Is the Bills approach to injuries too conservative?
Nextmanup replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is a great post! I can assure you a few of us here think like you do, but not many. It took me a while to figure out that most people here employ a "religious" type of thinking when it comes to their fandom. I.E., they are willing to exchange the truth for that which feels good, as is necessary. They aren't here to learn the truth; they are here to feel good and support their already held views on things, which they prefer, because they make them feel good. We are at a point as a nation where a sizable contingent of the country feels this way about lots more than football. It's terrifying. -
Is the Bills approach to injuries too conservative?
Nextmanup replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
See the other thread discussing Benford's broken bone in his hand ! I don't know if we are too conservative, but it doesn't seem that way to me. If guys are injured, they can't play! It's kind of that simple. -
Yeah but they may not have even known he had the fracture when he was playing. It will be a few more days before we know anything substantive here, I bet.
-
I bet he is out a good several games....Jesus.
-
SO do we have a timeline? Will he be able to play with the fracture? I can't believe how utterly banged up we are right now.
-
What they are doing seems kind of old school and bush league to me in the year 2022, and yet I think they should be allowed to do it. BUT by the same token, away teams should ABSOLUTELY be allowed to play the same game on their own terms as well. By that, I mean erecting fence/roof structures that place the bench in total shade for the duration of the game. We already flew in big expensive air conditioned benches for the game...I have no idea why we can't put in shade-creating structures as well.... And we obviously need to do something better about hydration. But get some shade-creating structures on the sideline down there next year! WTF?

Poor coaching by McDermott is becoming a theme

I just linked to this article in another thread. It's a good read if you haven't read it yet: "BILLS HAVE A COMPOSURE PROBLEM" (Takes some hard but fair shots at Bills coaching during the current administration)... https://www.audacy.com/wgr550/sports/bills/geary-bills-have-a-composure-problem -
Cowherd killing Bills coaching in his monologue
Nextmanup replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills in-game coaching is average to below average. Fans here will be the last people on Earth to acknowledge this, but so what? Here's a good read, see what you think: "BILLS HAVE A COMPOSURE PROBLEM" https://www.audacy.com/wgr550/sports/bills/geary-bills-have-a-composure-problem -
Regarding the Davis TD catch/drop... Does he not have to catch the ball, establish control, get 2 feet inbounds, and then "make a football move" or whatever the hell they call it now for the catch to be converted from a receiver trying to catch the ball to a player with possession in the end zone??? It looked to me like he had control, got 2 feet in, but then was sort of protecting the ball and turning to complete a "football move" and in that action, lost the ball. I'm not an expert on how these things are calculated, but it looked to me like a ref consultant in the broadcast booth would have said he didn't make the football move and so it was an incompletion. They should have asked what's his name in the booth; he knows all the tests for determining these things and would probably have given an accurate answer in about 3 seconds. Josh's arm definitely completed a defined throwing forward motion, but the ball was already gone! The ball was flying through the air before Josh ever started his throwing motion; I think that one was definitely a fumble and would have been confirmed as such on review.

Tygod suing the doctor who hastened Herbert’s ascension

I used to play pickup hockey 2 nights a week with a bunch of guys/friends. We varied from good high school players currently playing in high school to college aged, to "ex hockey players" in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and a few in their 50s... Kind of a motley crew but no one was out to hurt each other, we were just having fun and getting exercise. One guy from our little crew back then was probably in his late 20s, and had actually played junior hockey, but for whatever reason never pursued pro hockey further than that. Maybe he sort of washed out of competitive hockey at that level. Not sure! The point is this guy was so much better than all of us in every single way it was kind of funny. His skating, his speed, his slap shot, he looked like a bad (LOL) pro hockey player out there. His slap shot was like 30% harder than anyone on the ice. We ALL used to praise him constantly and tell him he should be playing for the Rochester Americans and not goofing around with us at Lincoln Park... Long story but I know what you mean when you say the worst guy in the league on an NFL practice squad is, of course, one hell of an athlete. Think of the amazing athletes in big time college football who never get a sniff of the NFL or a practice squad! -
I was watching the ref spot the ball and rush out of the way of the center and OL and thought he was doing a pretty solid job of quickly his job and then getting the heck out of the way. There may have been some slowness leading up to that somewhere... But this loss has nothing to do with how quick the ball was spotted! We greatly outplayed Miami all day long, just didn't convert that into points. If we had, we could have won in any one of a bunch of different ways, by different scores.

