  1. Not the Bills, but Northwestern Univ. (near Chicago) released renderings of their new stadium today. The new Ryan Field will cost ~$800M and have a capacity of 35K, which is a downsize from the current field’s 47K. Looks kinda similar to what is said to be the design for us, with the awning over most seats. Are we going to have to go to three tiers to fit 60K? (Also, fer chrissake, 204KB is the biggest image size allowed here and it kinda sucks to have to do the photo-compress app three times before it’s small enough. 204KB is insanely small & crappy quality these days. Sorry to vent, but…)
  2. How soon we forget Korey Stringer. His family created a sports science center at my alma mater UConn after he died of exertional heat stroke in 2001 after a Vikings training camp practice where the heat index was 99* (and reached 110* that day). How the league can continue to schedule mid-day games in Miami & Tampa (tho, yesterday’s game there had a 4:30 start) in the early part of the season just takes a poop on the notion that they care about player safety.
  3. The final play. McKenzie juked for an extra yard for 8 seconds instead of just dropping to the ground. We would’ve had time for the spike a the FG try.
  4. Also McKenzie not just dropping to the ground after the last catch, rather than trying to juke for an extra yard for 8 seconds. If he doesn’t do that, we have a FG try. His situational awareness leaves a lot to be desired. Probably why Dorsey was pissed in the booth.
  5. Besides the common sense in having multiple egresses off the field, this is another reason to have separate entrances for the visitor and home locker rooms in the new stadium.
  6. How about giving Jordan Philips the carry ala Refrigerator Perry? Sorry, that haiku thread is getting to me.
  7. What’s Tenn wearing? On edit: They’re white on white.
  8. I was/am more of a Rafa-n and for awhile in the mid-00s, really didn’t like Roger because he seemed very smug at times to me, a show-off, and perhaps because he won too much(?) when before Rafa & Djokovic came along, any competition wasn’t there. But I’ve come to really respect his game, how much he brought to the sport, appreciating his humor, and his interaction with the kids and other players. Some of the things that changed my perception was 1) being stopped by the security guard at the Wimby players’ entrance because he didn’t have his ID badge and he patiently waited for his coach(?), who was carrying it rather than making a situation. I mean, he was a 7-time winner of that tourney and was the most recognizable face on tour and an A-lost sports star and worth hundreds of millions in sponsorships alone but he just calmly stood there. 2) Telling off Djokovich’s team box when they just wouldn’t shut up. Their jeering was one of the reasons people didn’t / don’t like Novak. 3) Seems like a good family man.
  9. On a Uni devoted FB group I’m on, they showed a college equipment manager prepping the footballs first with shaving foam / cream, leaving it on for an hour, wiping off and then using the mud product and brushing. I think it was that the shaving cream softened the leather a bit and helped remove whatever oils / grime was used in manufacturing. I seriously LOVE this kind of content and when I was young wanted to be an equipment guy. Just the ritual to it, the careful control of the aesthetic, ….
  10. Easily the best Star Wars content there is.
  11. I told my best friend & his wife who chose YTTV that it’s not a bad idea to have an antenna as a backup option for Boston locals in So.NH….
  12. I’m kinda torn here. It’d be so nice to finally meet up with fellow TBDers, but I also got a new big teevee a few weeks ago and have been anticipating christening it with this TNF opener. Is there like an expectation of ordering steady drinks / food there (at that, I don’t do alcohol, so it’d be ginger ales / water for me)? 😄 Come for the uhhhmmm… the nutmeg 🤷‍♂️(??), stay for the 6.35% sales tax.
  13. I’ve been doing the better living through chemistry (the legal Rx kind) thing for anxiety the past couple of years. I have a few supplemental doses per month the doc prescribed for extra heavy days. Even the AFC Championship game 2 years ago, it kinda seemed like it came and went with a blur, speaking time-wise. When I was younger I would literally get sick with anxiety and what might now be called panic attacks (and for those reading the thread on OTW, I’m also on the autism spectrum, where anxiety is kinda part & parcel).
  14. Per a Jordan Philips Insta of the mannequin in the locker room, it looks to be blue on blue.
  15. No, that’s an old placeholder render, but the meat of that article is very interesting in making a mesh exterior that if I understand it right will kinda *absorb* the wind rather than just deflect it so it just flows in another direction… e.g. above & around & even over the facade and affecting the field. I’m expecting a lot of folks have see. those plastic wrap signs that have semi-circles cut into them and wind blows right through. One that has no perforations becomes a sail and is heavily effected / blown away in higher winds. Wonder how this is going to play out for the design in OP. is it going to be a mesh and then a solid wall on the interior of that, with a channel for wind to follow and die out? Kinda like those Solo branded outdoor firepit things that’s double-walled with aeration holes and claims to not create as much smoke as regular ones?
  16. Wow. More CT representation than I thought here. I didn’t know about Tavern House Grill in Tolland, and it’s like 20 minutes away. Alas, the FB says it went belly-up in 2019. Shea’s in Manchester is now the sanctioned bar, last I’m seeing.
  17. Exactly the thing trying to be avoided 😉. The English are so far ahead of us in diagnosis & treatments.
  18. Same deal here, late diagnosis at 35 in 2016… Asperger’s (I pronounce it with a soft G as they do in England), as-was.
  19. I watched a couple U.S. Open 🎾 matches, including the Benicic (Switzerland) - Cirstea (Romania) 😍, this afternoon on the ESPN+ app and they didn’t have any commentary. Just the court sounds (neither of these gals are grunters / screamers) and it was amazing. Just like you’re there in the crowd, but with the best angles and replays. Wish they could have that option / to turn off the commentators for football. I don’t need all the glad-handing and to know that Ryan Fitzpatrick went to Harvard etc.
  20. Play by play announcer: Looks like he got some wood on that slider! Color commentator: Yeah, it came in inside and tight! At least *someone* from Oakland scored at an A’s game.
  21. And for a guy who brings home the bacon with his legs, maybe a career ender. I’m seeing that over 30% of all players in the NFL who suffer an Achilles never play in a game again.
