Captain Caveman is this week's Nostradamus of the Game...
MJS replied to transient's topic in The Stadium Wall
What a legend! He actually played in the NFL! -
The speculation was always that Dorsey was being groomed to be the next OC. But other than people guessing, I don't think we have any actual info on that, do we?
-
I think they perform worse as a unit because of coaching and perhaps scheme. They may be asked to do things they aren't good at.
-
I agree completely. Daboll seems to hit a mental wall when we get in the red zone and during key situations.
-
Absolutely not. You tie it up and go to overtime at that point. But the play calling in the red zone and in overtime were horrible. Daboll needs to be better in those situations.
-
Good. What a tool. That's exactly what he would say. You don't expect him to come out and say "yeah, I did that". Even so, he didn't even refute that he kicked him, just that his "characterization" is inaccurate.

A lot of times it's a free rusher. Our oline sometimes doubles one guy and completely ignores another guy. It's a lack of communication on the line or just getting confused by stunts. There is a large component of what the oline does that is mental. And I think our oline lacks in that department. Not that I think they are dumber than average, but that I think they are unprepared and not well enough schooled in these things. That's why I think it comes back to the oline coach. Obviously I'm guessing, but it makes sense to me.

I wonder if there is a metric out there that measures how many times your QB has to evade pass rushers. It's like 90% of Josh's drop backs.
-
Two metrics from two organizations I have no faith in combined into one metric to rule them all!
-
I just think it is a mix of a lot of things. Yes, coaching is part of it. Preparation. Offensive scheme. Defensive line rotation. Lack of talent in a few areas. Bad luck. Bad officiating. Lack of execution by the players. Maybe there are some positional coaches that need to be replaced. It has all added up to some lost games. But, it isn't a lack of overall player talent or overall caliber of coaches. We have the players and coaches we need to make a run, even though they aren't perfect. That's what gives me a sliver of hope. They just need to all do a better job and really work hard.

With The Exception Of The Colts Game We Could Be Undefeated.
MJS replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, every contending teams has warts this year, some more than others. There aren't those dominant teams that seem like they are a big step above the rest of the NFL. Just get into the playoffs, play your best ball there, and see what happens. -
Is now the time to remove OJ Simpson from the wall of fame and HOF?
MJS replied to Walking Tall's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, absolutely. But civil trials require less burden of proof. It's definately a complicated situation. I believe he did it, but that mostly stems from people telling me that he did it all throughout my life. I was too young to really understand what was going on during his trial. People have zero burden of proof when expressing their opinions. -

The fact is, he went through a murder trial and was acquitted. Whether people think he did it or not isn't relevant. It was the job of the prosecutors to provide proof beyond doubt that he did it, and they did not do that. You are presumed innocent until proven guilty. That's how the law works here. Everything else is just public sentiment, and it's a dangerous road to make judgements on people and take action based on the whims of society. This is what trials are for, and he went through a trial and was acquitted. And I don't know what the Pegulas or the Bills have to gain by foolishly opening that can of worms. Why bring a media storm to your house if you don't need to? -
Josh in a boot after Tampa game (now says he's "good to go", no effects)
MJS replied to Bakin's topic in The Stadium Wall
What nonsense are you even spouting? Bills aren't a good team of they can't win 3 of 4 games without their franchise QB? -
He has done basically nothing since leaving the Bills.

Inside the 20 with a chance to win it two games in a row
MJS replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Daboll has made bad decisions in the red zone. That's a big deficiency of his. And our lack of ability to run on the goal line. I just feel like from now on you have to put it all in Josh's hands. Let him completely take over the offense, run as much as he wants, take the shots down the field he wants, etc. It's a lot to put on him and we'll get burned sometimes, but that's also when the offense comes alive the most. I don't think Josh has been put in a position to do that though. The play calling has been horrible. That's usually when we try dumb stuff like running it up the middle (which we consistently prove we can't do) for no gain, or TE screens. Daboll calls a completely different game in the red zone and it does not work. -
That's crazy he's about to pass Fred Jackson. Cookie was not in Buffalo very long. His stats are pretty crazy given that. I think there is a good chance by the end of his career that he will be the Bills all-time rushing TD leader.

A Few Thoughts about the Bucs Game, in no particular order
MJS replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm kind of sick of Daboll at this point. He is so stubborn. When things are working it is great, but when they aren't he fails to adjust. And he is just deficient as a run game coordinator. And it is alarming to me that we have seen every single individual offensive lineman play better than they are this season together. We need a better oline coach that can get these guys to play as a cohesive unit that communicates, passes off defenders effectively, and doesn't let free rushers through on every single play. -
Just have to see how it goes. Luckily, the offense finally figured out how to play in the 2nd half. Maybe they can take that into future games.
-
McDermott doesn't call plays on offense. It is Daboll. Daboll is deficient in the run game, both in scheme and in play calling. I'd also say he is deficient in the red zone. Daboll has a lot going for him, but until he improves in those areas, this team will struggle. I do think the oline is not great, and our running backs are not great either, but he should be able to scheme up some plays to cover some of those deficiencies. Singletary is more than capable. He just gets less than 10 carries a game.
