The refs we've had through 3 weeks have generally let the teams play. The Bills are averaging 5 penalties per game which is actually very solid, good for the 5th fewest penalties per game. 2 penalties per game by our opponents is ridiculously low. IIRC we declined 4 or even 5 penalties in the Jets game which impacts it a bit. Part of our opponents not being called for penalties is due to game situation. Who's going to call offensive holding on a team that's down by 30 and QB is getting sacked every play ?

How much of that is the DL over-commiting, our O-line steering, or just a great play by Josh ? I think it's a bit of all 3. I thought the Raiders were much better than Washington about staying disciplined and not letting Josh scramble. I'm being critical of our O-line but I'll gladly admit they are much improved over last season. Looks like we've gone from bottom 10 (borderline bottom 5) to somewhere around average. We may even be above average pushing top 10. O-Lines are so bad league wide you have to be happy when they're just not a liability.

46 of those rushing yards were Josh scrambling. 64 of those rushing yards came on our TD drive with 8 minutes left up 30-0. It's important to close out games, but that was 100% garbage time. If we had Howell back there I think he gets sacked 5+ times pretty easy. Josh is a magician

Everyone thought his production was due to playing with Donald. Turns out Floyd is really good in his own right

I thought they were ok today. Run blocking was a pretty big problem. We racked up some stats in garbage time, but really couldn't move the ball on the ground with any consistency until after the game was out of reach. Pass pro was good against a strong pass rush. Helps a lot when your QB can evade pressure and either scramble for a gain or make a pass downfield.

Bills/Commanders Postgame Thread
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Can I B word about the officiating in this thread? I'm still heated about the tripping call on Kincaid and the forward progress ruling on the MacLaurin fumble. They ruled forward progress had stopped when the question on the play is whether the WR had it long off to be a catch and fumble or was it an incompletion that he never had possession of. Washington also got away with a half dozen blatant holds. I guess if you're down 30+ at home just hold on every single play LOL. -
McD much better D coordinator than Frazier
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to TwistofFate's topic in The Stadium Wall
McD has had 3 games this season as defensive playcaller. That's a ridiculously small sample size. The knock against Frazier was that the DEF would disappear in the playoffs and/or against elite offenses. McD has yet to playcall against a top offense or a playoff game so yes, let's wait and see. We allowed the Jets a season high in both points and yards. Allowing 16 points and 289 yards of offense would normally be a fantastic outing. But we were playing the Zach Wilson led Jets. The worst offense in the league. I wouldn't say the defense cost us the game, but they did not play well either. -

I'm not seeing a big difference with the Defense. Under Frazier we would tend to feast on bad offenses/young QBs (other than the Zach Wilson Jets). That's the same pattern so far this year. Let's see how we do against the Dolphins next week and ultimately the playoffs before crowning the McD defense. -
Can James Cook break a tackle, ever?!?!
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall
I thought he started the game quite slow with back to back poor/mediocre runs on our opening 3 and out. It looked like he was benched after that as Murray got the next few series and ran with some VIOLENCE. Then Cook came back in and played great rest of the game. Maybe he needs that fire under his ass -
Deshaun Watson keeping it classy
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it would've been pretty borderline to eject Watson for it. The ref got in his face and Watson grabbed/pulled his arm a bit to move him. Definitely not egregious contact. I know in the past they've had a 0 tolerance policy for touching an official. Not sure if that's still the case. Even if it is, it's one thing to eject some random guy, it's another thing to eject a $230,000,000 QB. I'd expect Watson to be fined for touching an official but would be shocked if he gets suspended. -

I didn't think the facemask penalties were much of anything. He went for a stiff arm and his fingers got caught in the grill. Don't think those would be worth a fine let alone suspension. https://x.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1703965949466915246?s=20 I know the league takes contact with an official pretty seriously, but going so far as to suspend a "star" QB ? I don't think there was enough here for that -
I thought the hit on Kincaid was close to being a penalty, but ultimately a good no-call. Kincaid was a defenseless receiver, but the hitter did not 1) Launch himself 2) Lead with the crown or 3) Make forcible contact to neck/head area Rapp's hit was clearly forcible contact to the head of a defeneseless receiver. Good call and I would expect at least a fine for him. Putting him into protocol should be up to the Raiders and their independent neuro consultant.

It's possible, but unlikely. The problem is that Allen has played exactly like this in multiple games over multiple years. His only diagnosed concussion was 2019 when he got knocked out of the game vs Patriots and was available the next week. If his erratic play was from an un-diagnosed concussion it seems likely that he's had multiple un-diagnosed concussions. While I think that's a possibility I think it's a pretty slim chance.

This was my first time listening to a Joe Marino podcast and I don't think I will again. It's almost all opinion with very little analysis. There's better all-22 analysis done on this board. I don't see the value in someone telling me that Josh is immature, eyes all over the place, bad reads, etc. I want someone to get into the nitty gritty details of specific plays and SHOW me that's what happened.

Rough season opening losses— are we snake bit?
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Miyagi-Do Karate's topic in The Stadium Wall
2021 vs Steelers wasn't a last second loss, but it did have a lot of similarities to last nights game. Including allowing a special teams TD -
Anyone talking about our run D?
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Skyline Chili's topic in The Stadium Wall
Huh.... Giving up an 83 yard run that resulted in a FG didn't cost us a game that went to OT ? Obviously there were many other costly mistakes but everything else being equal without that 83 yard run we win the game. -
There were some positives this game
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cook has a shot at a TD on that play if Allen places a perfect throw, but he was far from open. When did Cook make a defender miss a tackle? At any point during the night ? I'm not blaming him for the negative plays (idk why so many on here give our O-line a pass) but Cook never made a guy miss either. Looked like a JAG out there -

Other than that, how was the play, Mrs Lincoln ? Our run DEF has the very bad habit of giving up huge runs that cost us close games. -
Not an egregious drop, but a catch that is probably made more often than not in the NFL. If Garret Wilson's TD was a 10/10 in difficulty this play by Knox was a 6/10.

What game did you watch ? Cook and the run game were awful. If you told me before the game started that we held the Jets QB to 14/21 for 140 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT i'd be pretty happy. If you told me that QB was Zach Wilson instead of Aaron Rodgers I'd be less than impressed. Agreed that Groot and Floyd looked good. You didn't mention Milano, but he was a monster tonight -

DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cook was clearly on the queue card for Buck/Aikman. He finished with 12 carries for 46 yards and 4 catches for 17 yards. I would guess he finished in negative territory for expected yards giving the blocking. I think it's generous to say he had even a mediocre game. -
So the best game of this career? I kid (sort of)
