  1. I agree. And the question for most of us has now become when does the FO do the upgrade? Do they wait until next season or pull the trigger in-season. My hope has been the plan for some time (since missing out on OBJ and DHop) is to acquire a veteran in-season. They may have kept an outside hope that Gabe would rise to the occasion, but realized the long shot odds of that (and it has not happened). And just to be clear this does not mean you trade Gabe, he remains as WR3.
  2. I didn't say you were suggesting a trade, I am. And the trade talk is not about moving Gabe, it's about the Bills bringing in another WR. The evaluation the FO is making is if Gabe is WR2 material. If they make that decision within the two month time frame they then try and get a real WR2 (and that would obviously signal no intention of signing Gabe next year). That is a big time move for a SB push. The FO had claimed that Gabe's disappointing 2022 was because of injuries. I don't see any improvement while he is uninjured. The FO was already leery of Gabe and had investigated OBJ and DHop. I'm hoping this is plan B. My mentioning a trade if for the Bills to get a better WR, not move Gabe. If the FO makes the decision that Gabe is not the WR2, then they can try and go get one now - in-season trade. A Mike Evans type with the mind set that Gabe leaves next year.
  3. If the plan is to evaluate Gabe before the in-season trade deadline, they don't have that much longer. I think after our 8th game (Tampa) is the deadline. So, if that is a potential plan that decision will need to be made in the next month. And to me, it hasn't gone well so far.
  4. Drafted young WRs are crap shoots. Veterans are a much safer bet. Go Diggs like, yes we could have had J Jeff but also look at all the others we may have had that haven't panned out.. Buy a veteran, don't take any chances with this. And since you're getting a veteran do it in-season, don't wait. For instance, M Evans- he has a $13M salary this year and by the time they do an in-season trade over 1/3 of the season is gone. Probably for the third we got for Edmunds. You give him a two year contract (to overlap Diggs' contract for insurance purposes) at not much more than it would cost for Davis, around the money that DHop got. M Evans already knows the role he will have, and would probably love being WR2 in this offense. He's working on a HOF career and this would be a great way to keep at it. If Beane can get more creative, a run for C Kupp could happen. Diggs style. Throw a first their way and maybe Elam, and have them eat some of the money so we can make the finances work.
  5. I've seen enough. The inconsistency is still there. This is not an injury thing. We have one of the top 30 yard laser throwing QBs ever, all in a mobile 6'4" sturdy frame. You do not scrimp on getting two premier downfield WRs. I do not want to wait another season. This team with a M Evans or C Kupp is back to talking about the Superbowl.
  6. I'm not looking for value in WR2, I'm looking for a very good player. I'm also not saying we get rid of Gabe, keep him he would be good insurance if the WR2 we acquire gets injured. If we had M Evans instead of Gabe for the Jets game that would have been a victory. Fact. With the past rumors of the FO investigating OBJ and Dhop it has felt like Gabe has been on a trial run. IMO, Gabe is failing. I would love to see the FO aggressively go after a WR2 with an in-season trade. IMO, that is the biggest, most effective, move they could make for this season.
  7. Are you really that oblivious to coachspeak? And it seems McD is using the terms "revolutionary" and "creative" to suggest "gimmicky". Kind of suggests like he is pretty confident he has the answers.
  8. Probably a couple of WRs should be available prior to the trade deadline. The big ones are M Evans as Tampa now starts to destruct. He's on the last year of his contract and it's no secret that they probably aren't bringing him back. The next big one could be C Kupp. The Rams have the surprise young WRs that are showing in Kupp's absence. When Kupp comes back one of those pleasant surprises will be benched. The Rams might want to start thinking about the future and move Kupp.
  9. To me, Kincaid is a developing piece to take over the Beasley role. Getting another WR would put Gabe back into his rightful role as WR3, like when we had Smoke Brown. Diggs/Brown/Beas (backup Gabe) were good times. A Diggs/Evans/Kincaid (backup Gabe) trio would work well IMO.
  10. I can understand where you're coming from. For me, when I saw that replay, I was sick. This is our guy who has our WR2 role and that was the route he ran? There are only so many plays he is out there and he has to know they are going to review each one. Josh doesn't need to be excused, his job is nowhere near in jeopardy. A borderline WR2, in what I hope is a trial run, cannot be doing these things. IMO we needed him to improve and he hasn't.
  11. I'm not talking about trading G Davis, it's about us trading to get an upgrade at WR2. We would keep G Davis through this year and then let him hit the open market.
  12. Here's what I think/hope: The FO realizes Gabe Davis is not having a good year- last year here. The FO anticipated this and does not wait. In-season trade. We may use our first (Kupp) or second (M Evans) on a multi-year contract (going beyond Diggs' contract length for that insurance).
  13. The draft is somewhat of a crap shoot. Better to get a sure thing veteran. There were plenty of rumors the Bills tried to trade for DHop - once he hit the open market the odds went down.
