  1. Folks who don't understand how it all works should read this article on Mahomes. https://dknation.draftkings.com/2021/1/17/22236316/patrick-mahomes-injury-nfl-concussion-protocol-explained-return-2021-afc-championship-game-vs-bills The league has a five-step process for a player who has suffered a concussion. It involves ramping up from rest and recovery through to full football activity clearance. Here are the five steps as mandated by the NFL’s Head, Neck and Spine Committee. Rest and recovery: The player is prescribed rest until his signs and symptoms and neurologic examination, including cognitive and balance tests, return to baseline status. Light aerobic exercise: Under direct oversight of the team’s medical staff, the player should begin graduated cardiovascular exercise and may also engage in dynamic stretching and balance training. Continued aerobic exercise and introduction of strength training: The player continues with supervised cardiovascular exercises that are increased and may mimic sport-specific activities, and supervised strength training is introduced. Football specific activities: The player continues cardiovascular, strength and balance training and participates in non-contact football activities (e.g. throwing, catching, running, and other position-specific activities). Full football activity/clearance: Upon clearance by the Team Physician for full football activity involving contact, the player must be examined by the Independent Neurological Consultant (INC) assigned to his Club. If the INC concurs with the team physician that the player’s concussion has resolved, he may participate in his Club’s next practice or game.
  2. It makes sense to prepare comprehensively for Mahomes, with a little bit of side work for Henne. Assume Mahomes goes. If and when he doesn't, switch to Plan B with Henne, even if based on little prep time. If Henne goes, we win the game, period.
  3. I think this is how I feel about it too. Plus, having already gone through this with the Boston Red Sox, I can tell you that you will forever be changed as a Bills fan once we do win a Super Bowl. Those bad years that follow (in the OP's scenario) will be very easy to take when you can say "we won it all". Once is enough, basically. It's way different than "NEVER".
  4. How about everyone joking about how KC has no concern for Mahomes' health and will rig the protocol to get him back on the field? It's just as stupid.
  5. I've seen this sentiment offered several times around this forum tonight, and I totally disagree with it. Educate yourself. He has to be cleared by an independent physician and if the system is rigged, why not put him back in the game today after he got knocked out of it? Come on man. No.
  6. Mahomes never banged his head onto the turf, but his head violently decelerated in a jerking motion. That has to be when the damage was sustained. I had a colleague many years ago who said he got so many concussions growing up playing hockey, he could give himself one simply by jerking his head forward (and not hitting anything). All you need is enough inertia to slam your brain around inside your skull.
  7. Where are you reading 10 days? Sports medicine researchers at Henry Ford evaluated data from the 2012-2015 seasons and found that players who sustained a concussion returned to play on average 19 days later. That’s the equivalent of missing about 1 ½ games. Folks are googling the issue and finding this article with the 19 day number. Is the 10 day number from a newer or more comprehensive study? https://www.newswise.com/articles/return-to-play-after-a-concussion-is-19-days
  8. What's your point? Folks were pissing on the KC fanbase and I just thought I'd point out its one of the strongest in the country. Don't be such a little person.
  9. Mahomes suffered a head cranial concussion Grade 1 on November 1, 2014. He suffered another Grade 1 concussion in the game today. https://sportsinjurypredictor.com/player/patrick-mahomes/7746 We do know the more you get, the more easily you can get them and the greater the likelihood of getting another as well.
  10. KC has one of the strongest fanbases in the country.
  11. That's idiotic, though I know a bunch of other folks here will feel the way you do too. Don't forget, we still are going to have to figure out a way to beat Rodgers or Brees in the Super Bowl! Any break we can catch along the way is welcome.
  12. There is no way to judge how quickly he will recover based on what happened today in the game. There is no way to know if he will suffer a relapse in the Bills game based on what happened today either.
  13. I was wondering what others thought about the concussion so I dug this up in the game day thread. This is my theory as well. He just had a lot of sudden deceleration of his head which was sufficient to cause the concussion, despite the fact his head never hit the turf. Years ago I had a colleague who mentioned that he had received so many concussions playing hockey as a kid growing up that he could just quickly jerk his head forward and give himself a concussion! True story. I think that's what happened to Mahomes. He was pretty wobbly from the concussion. I don't think you can draw any conclusions about how quickly he will return based on what happened. This stuff can be quirky and recovery can vary a lot from incident to incident. The fact that he looked pretty woozy doesn't mean his recovery time will be longer or shorter.
  14. The funny thing is that with electronic ticketless entry, it is going to be harder for those who really were there to prove it in years to come! Maybe they handed out some sort of commemorative _______ at the game last night?
  15. I'm sure it varies from player to player. A whole bunch of them, for sure, were watching and cheering like fans for the team. No doubt about that.
  16. A huge component of our fan base seems to *need* to feel like we are totally disrespected by everyone, all the time. Oh, and the refs are all out to screw us (and only us) in every game we play. I'm sure the fans around the league feel the same way about their team too.
  17. I was thinking about this last night after the win against Baltimore. This season is already a solid success. We beat NE twice and won the division, earned 2 home playoff games (maybe more) and won them both. That's a great season. The franchise has taken an organizational step forward and it doesn't feel like we will take another backward after this. We're establishing a new baseline where playoff wins are to be expected for as long as Josh is around and playing well. If we do end up playing KC, a solid showing is all I ask for! I feel like it's all gravy going forward.
  18. Well this is cool. You got to participate in what is probably going to become a special part in Buffalo sports history, kind of like the comeback game. What did the WIND feel like during the game, just as far as being a fan in the stands? Did it seem strong all the time? Just gusty now and again? If you (or anyone reading this) has any phone video clips of the crowd, please post. I'd love to see them.
  19. A better statement would have been "This team is extremely close" which certainly seems true. To suggest they are unique to the NFL is ridiculous. I'm not sure how a fan watching on TV would go about evaluating "closeness" of all NFL rosters in any event. The entire thing is an exercise in bias. LOL The board is rife with this sort of thing right now. And I guess with good reason. This is as good as it's been in over 25 years!
  20. This remains my favorite thing from the season....SO FAR!
  21. No way in the world Allen wins MVP. Doesn't mean he isn't OUR MVP! He quite clearly is. Also, Brees and Brady are a long way from being finished. Rodgers put on a Master class yesterday.
  22. It's funny, but the image that has stuck in my mind over the years from our four failed Super Bowl campaigns is that clip of Bruce talking into the camera saying "We goin' to the Show, baby! We goin' to the Show!" And of course, that image has haunted me over the years as we never did anything but lose and embarrass ourselves while at the Show. I'm not a fan of this sort of forward looking stuff! Don't count your chickens before they've hatched.
  23. Just want to say I am the only person here (I think) who called this, a long way back! Your post was poorly written though. You were kind of on both sides of the fence. It is funny to watch everyone jump all over you; the pack mentality here and the need to follow is strong at this forum.
  24. Your original post is horribly constructed. Why don't you go back and clarify it so this entire thread doesn't turn into more garbage? Edit it to say "earn the right to play in the Super Bowl" or something like that. 🙄