He's below average, using measurable objective criteria, as a game-day coach... I think you are focusing on big picture stuff. Like he figured out which poisonous players to get rid of, he knows what types of players he likes, he gets everyone going in the same direction, he seems to motivate well, he gets players to want to play for each other....all that stuff. He's a great franchise builder. I don't know why he can't remain that guy as the head coach, but someone (quite frankly) a lot smarter can't be the "Field General" who dictates tactics during games. Things like challenges should have NOTHING to do with the head coach. He is no position to make those calls and he's not a review specialist...he's too busy building a football franchise. In the years ahead, I think we will see a more sophisticated breakdown of power on the sidelines. The thing I get a kick out of is watching the head coach (as though he doesn't have enough to worry about during a game) yell at sideline officials...like that is also supposed to be his job--work the refs to try and get a better call next time. It's so old fashioned and stupid....I hope it changes. -
No one can rationalize better than a Bills fan. I mean we are talking world class ability to rationalize any situation. Next we will hear that it was actually a good thing that we lost.

John Murphy should have never gotten the job in the first place! He's been terrible his entire career, but he was somehow gifted the job by virtue of working in the booth in the old Van Miller days. At the end of the game, he addressed that play you referenced---saying he thought it was clearly in the receiver's hands, but it bounced off the ground to get there. He must have known how terrible the original play call sounded, so he was sort of making up for it. I can't get over how long of a delay he leaves in his calls...sometimes it's so long, Eric Wood says what happens before Murphy does. Murphy: "Allen throws to the end zooooonnnnneeeeee........[long pause]........[long pause]......(Eric Wood jumps in with "it's a TD")......YES TOUCHDOWN BILLS!! TOUCHDOWN BILLS!" Stuff like that....he's brutal.

I live in SE FL and I know what it's like too...but there was something weird going on in the game today. We seemed unusually impacted by the heat, even though this was just a normal day of weather for September, and we play a game down here every September. I just don't remember us having this many problems.

What a garbage football game and what garbage teams. I do love the final score; seems fitting for the game.

This game exposed we rely to much on Josh again
Nextmanup replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Even with a loss there, we don't have to panic! There's a long way to go. I'm not sure our injury problems will be resolved in Baltimore. We know Hyde won't be there, or Tre! But they are a different team than Miami with their own strengths and weaknesses. -
We don't have the mentality to win close games
Nextmanup replied to UKBillFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Don't forget, it was close on the scoreboard, but nowhere NEAR close in the stat line. We were unusually inefficient at converting raw offense into points, that's the only reason the scoreboard was as close as it was. If we were fully healthy, it's fair to assume a different outcome. I realize the scoreboard is what counts, but this game was not nearly as close as the score suggests. -
Joshua Allen Sexually Assaulted by Dolphin

In a post-game interview, Wilkins said: "Josh is a competitor. I'm a competitor. We're going back and forth. That's how it is with division rivals. With alpha males, that's how it goes." Hey fat-ass, you're not an alpha male; you're a closeted homosexual. Come to grips with it (sorry, had to do it) and be at peace with yourself. -
The comment is about the general situation, not just today in Miami.

Nice punt and great bounce. This game is kind of like watching paint dry, and I've only been seriously watching for the last 10 minutes or so.

Poor coaching by McDermott is becoming a theme
Nextmanup replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
A very consistent theme of McDermott's is his love of pissing away timeouts in situations where he (and only he) thinks it's important to burn a TO. He does this all the time and has done this since the beginning. It's one of his many "in game tactician" flaws. Note how Bill Belichick ALWAYS finds a way to hang onto all 3 of his TOs for crunch time when he needs them. -
He dinged up a finger throwing and hitting his hand some someone's equipment just before that. But I don't see the need to blame the throw on something than Josh simply making a bad throw; he mad a bunch of them today. He's done that exact "throw it in the dirt at the receiver's feet" in the past. He wasn't set up right and his footwork was terrible.
