Bills now Vegas betting favorites to land Derrick Henry
MJS replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills are apparently rumored for every single player that is ever available or even not available. -
You are failing to account for Josh Allen doing his job pre-snap, which is to identify blitzers, set the line, audible out of doomed plays. That's the big issue. And Allen has never been a fast processor post snap. He likes to let things develop. He doesn't get the ball out quickly or take his hot routes or dump offs. It hasn't been a disaster, but at times he isn't good enough. That goes for almost everyone on offense against the Pats last week. Allen wasn't alone. Lots of players failed.

Purdy in Concussion Protocol. Likely OUT this weekend.
MJS replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
It used to be against the rules, but they changed it to allow it, and rightfully so. Heck, I think it should be allowed to pull them too. Why shouldn't it be? The reason other players don't do it is because they don't have the experience receiving snap from the center especially in the high stress situation of a sneak. That's asking for a costly fumble. When your Center or QB get injured you often see snap issues when the new guy comes in because they aren't as comfortable with the exchange. -

I hope they don't cave and change it just because one prominent player gets injured. That's one of the risks of the QB sneak. It's why you sometimes choose not to do it. It takes guts to line up and push head first into a pile of monstrous men. If you don't have the guts, run a different play. Just like it used to take guts to run a route across the middle of the field because linebackers would punish you. Now, that aspect of football has been legislated out of the game. It's good to be more safe, but you lose something important from the game every time you make those changes. Eventually you just have to accept the fact that it is a violent game and move on. -

If the injury rate is high (which I doubt it is) the NFL will look at it, I'm sure. If they actually end up changing the rule it will probably be from a competitive standpoint, which I think is BS, personally. -

How is it more dangerous than a normal QB sneak, and do sneaks have a high injury rate in general? The NFL usually targets plays with a high injury rate. -
How do we fit them under the cap, for one thing, and how many 1st round picks do you think it would take?

So, both Knox and Morris out. It's all on Kincaid.

Why do the Bills always defer when they win the coin toss?
MJS replied to Lost's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think they have shown that on average you get more possessions (a slight advantage) from getting the ball to start the 2nd half. I'm not sure how it works, but there is definitely a mathematical advantage. -

MJS replied to Lost's topic in The Stadium Wall
Because it is smart. Literally everyone does it. It gives you a very slight advantage. Do you ever watch other teams? -
You don't think coaches are telling him those basic things? Of course they are. Josh needs to own it and fix it. He is supposed to be an elite QB. Take your improvement into your own hands.
-
Funny, because the mental aspects of QB have been what he is struggling with. So, if that is the result of "low positive", he needs to change it.
-
Josh has taken the play clock down to single digits his entire career. That is not new.

Has NFL Given Any Explanation Why Flag Was Picked Up?
MJS replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
Goodness, give it a rest. Do you think you are stating something that people don't already know? Nobody is disputing that. Stop saying the same crap over and over. Fans can still talk about an officiating blunder if they want. They aren't excusing the team for sucking. -
OLINE PASS PRO/ QB UNFORCED ERROR ALL 22 REVIEW - WEEK 7 PATRIOTS
MJS replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall
A lot of people want to put it all on coaching. Heck, maybe they are right. It is way easier to evaluate players and their execution, though. It is way more difficult to evaluate coaches, at least for me. All I know is what the players are and aren't doing on the field. -
OLINE PASS PRO/ QB UNFORCED ERROR ALL 22 REVIEW - WEEK 7 PATRIOTS
MJS replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's less regression and more that defenses have adjusted and playing him better. Defenses are better around the league, actually. It is up to Josh to evolve, now. He has to get better at some of the QB mental aspects of the game because relying on his physical abilities, like he traditionally does, is not always getting the job done. But he has actually played well this year outside of the Pats and Jets games. Against the Giants I think it was more him getting let down by his teammates. That was definitely the case against the Jags too. -
I'd say there is an issue with that metric, then. The offense has been bad and there is no way around that. Has the defense been bad? Sure, at times, and definitely against the Patriots. But any metric that says the offense has been good is immediately flawed. I was responding about the defensive injuries. I know I said "team", but really I meant the defense and the impact it has on the Bills ability to win games.

Better watch out. If you state the fact that Josh Allen didn't play well, you'll get a lot of people attacking you, even if it is true. Nice analysis. I always enjoy these.- 57 replies

Has NFL Given Any Explanation Why Flag Was Picked Up?
MJS replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
Most games are close in the NFL. Yes, ideally you don't want the game to come down to a bad call, but often it does. You seem offended that fans want to discuss one of the negative aspects of that game, which was a poor call by the refs. Everyone is in agreement that the Bills sucked and played poorly, but that doesn't mean we can't also discuss a specific play that was at least curious from the refs. We all get it. There are bad calls. You don't want to be in a position where that impacts your ability to win. Yada yada. We aren't children. We understand. That is not the topic of this thread. Everyone understands this. The question was about a specific call from the refs. -
You help them by getting the ball out fast, which is something Allen has never been good at. You help them by throwing to your hot routes. You help them by ensuring their blocking assignments are right. All those things help a ton. But the line has been largely decent this year, outside of the Pats game. I disagree that they were bad in the two games previous.
