Has the light finally gone on for Zay Jones?
Bing Bong replied to KOKO NFL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I only worry about his hands. Was excited to have a hands guy and he seems far from it. If he can't corall the Allan fastball like he did from some softball quarterback at ECU for all them receptions maybe we misidentified our "hands" role WR. -
Has the light finally gone on for Zay Jones?

I'm not, I just fell back in love with Woods as I posted haha (almost triggered at the contract he got and we didn't match in retrospect as well). All I ask is Zay keeps improving a la Woods like you said, and finds other ways to contribute as the best #2s and #3s should.. as Woods did as well When his contract comes up I hope he's at a similar juncture as Woods was. Not spectacular, but with steady improvement to merit a steal of a contract going forward (and we actually re-sign a drafted WR for the first time in forever!) -
Brady says he plans to play in 2019 and beyond...
Bing Bong replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good. He's losing it. I hope his ego makes him playing so long both he and the Pats regret it. His last few performances against the Bills show our secondary is the perfect poison for the new version of Brady. We also oughta send a few blitzes on him as he's struggling against those for the first time in his career. Makes sense if you go by Warren Moon's statement that the legs go first and Brady's reaction and ability to step quickly on quick outs is going. Only problem I see going here is if Patriots make a big effort to beef up the OL with Michel, retool on those cheap and available WRs Brady loves. Brady with a dominant rush and OL is something we've never seen and i"'ll be pissed if we have an Elway Terrel Davis situation developing -

Woods has always improved every year, sometimes dramatically, earlier more in increments.. not that he ever started out in question poorly either. Even if he didn't put up gaudy stats he was well respected by us in year 2 as well as in NFL circles. Not to mention he has dramatically increased his play to the point of borderline no 1 status. So not to take away from Zay from your point I'm fine with him incrementally improving (and maybe we keep a good WR we drafted for once if he ends up there!).. and I hope he can be close to Wood's constant improvement in the passing game.. and hopefully see how some of that aggression and gut over the middle and in blocking can make him a better football player. Even with Zay having comparable #s I don't think the NFL regards him nearly as high as they did Woods at this point in their careers. But Woods was a different animal. He played with that football aggression you love to see in WR2s.. reminds me of Juju really. And the NFL saw that outside the numbers, and paid him for more than his WR stats.. which I think the Bills should have recognized in him and kept if that was on the table. I didn't think he was worth the money at the time but I think that contract he got is a bargain in retrospect. WRs with that sort of aggression can pay dividends. Dude draws comparisons to TO and Hines Ward in his on field effort. Not nearly as talented as TO, not many are, but I do like the less-dirty-Ward comp. Eventually those guys are gonna get recognize for giving every play full effort. I don't see it in Zay, but a Woods comparison is unfair to say now. Nice to see he has similar numbers this far albeit in more suitable WR circumstances as an informal no1. I just think Tyrod had a love affair with his speed guys in Watkins and Goodwin.. for good reason, and likely recognized Woods' different playstyle too late in that Seahawks game where Woods showed he could do much more damage in the passing game than he was getting the opportunities for in the better part of his career. I love woods in retrospect lol.. didn't really mean to go on a tangent about him but I miss the heck out of him and could see him becoming really special for the Rams or elsewhere if he keeps this up.. especially if handed the keys to a No1 spot somewhere. Hines Ward 2.0. -
It's an article pointing out some stats that I figured were true so.. no comment lol. I'll defer to the article's points and agree with the contents. Apologies for the cold take everyone. I'll suppose I'll note that Allen may be inaccurate at times, but the fact that he seems to be consistently seeing and attempting to hit the right open read downfield, accurately or inaccurately, is at least refreshing (as the article points out lol) Many of his 1st half performances (and a couple of entire games) are what confuse some that are ignoring stats and pointing to a few 4th quarter heroics and dropped balls. He starts out very poorly in some games.. like the Lions, in which we eventually won and swept all the problems quarters 1-3 under the rug. Stats matter. They tell us several missed plays on the field we otherwise ignore after a good 4th quarter.

I don't believe in the 3 year plan happening in '19
Bing Bong replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's virtually impossible the way I see all the improvements necessary. I don't trust the process . But I want to see it succeed and I'm happy with our quarterback for the 2nd time in the drought since Tyrod's first year. All I'm asking for is a marked improvement. Not necessarily in record. But stopping these blowouts and playing good teams at least competitively.. no more games where we leave the first half with virtually no chance of winning and the opponent clearly cruising the rest of the game. Beating the bad teams, more convincing wins. I didn't want a long rebuld nor thought over 3 years was necessary.. but this is the brain trust we're rolling with so barring absolutely no improvement with what we have to go with this off-season ( which would give me serious doubts this regime can do anything with all that they've torn down) I'm okay with a 4 to 5 year plan. It sucks.. but I'll just have to hope for improvement EVERY year. That's what we should be banking on and give no more excuses if that's not happening. -
EJ Manuel: What went wrong after year 1?
Bing Bong replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not dramatically more skilled, I agree. I think the difference is intangibles. BTW both EJ and JA are dramatically more skilled QBs than Tebow haha, idc who the better athlete of the 3 is. JA has much better intangibles so far. And by that I mean confidence in his talent on the field more-so than effort / film study / off field habits, etc. which EJ was fine at. The difference I see is on-field intangibles. But to the OP's point.. he's gotta improve from this year whereas EJ didn't. It's going to hurt him career wise especially if he doesn't improve with better supporting talent. I mean stats DO matter at some point let's be real here. Bad stats over a long enough sample size are an indicator that all strengths you see on the eye test don't mean a hill of beans compared to any weaknesses you perceive as inconsequential. At some point bad career stats in a quarterback can be pointed to something as a major flaw.. be it poor touch on passes, bad decisions on interceptions, attempting too much hero ball. Dude's gotta kill the Lions convincingly the way both teams played in the future. Dolphins, Jets, Patriots: stop having poor 2nd quarter performances. -

