I still want to see some real investment into the position. It feels like we've got a lot of lotto tickets with Shorter, KJ Hamler, Andy Isabella, etc... If one of them hits, awesome, but I don't want to bank on it.

I'm seeing a lot of people mention Chris Jones and that he should be a target for the Bills. I'm not sold that he's worth the enormous contract he's going to get. The biggest positive is that he wouldn't be on the Chiefs, but I'd rather be a spender on the offense.

The player cuts and the Trubisky signing are hardly related, if at all. Almost all the guys they cut outside of Morse should have been cut based on their performance/contract last season anyways. There are other teams losing really good players because they can't afford them. That's not the case with the Bills.

We already found out. They can't hold the lead for the final drive because the defense was too tired. The secondary got absolutely carved to shreds. The problem was never so pronounced when Hyde/Poyer were a bit younger/healthier/faster. We needed to move on and get more youthful energy into that position. I think it's going to help the "defense can't hold on to the lead their given" narrative that we saw play out all last season. EDIT: And by the way, the rest of the league thought about Poyer the same way I'm describing him, but last season. He slunk back to the Bills after getting no enticing offers in FA.

The Steelers whole offense was a mess and Matt Canada was arguably the worst OC in the NFL. I'm not saying Mitch is a top tier backup, but I'm also gonna say that in the scope of what really matters for Bills W/L it's pretty unimportant.

I'd be mad if he kept them all. This isn't a knock on Poyer, Hyde, White or any of the others, because I appreciate the awesome plays they made and what they contributed over the years, but they all needed to go. We have to get younger. I'm not saying the guys that were cut would be holding us back next season, but they certainly wouldn't be pushing us to another level.

Totally. Douglas played at an extremely high level for us last season, arguably better than White ever has. Poyer/Hyde were awesome but the age caught up and they were playing at a baseline acceptable level last season. You don't pay 8 million for acceptable. Neal, Hines, Harty? Basically losing nothing. Morse is the only contributor that can't be obviously replaced, but it seems like they have a plan. They must have seen things from Edwards and McGovern that makes them think this move makes sense. They can draft a lineman early-ish too and I don't think anyone will be that upset.

I think the signing is fine, have the details been leaked yet? We know the max is 3years / 15 mil but how much of that is incentives? I think the Bills can still get one of these guys for a 1 year value deal and draft a safety in a later round too.

Not good. If he can compete for the CB3 role I'd be happy, if he outplays Benson and steals the CB2 role away I'll be shocked.

A guy who eats double teams and frees up Oliver? I still want Jones back but we need guys like this.

I think you can sign FA Safeties and get the same level of play for cheaper, if that's what he wants to do. I'd probably invest a 3rd rounder. Tre isn't going to be Tre and that salary was ridiculous after the injuries. It's just like the Miller situation except with Tre we had an out. Gotta take it. Harty? JAG, unfortunately. Can replace him with any number of guys off the street. Neal? Special teams don't move the needle for me, and the special teams was bad anyways with Neal on the roster. Morse is the only big name, especially considering we just traded Bates. The Bills are gonna get a lot younger and I think that's going to be to our benefit.

Maybe I'm crazy to think this but I don't think these cuts move the needle much for me in the terms of Bills win/loss for 24-25. Maybe you go from 11-6 to 10-7 but even that I think might be a stretch. Morse is the only impactful one of the bunch.

Love the player but I don't know how you could keep him around at his cap hit given the last two seasons. Good luck to him, I doubt it's the end of his NFL career.

I mean... Oof. Not a smart thing to say. McDermott really comes across having this "I can do little wrong" ego that has always rubbed me the wrong way. The guy preaches execution but his coaching on game day is always suspect.

The NFL is just a haven for dudes who have zero emotional control over themselves. Part of coming into the league should be therapy and financial literacy courses. So many of these guys have focused so hard on honing the football part of their life that they've let their mental stability go to shambles. It's sad to see.

Less popular: The Bills are and have been the closest team to the Chiefs level in the entire NFL since 2021, and if the Bills or Chiefs were in the NFC it would be a Bills v Chiefs Superbowl since 2020-21. Unpopular: Dawson Knox is way better than fans give him credit for.
