Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
DCofNC replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
If he’s not going to get paid, he won’t sign anywhere until near the end of camp. He’s not going to go out in all that time and risk if he’s not making a big check. Just the business end of it all. -
Yeah, you always hear it, then you go to a new stadium and they are no where near what we have now. I’ll withhold judgement, but the reality is, when you start creating more luxury suites and less bleachers, the lines end up getting jacked up, seats go way higher (away from the field) and the comparable locations are rarely, if ever as good for the average fan.

I haven’t been to all the stadiums, but a fair number of them and as far as the game day experience goes, there’s nothing better than Buffalo. That said, the stadium has next to zero amenities and all that said, the egregiously low ticket prices reflected that. Unfortunately, Buffalo is moving into the new world of PSLs, way more luxury seating, insane ticket prices, worse sight lines, and everything a woman could want in their game day experience.

The term Journeyman is one used in the trades to indicate you are of proficiency at the basics of your trade, not a master, not a rookie. It’s a term to say, you are serviceable as an average expectation at your job. It is not one to say you have taken a “journey”, as in many teams, to be where you are. One does not need to go to many teams to be a Journeyman, as you are incorrectly trying to make it seem. These players are, in the present terms, a JAG or Just Another Guy. They are not poor, they are not special. God help them if Diggs goes down, season over.

Why is Tyrod Taylor not more revered in the Bills fan base?
DCofNC replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
The crazy part is, he was clearly the best passer in camp the year he won the job. -

He’s an exceptional athlete that plays entirely too conservatively. He could have been one of the better QBs in the league IF he would have made a throw with anticipation and not wait for everything to be perfect. He won’t. So he is what he is, a really good back-up with a very limited ceiling. -
Did we do enough? I think we are getting there.

OL could have been built through the draft, take you pick of all the whiffs and look at what we could have had. Had he found a real pass rush with all the capital spent on DL, Miller wouldn’t have been needed and money would be available for OL too. -

Right now, I’d call it a push with more upside. -

Nah, we’ll give you 10 yards of cushion, no pass rush and tackle you with a pillow, especially with the game on the line. -

Makes sense to me -

If he can’t land big money, he’ll probably wait till the end of camp to sign, no sense in doing all that extra work for WAY less than you were going to be paid. If he had been a FA all summer, he would have at least made what he was supposed to in AZ with more years and guarantees, they screwed him (and themselves) by not trading him or cutting him earlier. At this point he’s going to have to take less to play for a real team and perform to get paid or he’s going to have to waste another year with a pretender. -
Obviously

Why not acknowledge the fact the cap situation is of their own creation? It’s not like Beane is dealing w dead cap from a former GM, this mess is his.

NFL Head Coaches who also were their teams defensive play callers:
DCofNC replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Look below you will currently find 4 of the people you speak of. -
Your last line is my biggest concern, IF the line is better, then you have the extra split second to work with. We don’t know that it’s better, we can hope a rookie and a mid-level guard make it all better, but it’s no guarantee of anything. I don’t want to see a massive downgrade at a known point to hope for an upgrade with a couple of unknowns and we still have no clue how RT is going to play out. Diggs may be a Diva, but he’s a top 5 WR, they don’t grow on trees. I do think Allen will elevate whoever they put out there, but the whole team’s success can’t be pinned solely on Allen, again.

The only way would be for him to add years to his deal, void or not, to get back to a comparable number of what he’s counting against this years cap. The restructure was a really bad move if he gets traded. That said, if they got decent compensation for him, because it’s after June 1, the dead cap hit sucks some this year (ok a lot), BUT it could be squeezed in if you get creative. His cap his is insane next year anyway, so the 2nd half of it is t actually that prohibitive. If they got him to add 2 years of voidable time to his deal, they could thin it out to about a 10M loss (vs what he’s taking up now anyway). Then next year still sucks, but it hurts less now. The big thing is, you basically are throwing in the towel if you trade him, they don’t have enough on offense now, so they would have to bring a player back for him and work out a contract that makes their cap hit this year negligible. In order for all of that to happen they are going to have to take way less in talent to get any team to take it on. Although, his base salary is almost minimum, so a team could eat part of whatever they send back, by converting that salary to bonus and making the cap hit work for Buffalo. Lots to make happen and the only way I could see it happening is for a last year of a contract guy like Higgins who is going to cost more than a team wants to spend next season, but still, not going to be great to take on Steph’s base etc going forward. I can’t see it happening. Would be really bummed if that’s what it comes to.

Bills promote Eric Washington to assistant head coach
DCofNC replied to elroy16's topic in The Stadium Wall
Knowing the NFL, they are going to do a fluff piece for the start of the season to show how much more “inclusive” they got and needed some extra promotions to talk about. If you see more of these it will be all to obvious. -
Speaking of media, here's exhibit A of a lazy, bad trend.
DCofNC replied to Beck Water's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is the real truth to it, there’s no accountability, nor shame. Get ratings, get paid. Wait for the truth and you are fired because there are 37 others who already wrote their own version of the story and it doesn’t matter if it was right or wrong as long as it was first and got clicks. -
That’s entirely too logical of an argument 😂 I couldn’t agree more. Everyone is chasing the Chiefs till they beat them, the Bills have their regular season number and it appeared like they could do it in the playoffs until the blunder of the decade. The Bengals dismantled the Bills in the playoffs, now there’s drama around the team, it all makes it easy to drop them off the radar / point out flaws. To be completely fair, the coaching has been suspect in big moments. Now we are banking on McDermott to not only be the head coach, which he seemed to lack control of the game in those big moments, but to call the defense too. That’s a lot. Not many guys pull it off, those that do are considered legends and that’s not where he’s ranked at the moment. The skepticism is warranted and fair at this point in time. To be brutally honest, the lack of draft success is what’s really pinning Beane in a corner. You can’t continue to fill the big roles with high dollar FAs and expect to have any money left. Right now, the only premium position on the roster the Bills aren’t paying too dollar to is left Tackle. You are paying to end of the market (at least when they signed) for QB, WR, DE, CB, and even Center. They have some reasonable, but fairly high priced guys at Saftey, LB, TE and DT w Oliver as well. They are officially painted into a corner at WR, they have to spend big or rely on a rookie for WR 2 (with the Diggs drama, maybe WR 1 as well) next year. There’s still a lot of question about the OL and the DL which is absurdly over paid, has underperformed in a proportional fashion. There’s a lot of reason to doubt and not much performance wise that says this team is on the right path. This is starting to take the shape of the Whaley roster, with Josh Allen at QB, not for nothing, that roster made the playoffs with Tyrod at the helm, so it’s not that it can’t be “good enough” but we all knew that team was never going to win it all. I think if you are honest with yourself, you can see we are not a lot different at this point than the year before Whaley got fired. There’s a lot of fat to trim and not a ton of top end talent, nor really much talent at all at the skill positions.