  14. Obviously it's not one person. And more than one person can have a bad game. But when a borderline WR runs a route like that, there can be real consequences. Especially when going into this season Gabe had to become more consistent, clean up the drops, and run better routes. It hasn't happened. Plan B needs to be in full swing, and this can't wait until next year.
  15. Gabe a top 10 WR2? No. You mentioned Mia, LAC, Cincy, Denver + Pitt. Now add Vegas (Adams/Meyer/Renfro), Jax (Ridley/Kirk). Then add the NYJ (Wilson/Lazard) and even Houston (Collins/Tank). And these are all AFC teams.
  16. I agree. The OLine and Spencer both seem improved. Of course they could improve more. Meanwhile our real "biggest problem on offense" (WR2) does not seem to have been addressed or improved. The inconsistency of G Davis is still there. His lackadaisical route against the Jets cost us the game. Another baffling drop against Wash. I've seen enough, the trial is over. Do what it takes to get a stud WR - M Evans or C Kupp.
  17. Just because they gave the offensive line help against one of the best defensive lines in football does not mean they will do that every game. Secondly the roster could have adjustments. There could be an in-season trade for a WR2 for example.
  18. Actually, I don't think the adjustments have been a problem. We have faced two of the best defensive lines in the league and their damage has been limited. Against lesser competition the plan could differ significantly. And my opinion of a different biggest problem on offense was deemed off-topic?
  19. Adjusting our Offense because we are scared of theirs is a mistake IMO. The offense should take what the defense gives us. And yes, the defense should be giving us easy run lanes and screens because the Fish have to protect against 20 yard lasers from a 6'5" laser throwing Manchild. It's why we routinely get the cover 2. If the Fins (Fangio) get cute and try to use a normal defense we should make them pay. And when we get up by two scores don't forget it's the Fish that need to be careful. The Bills started the derailment of their season last year by starting the Tua concussion parade. We've already ruined the Jets season by taking out their QB. And I don't know if M White really wants any part of getting into this game.
  20. I believe G Davis is failing his trial run for locking down the WR2 position. While I would love getting D Adams I don't think it is in the budget range. Seemed like OBJ and DHop were too expensive at the $12M range. For the in-season trade candidates that I am hoping we are considering, it was a good week 3. Tampa is coming back to Earth quickly by being crushed, if that continues the M Evans hope can be brought back up (my personal top candidate). J Meyers of Vegas is probably more realistic than Adams. Meyers is around $11M year - and Raiders need draft capital to get a real QB - our Edmunds third should be more than enough (maybe have them eat some of the salary). Denver stinks and one of C Sutton or J Jeudy should be available. The Rams are headed downward and have an excess of WRs once C Kupp comes back - don't know how they could get Kupp though.
  21. Dalton replaces Beasley. We could still use a WR2 that replaces the J Brown/E Sanders of years past. The promotion of Gabe did not work out (IMO). I think the FO had considered around a $10M investment with OBJ and DHop. When that didn't work they decided to try to see if Gabe could fill the gap again. It's not working. That $10M and the 3rd rounder (for Edmunds) should be able to get us a nice WR for 2/3's of this season (and hopefully with a contract that goes through another 2 more seasons as Diggs insurance). My dream scenario is work it out w M Evans. But we have some pretty decent RBs. We don't have a good WR2. Do you really think JT would help this team more than M Evans?
  22. I'm hoping they are looking in-season for WR2 upgrade. IMO they have been giving a trial period for one more chance for Gabe - and if the Jets game is any indication, he failed. There may be some good WR2's on the market before the trade deadline. I'm hoping Tampa comes back to reality - M Evans would be a great fit. Denver looks putrid, maybe C Sutton. Raiders might be willing to move J Meyers. Maybe Seattle crashes and T Lockett is available.
  23. The Bills don't need a bonafide WR1, just a significant upgrade in WR2. Are you saying M Evans is a WR1, because Tampa has C Godwin and M Evans. LAC has K Allen and M Williams. Jax has Ridley and Kirk. LVR has Adams/Meyer and Renfro. IMO, the best move to upgrade the Bills would be to get a significant upgrade at WR2. I do think the FO has a budget in mind and OBJ and DHop were above it.
  24. But Shanahan doesn't have an incredibly gifted QB that throws the best 25 yard lasers in all of football on his squad. If he did, he might prioritize getting that QB a second top notch WR to use this unworldly talent.
  25. Why not a WR? Davis does not cut it IMO. Use the remaining resources on a real weapon besides Diggs. Get a good WR before the trade deadline. I still have hopes for M Evans, Tampa could easily lose four out of the next five and look to deal him after we play them (Philly, NO, Det, Atl, Buff). Maybe D Adams if the Raiders tailspin. Maybe C Kupp. Getting an upgrade at WR2 does the most for elevating this offense.
