Final result of the Marcel Dareus trade for Buffalo:
hjnick replied to warrior9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Damn, Beane is playing 5D chess against these other GM's. -
More 5th year players contracts not picked up
hjnick replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jags being Jags... ??? They try and trade Forunette, won't take whatever they can get for him... and still decline his 5th year option... What a bunch of Jags... ? -
Carruci: Bills not pursuing Cam Newton
hjnick replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's true, he might not be a quiet as a backup. IMO, Newton is purely a 'try to trade during the season pickup'. He is not the future in Buffalo. If he wants to pass up 5-7MIL and stay in the NFL, that's his prerogative. But he could be making some money while he is waiting for a starting job to open up. In fact, you can tell Newton, 'Hey, if a starting QB spot opens up during the season, we will try and trade you there'. -
Wasn't Green Bay 12-4 last year? If Rodger's isn't Lafleur's type of QB, what kind of QB is he looking for? thx

Carruci: Bills not pursuing Cam Newton
hjnick replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, let's assume Beane wants to bring him in as a backup... with the hope to move him during the year. 1) Talk with Josh Allen. Tell him you are bringing him ONLY as a backup and that he is the #1 QB. If he says NO, then drop it all. 2) When Josh says 'ok', try and sign Newton to a 1 year backup deal of around 5-7MIL. 3) Hold on to him and when someone loses a starting QB, try and trade him to that team. Maybe we can get a 3rd out of him. If not, then we have a good backup for this coming year. -
Beane and McDermott still meet with Bills legends
hjnick replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For me, this hits multiple fronts. 1) Even though it was 25 years ago, the players and coaches can gleam some insights as to what it took to go to the super bowl 4 times in a row. A huge accomplishment. 2) Culture. It shows that the organization does not forget about you (at least the great ones) and that they want you to remain in the Bills culture even after you playing days are done. 3) Player retention. IMO, players are always looking for reasons to move on or stay at organizations (besides $$$). Some players actually care about the environment they are in. If you can provide a top notch environment, where the organization shows they care about their players during and after their careers, that one thing could be the tipping point to retaining a player. -
Nothing to See, Here .. Move Along (Brady/Leftwich Cleared)
hjnick replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard... Aren't these guys professionals??? Can't they go and talk to their OC whenever they want? If someone wants to work more than someone else, why are they trying to stop that? NFL is dumb. -
Opinions on a hypothetical trade

PHI Eagles projected to be $40+M over the cap in 2021
hjnick replied to Mango's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
philly's secondary has been a dumpster fire the last 2 years. Because of cap constraints they couldn't pick up anyone that would demand any salary. They signed ppl off the practice squad and the street to fill positions... Not sure that is good roster management. -
The only pick I would change is the 6th round Kicker. I would have drafted the Punter Mann instead. Dude is a beast punting the ball.

Great analysis and writeup... Couple of things: 1) RBs better get used to having more competition constantly. I'm hoping that Beane drafts a RB in every draft and creates a whole stable of RBs to run. Play the best one and if they need a breather, bring in the second one. We need to keep fresh young legs in the backfield... 2) IMO, Fromm was a good pick. He looks like he can be a more than adequate backup in the NFL. Also, (I'm not hoping this) if Josh Allen doesn't work out like we all hope he does, we will have a QB with 2 years of experience under his belt and we can put in if needed. I think this is a good backup insurance policy at QB. 3) What I like about our WRs is they were their teams #1 receiver (UCF and Oregon State). So they got the other teams best CB every week. Look at the production these guys produced for their teams. I'm not saying they will do the same in the NFL, but I feel pretty confident they will compete for WR spots 4,5,6.

Free Agency News and Updates - around the league
hjnick replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the dude wants to come in for a league min veteran contract, sure, he can fight for a spot... -
Beane got recruits for EDGE, RB, WR X 2, CB, QB, and Kicker. The only pick what I was like wut was the Kicker. I was hoping he would have drafted the Punter Mann there... Other than that, the picks filled needs IMO. Grade for me is incomplete. We will need to see how many make the team and how well they play this year...

Let me say this up front, I really really like Beane and McDermott. I want them to be here for a while. I love Beane's philosophy on how to build this team and we'll see how he maintains it as Josh Allen gets his new contract. OK, the one thing that really bothers me is that most of the free agents / players coming to the Bills are coming from the Panthers, which is where he was prior to being our GM. He is using his inside knowledge on those players and if they are worth bringing here. I just worry about in a couple of years when he cannot use Carolina players as his personal free agent store (because those will be players he won't know well) and he needs to start evaluating and pulling more FA's from other teams. That is my only real concern. Beane has done a wonderful job with the roster, getting 'extra' players and trading them during training camp, the drafts have been pretty good. Is he perfect? No, but he is working hard for us.
-
I think Beane lost most of his latitude in this draft when he traded for Diggs. We couldn't move around in the 2nd unless we would give up our 3rd or 4th round pick... which we don't want. Now in Round 4, Beane might move around 1 time.

RD 3, Pick 86: RB Zach Moss, University of Utah
hjnick replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like the pick. There was a big run on RB's in round 2 and early round 3 which left the cupboard pretty bare at RB except for Moss. That's why Beane was sweating. I really wanted WR Edwards from South Carolina here, but the damn Raiders took him about 5 picks earlier. Interesting how some teams have taken multiple WR's here in the early rounds... I'm surprised how early the BC RB went (Dillon)... in the 2nd. DE, RB check, check. Now let's get a WR, CB. -
I think you are reading more into what I said. Of course condolences to Dak and his family. I wasn't trying to be funny or sarcastic. I live in the DFW Texas area. I hear alot of Cowboys news. Dak had a 'party' with a number of people at his house including Zeke. 1) Wouldn't it be tragic IF his brother died because of COVID? 2) Wouldn't be even MORE tragic that his brother was at a party he hosted, got COVID there and died? Sorry for my brevity on my previous post.

RD 2, Pick 54: DE AJ Epenesa, University of Iowa
hjnick replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was really hoping we would take Denzel Mims here, but hopefully AJ turns into a great DE. We needed an EDGE. He looks big and strong, so he will be able to stand up at the point of attack I think. Beane being Beane. ? -
Hopefully it wasn't COVID related.

Texans sign Laremy Tunsil to huge extension
hjnick replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
22Mil/yr... only 3 years long? What was the highest OT contract before this one??? Wasn't it 15 MIL/yr?
