Pretty lazy analysis by Simms IMO. No one is going to listen to a podcast where someone talks about how bad Mack Hollins is though. The O-line/receivers share at least partial responsibility on 3 of the 4 plays he highlighted 1) If Allen throws this immediately to Cook he's probably tackled short of the line to gain. By the time Cook is open the pocket has collapsed and Josh is rolling to his right 2) Deep throw to Hollins - we had an entire thread on this. It's not a good throw by Josh, but the average NFL WR still makes that catch 3) 3rd and 13 - Simms says Coleman should've been the target. Josh ultimately rolled out to his right and passed to Kincaid for an easy 1st down, but failed to make a routine catch 4) Deep throw to Kincaid - Simms says it's a bad throw and decision by Josh. I'll agree it's not a good throw, but if Josh put another 6 inches on the throw it's probably a TD so how is that a bad decision? He's supposed to throw it to the guy that has the safety crashing down on him instead?

Rookie WR Separation win-rates thru week 5
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
There's good and bad. Jumping offside as a WR is a head scratcher. So is getting hit in the back of the head with a throw. Showing up late and getting benched for a quarter aint great either. That 4th down catch and run was great though. Some really nice back shoulder catches too -
Josh did say that it was a chest injury. Just like Tua said that he had back spasms after he got up from that Milano hit and was visibly wobbly. 3 diagnosed concussions later and Tua is currently on IR with many advocating for his retirement. These guys are warriors and know what to say to avoid concussion protocol, but (sometimes) at the detriment of their long term health.

I have to strongly disagree on that play. There's almost no chance a pass to Samuel would have moved the chains on 3rd and 13. #23 on the Texans was close enough to make a tackle for a ~5 yard gain. MAYBE a perfectly placed ball AND Samuel showing some burst/elusiveness that we have yet to see from him in a Bills jersey gets it converted. Kincaid had both feet in bounds and bobbled the ball a little bit when he hit the ground OOB. I don't think it would've been overturned either, but it was close. I'd say that a pass to Samuel probably has a 90% completion chance, but 5% chance at a first down. The pass to Kincaid is more like a 75% completion chance, but 100% a first down.

Mini rebuild. Why is anyone that surprised?
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Blackbeard's topic in The Stadium Wall
Donte Stallworth was really underappreciated in his time here. -
Yea it would be really tight to run a play with 11 seconds left. Falcons had 12 seconds left and got a 14 yard pass and spiked with 1 second left on TNF. Why would the Texans have needed 10 yards to make things even? You're just assuming that we get 5 yards on 3 rushes? What if we tried running on 1st down and lost yards for a safety?
-
First: Second: Even if we had run the ball 3x in a row and HOU used all 3 timeouts, we're punting with 20+ seconds left on the clock instead of 16. Everything else being the same the Texans would've had 11 seconds to run a play in the middle of the field and spike it (risky), or a pass to the sideline. Third: Let's say we followed your script and ran the ball 3x and then successfully defended the sideline on the Texans one play..... there's still a good chance Fairbairn makes the 64 yard FG

Did Beane Fail Josh and the fan base?
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
What? Beane was hired to be the Bills GM on 5/9/2017. Josh was drafted on 4/26/2018 (by Beane). I agree with the rest of your post, but its wildly inaccurate to say Beane did not draft Allen. -
Week 5, Bills v. Texans, PREDICT THE SCORE!
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
Texans 31 Bills 20 Offense looks better, but DEF gets torched. Bass misses a FG and PAT before being released as McD's first scapegoat of the season. -
This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. In this last game I noticed McGovern grabbing at his head while on the turf after a play (first play of our 2nd drive), but the broadcast completely missed it and didn't bother showing a replay. Then a few plays later he's taken off the field for concussion protocol. Then there was the huge clusterf* were Mcgovern came back onto the field after clearing protocol but the refs forced him back to the sideline again. Did we ever get an explanation for that?

Joe Marino All-22 review - "The coaches were duds"
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
He was better about this in 2022 and 2023, but he's back to being conservative on 4th down this season. Punting on 4th and 2 from the 48 on our first possession was fairly cowardly. Punting on 4th and 1 from our 39 when we were down 14-3 (and the DEF not even slowing the Ravens down) was mind boggling. -
Josh Allen has lost a step.
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall
Because he hasn't lost a step. The next time Josh gets chased down and caught from behind by a defender this season would be the first. He's playing smarter and sliding more -
Week 4, Bills v. Ravens, PREDICT THE SCORE!
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
McD has really contained Lamar and Henry when we've played them (outside Henry's 20/143/3 game). The Ravens are the leagues biggest choke artists in close games. However, I feel like our DEF has to come back down to reality at some point. With no Milano, Bernard, or T Johnson it's almost unbelievable how well the defense has played the last 2.5 games Ravens need this a lot more than we do and I think they win a shootout 34-31. -
It don't get no better than solid

Why not trade for a dependable kicker?
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Kingston Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
69% FG in his last 17 games. Easily bottom 5. Perhaps dead last. As far as trading him? I doubt any team has a good kicker and is already giving up on their season only 2 weeks in. When's the last time a team traded for a good kicker mid season? Has it ever happened? I could see us cutting Bass during the season and signing a FA off the street (or CFL), but it's slim pickings out there -
Oh boy: Bills worked out 2 Kickers
DabillsDaBillsDaBills replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Designated as a post 6/1 release this season (which he'd have to be) we save 100k against the cap by cutting Bass. We have a little over 4mm in cap space right now so that does leave us enough room to sign a kicker off the street. I'm not convinced York or Carlson are much better, but Bass has been an unacceptable 69% on FG over the last 17 games (regular and post combined). -
Admittedly it's a small sample size, but we're 2 weeks in and no other kicker in the league has slipped/missed like that (even though some have played in worse conditions). This isn't some one-off, it's a long term concerning trend. He's kicking 69% in his last 16 games and 55.6% in the last 4 games (regular and post season games combined). That 16 game stretch only includes 3 attempts of 50+ yards of which he made 1. Bass has 4 awful misses in his last 4 games (PITT game blocked kick and shanked 27 yarder, KC game missed 44 yarder, and the MIA game missed 45). It's not just that he missed those kicks, it's how those kicks looked. He had a kickoff short of the EZ in the Cards game returned for a TD (***** coverage to be fair) and a kickoff OOB. Weather conditions played a factor in all of those games, be it cold, snow, wind, or a damp field, but do you really trust this guy to make kicks at Orchard Park (or Arrowhead, or Paycore, or anywhere really) in January?
-
Not sure how this is germane to the conversation, but yes I have kicked a football before (never in live conditions). I'm not claiming to be some expert on the matter. I'm just some schlub posting on TBD. I'm claiming that his kick against the Dolphins was the worst FG attempt in the NFL this season. Do you have an example of a worse kick? I'm also claiming that his kick was not in the worst conditions this season. Do you think the field in Miami week 2 was worse than the field in Brazil week 1 ? Based on the above, and how bad he's looked since the Giants game last season I think it's time to cut bait before this Bass costs us more games.
