competition. I think part of the hold up is, if true, that no one has offered up OBJ money. I think DHop has a legitimate gripe, I think DHop is more valuable than OBJ. -
IMO, the check down problems weren't all on Josh though, more a combination. There were times the pass seemed too hot (or unexpected), other times it seemed too floated - so the D was able to react for minimal gain. And other times the short routes (ie Cook/Shakir) seemed run incorrectly. And finally sometimes the short routes had inexplicable drops (McKenzie). All leading to a lack of trust and chemistry. Hope this can be fixed. Whole offseason with some different players to fix this. Would add a lot to the effectiveness of the overall functioning of the offense.

I was going to say similar, DHop doesn't have to be All Pro for him to have a huge impact. If DHop is substantially better than Davis, the Bills will be a better team with DHop. -

Lets hold on with the "it's just a matter of Beane deciding to do it" conclusion. There may be a path to getting DHop a nice offer, but DHop would still need to accept it - it would need to be near the top of all the other offers DHop has to choose from. But c'mon Beane, work some magic!! -
Dorsey/Allen - let me be the first to say I think this season you may see Dorsey + Allen step up in a schematic/strategy way. Allen - by using the underneath swing pass as a staple. Getting the RBs with the outlet pass regularly, so much so that the pass rush freezes for just a bit longer. Also would love to see the no-huddle used. Allen has command during drives where he catches the D in personnel mismatches and doesn't allow them to substitute - a feature that the addition of Kincaid will facilitate. Dorsey - while the above looks like all Allen, it actually needs to be employed and encouraged by Dorsey. Also think that there might be a better run game, better balance.

A really good read on Damien Harris
Einstein's Dog replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not sure where you got that Moss was a 2nd rounder, but you're wrong. Also Singletary was not a wasted pick. The Bills got 4 years production out of him, a couple as RB1. I believe this was the plan all along. And it's a solid one, the strategy has been to have a low spend RB room and they have executed on it. D Harris is a great pickup. He fits the role the Bills can use for the Thunder type, short yardage guy. A Vet. And low cost on a prove it deal. I kindly ask that you refrain from posting a knee-jerk negative reaction in every thread. -
Ross Tucker ranks NFL Coach’s, places McDermott at #22.
Einstein's Dog replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
You're correct, no way should McDaniels be above McDermott. Remember McDaniels running Tua back out in the first Bills game after everyone at the stadium saw the stagger/concussion. McDaniels was clearly full out trying for victory at all costs. He won the battle but may lose the war, Tua may never fully recover. IMO, that's all on McDaniel. So while McDaniels may have the look of a nerdy offensive genius, to date he has acted like a me-first, cowardly buffoon. Compare that to McDermott and the away Cincy game. You could tell McDermott was not having the team go back out. He was going to forfeit the game if he had to- his team was in shock. McD was putting the interests of his team ahead of the game. McD was going to take the consequences of whatever the league decided to do - it was unchartered waters and he was being a leader. No doubt which coach I prefer.