Ironically. The game that probably killed his career, Jags in London.. his second half performance was amazing to me. That throw to Robert Woods in particular. First half was definitely a case of the yips, and I always imagined the 2nd half was "I've screwed up so bad, this game / my near end to my career can't get any worse. I don't care anymore I'm just going to have to play the best possible performance I have" and EJ on a good day with no nerves was always the best version of EJ. Ya just can't have that in quarterbacks. Almost everyday has to be a no nerves best version of yourself if you're quarterback. Toughest mental position in sports. -

That's true. But he was gifted our best Bills team in ages. I would never sacrifice a good team for a rookie quarterback who can only thrive under a no pressure 6-10 season of development like Allen basically played with. Totally with Marrone here if that's your take. Rookie quarterback needs to learn what it takes to win above all. Steelers would have been nuts to have Big Ben have a no-pressure pick happy season with the team around him. Instead he learned how to win and was all the more confident too. Same with Brady. These guys were young game managers that benefitted from their early success piggybacking on great teams before they eventually were handed the ropes to "win or lose on their own" On a bad team I'd agree with you. On the 2014 Bills.. Heck no! We were good QB play away from being a legit playoff team. -

We pounded this point home with Tyrod not getting production from his WRs when we justified booting him. "He regressed every year" his WRs got worse every year. The receivers he had last year were garbage compared to even now. We cut 80% of those guys that weren't even good enough for Allen's crappy WR corps. "They'd do better with a quarterback that can throw people because WRs get production out of good quarterbacks." yes.. with a great QB AND A TRUE #1 MAYBE A SOLID #2.. duh some lesser WRs are going to be matched up against lesser corners, not game planned for, and will get better production from quarterbacks that can and are allowed to spread the ball around. Just saying we made these quoted points for Tyrod. Not that he showed enough in his tenure. But some consistency in team building philosophy would be nice. Tyrod was a godsend when he came to supplant EJ with the wealth of WR talent he had when he showed up (when healthy).. As are most quarterbacks that belong in this league. His regression should have been clearly apparent to be correlated with the WRs he gradually lost over his tenure. And that should have made this FO a little more aware of the absolute lack of receiving talent we had in store for JA. -

That's his best quality. Since the Miami throw to Clay I've been throwing the Brett Favre (who also lacked touch in his throws early on) with wheels comparison.. since these are the types of throws and risks nobody in their right mind makes but have the arm and gumption to get away with it. Appears to have the same presence in the huddle (although I seriously doubt he is nearly as funny and can keep the offense as loose as Brett did) He's not Steve Young (really bad comparison), but ideally, best case ontario, he's Favre. CONFIDENT, talented, frustrating, equally rewarding. He's a gunslinger. I make the ceiling at Brett Favre. The floor is being nothing beyond Favre's first Packers year (which is a great improvement from Allen's rookie year regardless, and not bad at all: just likely not enough). -

I'll go on a limb that reminding us this is a rebuilding year and stressing that's why we suck is extremely patronizing. Am I not aware we are trying to get better. Am I not aware we suck. Can I not be critical about this if we don't get better? Merry Christmas! -
What's your excuse when XYZ happens are the best posts. Nice bump

Well the family that will watch with us for sure. Brother brought a Bucks clan, I have my Knicks clan. Fun times.

Who else is watching the Knicks game to have an excuse to ignore their family for 2 blissful peaceful hours??

Can't get worse than Tyrod.. my favorite slogan going into this year. I saw Peterman. I saw us name him the starter. We were about to find out right quick how much worse it can get. Heck we already saw it Chargers game. Can't get worse than Tyrod is the dumbest thing that was said as much as it was I've ever seen around here. It's been far worse before and after. Can't get worse than Peterman ? Maaaaybe I'll buy that. Until McDermott finds another poor kid he has undying faith in to throw into the fire countless times for no reason. -
Omg he wasn't good. He wasn't bad either. Do we want a QB that wasn't good though? You can watch a game a million times and whatever preconception you have before going in and watching it is going to tell you who's at fault every play. He ran a crap offense with crap personnel you don't need to rewatch it.

He brings up good points for civil discourse. It's great we have these things but I'm simply NERVOUS we haven't shown the track record to succeed with all these. I've always maintained next year will be the time for hot takes since all this CAP and high picks we have are the very reason we have optimism. Need to see improvement and will be more than nervous if I don't see it. It's also looks like too long a rebuild given the gaps in our roster, but if that pans so be it. Not my preference but if it takes him that much longer to give us that much more sustained success than awesome. Otherwise we're playing a dangerous game of failing a longer-term rebuild. This isn't outside the realm of possibility. That's what I believe is Neanderthals are nervous about
