I NEVER WANT TO SEE THE QBR STAT EVER AGAIN!!!!
MJS replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall
Oh, I think passer rating does a decent job. It's problem is it doesn't take into account running, so dual threat QB's aren't properly accounted for. I'm assuming that's why QBR was initially created, but they did it all wrong. But yeah, you have to take into account a lot of different things when judging a QB, and QBR is not one of those. Passer rating is, though. As for the two performances mentioned, Burrow had a passer rating of 143.2, which is insanely good. Wilson had an 89.6, which is decent, but does undersell his rushing. I think that more accurately reflects their respective performances. -
That's just not true at all. If you win, you keep your job. If you lose, you lose your job. Whether or not you are entertaining, or a good interview, or have a sense of humor, or anything else is irrelevant. For a coach, it is only about winning. That's the only thing that will save their job. All those things you said are literally the LEAST important thing about their job. Yeah, some coaches are more personable, and that's nice. Good for them. I like that McDermott answers questions and isn't a jerk to the media, but McDermott knows that being a nice guy in interviews is not his job and will never save his job. He knows it comes down to building a winning team and winning football games. Period. As for Belichick? Yeah, I don't like him. His interviews are stupid. But I respect him as a winning coach, all cheating scandals aside. And he will have a job in New England, or for almost any other team in the NFL, for as long as he wants because of what he has accomplished on the field, regardless of his bad interviews.

Has the NFL's partnership with gambling ruined your experience?

Officiating has been inconsistent for years. It's not any worse this year than it has been. In fact, just a couple years ago we couldn't even get the catch rule right. Catches that were obvious catches were being overruled. Challenging pass interference a couple years ago was the biggest joke of officiating I have ever seen. So maybe if I felt officiating was different now I could entertain this idea, but it's not. You just have recency bias. -
Yes, but Allen needs to take a page out of Brady's book. Allen tries to look for a hole. Brady just lowers his head and shoulders and plows his way through without looking or hesitating.

Football, in general, might be about entertainment, but the head coache's job is not to entertain, it is to produce a winning team. A head coach should never have entertainment on their mind at all. Many of them are tough interviews, actually. They do it because they are forced to. They drank the Kool aid. All we've been hearing over the past couple of months is how great Mac Jones is and how great Bill Belichick is, and how the Patriots might be the best team in the league. Reality is a hard pill to swallow.

What's crazy is that the Patriots AND the Dolphins both have 7 game win streaks this season. Dolphins could potentially add even more to their streak. The Bills and Dolphins both lost to the Jaguars. Maybe the Patriots will follow suit. That would be funny.
-
The exact same thing could be said of the Dolphins, though. If the Pats get an early lead, the Dolphins don't have the horses on offense to bring them back. Should be an interesting game. They are similar teams except the Dolphins have a bad oline while the Pats have a good oline. Dolphins have better receivers, though.

Miami has a weak offense. That game could easily go either way.

Josh Allen doesn’t have a single first round pick on offense

I could see oline or receiver being drafted in the first round next year. I'd love to have another highly drafted CB to pair with White, but I realize that is defense. -

It's horrible. It's not fine at all. -

Nobody worth their salt takes that metric seriously. It fails time and time again to actually quantify the performance of a quarterback. The real thing to wonder is why ESPN didn't throw it out years ago. They still use it, and not even as a joke. -
Spreading on the field during games has not really been a thing.

Bruce Smith Puts Jerry Sullivan In His Place in 1997
MJS replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wow, he was even less hansom in 1997 than he is now. -
Belichick has not adjusted how he defends Allen and that has been his downfall. It's not about keeping Allen contained in the pocket anymore. Josh is an elite passer now.
-
That's just his face. Comes from years of scowling.

This is what they are saying in New England Land

That was a legitimate joy to listen to. Thanks for sharing. My favorite thing was seeing all the little comments pop up in the corner from fans lamenting their team. That's the most Boston thing I have ever heard! -
I have heard fans of other AFC East teams say that Allen is unlikeable and cocky. They say the same about McDermott. I was surprised at first, but I can kind of see it. Allen does talk trash sometimes and he certainly is confident. It's easy to hate the QB that beats you a lot. Can't say I understand the McDermott hate, though. He mostly just stands there and claps for his players. He has only gotten animated with the refs a couple of times. He is usually pretty calm. That first pats game was the worst I have ever seen him. It's interesting to try to think of certain players we love as Bills fans from the perspective of other fans. For instance, I could see them hating Diggs because Diggs talks a lot and gets animated sometimes.

That was on the Milano penalty. They were offsetting penalties. I bet Pats fans were really mad about that one especially since Davis went on to say it shouldn't have been called. But he's an idiot. The Pats player was aggressively pushing Milano back while walking into him and shoving his facemask into Milano's. I don't know if taunting is what I would have called it, but it was certainly unsportsmanlike conduct or something similar. The Milano penalty was valid, but it's not like he hit him hard. Just slid over the top of him. There's no need to "protect your QB" in that situation. We also can't hear what these players are saying in these situations. What they say to one another goes into it as well.

So, I think two things played into it. First, almost all of the contact from Hughes was him attempting to hold Jones up. Second, to me it was kind of obvious that Mac Jones flopped when he felt Hughes touch him, and with refs close by watching the same thing, they could have easily come to the same conclusion, that he flopped to try and get a penalty. I was pretty shocked they picked it up too. I think doing so was good for the game. Hughes was dumb to touch him, but I think we need to get away from penalties for simply touching the QB and drawing a flop. QB's get enough help. And, BTW, I would expect Josh to do the same thing. It's smart and in this case it almost worked. Josh has flopped and gotten calls in his favor in the past.

I agree except that he is worse than Collinsworth. That's simply not possible. Nobody can be worse than him.

Well, he may have been asymptomatic. A lot of people are with Omicron.
