Beane's salary cap management
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2023. Allen has to sign an extension. Cap hit for 21 and 22 will not be affected that much. Stills isn't on the team -
Beane's salary cap management

Good post. It all changes when Allen's extension kicks in though. -
Vernon Butler takes pay cut

Good move. Now cut Addison and get younger on the DL -
Looks like John Brown was released
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Still would have preferred a new deal for Brown with a pay cut. Hopefully they use this money to bring back Williams and get a pass rusher -
It’s a testament to Marv to get the team to keep coming back. But it was a weak AFC and he was out coached by Parcells and Belichick in the most important game of his career. Washington was too physically dominant to compete against even with an average QB. Dallas could have been beaten the second game. Bills had half-time lead but played scared and choked.

Go get this guy!!! (Kyle Long returning)
Ethan in Cleveland replied to glazeduck's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't he still under control of the Bears? -
Exaclty. Beane made him highest paid center in the league and he was rated somewhere between 5 and 15 depending on the source. That is the nature of free agency where you overpay when there is high demand. He's an average center and overpaid. But it would be another big hole to fill if you cut him. Beane did well to get him to take a pay cut. Kudos to him

What are the chances we resign Milano?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Less than 10%. He may find the market is far less than he thinks it will be. There are only a handful of teams with cap space. He might end up coming back on a 1 yr deal -
It is. I was going off the initial reports that it was a straight extension. The $7.5M bonus would be money that would need to be prorated and would affect dead cap space if he was cut. They can't spend money everywhere. The cap will go back up for 2022 season and Josh's extension won't hit until 2023 so it's possible to keep two fairly expensive safeties and a top dollar CB in 2022. Star and Hughes and a few others will be off the books by 2022. I don't see them drafting a safety early this year - maybe a low round guy that has some return ability. But I can see a safety in 2022 in the first three rounds.

I was speaking solely in terms of cap effect. I like Hyde as a player and I edited my post to clarify that.. In terms of this year's cap and his security, there is no bonus money so he can be let go with no dead cap hit. If he plays well enough to justify his salary figure then they can keep him. If he doesn't they can cut him with no dead money on their books.
-
This is a good but in a way a meaningless move. Its really just a gesture by the Bills. There is no up front bonus money and therefore no cap effect now or in the future. Meaning they can cut him after next year with no dead money hit in the future. So there really is not a lot of added security for Hyde. All it really does is lock in his salary figure for the next three years. I like Hyde as a player and I did not see any drop off in his play last year. That said, I still would not be shocked if either Poyer or Hyde is let go after 2021 and is replaced by a draft pick cheaper option.

Marc Sessler "one fit for each afc team"
Ethan in Cleveland replied to the_D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Only makes sense to go after Thuney in two scenarios. 1. They bring back Williams, cut Morse, and move Feliciano to C 2. They let Williams walk and plan to move Ford back to RT -
What About Watson for Jag's No. 1 Pick?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't think it will happen but its not a bad idea. Watson is a young proven commodity. Nobody knows if Lawrence eventually be a star. But the conventional wisdom is he is a great prospect that they will have on a cheap contract for several years. If they are wrong they have screwed themselves for another four years. -
You think Mahommes is threatened by the emergence of Josh? Based on what? It's a good thing Brady and Allen are white, otherwise their competitiveness will be misconstrued as ego, bravado, and being unable to control their emotions.

Bills submit rule proposal change on interviews
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you are saying the Bills lost because Daboll and Frazier were preoccupied? It just doesn't make sense. My point was, wouldn't they have been preoccupied when they played the Colts and Ravens and won. The Bills were injured, the Chiefs played better, the refs let the Chiefs manhandle our receivers, and the lack of pass rush cost them dearly. The loss had nothing to do with Daboll and Frazier being HC candidates. All that said, I think they should not allow any coach or front office movement until after the SB. -
Gabe Jackson to be released

Eagles submit rules change to onside kick
Ethan in Cleveland replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How about if you recover an onside kick you automatically get 3 points and the ball. Then the losing team has a real fighting chance!
