MMQB Staff Makes Playoff and Super Bowl LII Picks
BigDingus replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, 3 out of 11 picked us to win. That's actually better than I thought. That's better than our chances to make the playoffs in week 17, so I'll take it! -
http://www.espn.com/nfl/attendance/_/sort/homePct So I keep seeing these threads mocking the Dolphins attendance for the last game of the season, saying if the situation was reversed the Bills would've had a full stadium. But we've seen time & time again that really isn't true. Even this year, we've seen games where there are plenty of seats empty, even though we were in the thick of the playoff race. Even in week 15, against the apparently "hated rival" Dolphins, with a chance to go 8-6 and as our LAST home game, we only managed to sell 85% of the tickets. Overall, we rank 24th while Miami ranks 3rd. Even when you switch to "average" attendance, Bills only move up to 17th, still one spot below Miami at 16th. The Jags are 19th in percentage, and 21st in average just for reference since they're also made fun of for the tarps, then swapping them out for pools. I think people still assume we just turn out in droves no matter what, as we used to be that way in the past. I don't blame people for not going amidst an 18 year playoff drought, but I feel the glorification of our fan turnout isn't reality.
-
And there's more of that hostility right there. You must be a real people person. The last time we had an unbelievable defense that was top of the league in sacks, and with a secondary that made great QB's look below average. It's still definitely possible, the circumstances have changed quite a bit.

A look at what Aaron Maybin is up to these days.
BigDingus replied to Bills Fan in MD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you're saying these kids don't need heating and the lights on? Proper facilities and equipment? If not, then Baltimore doesn't spend enough. And if it spends the second highest amount per student, what does that say about our public education system if there are still students in these conditions? Your comment was pointless, and just tries to deflect from the issue. It's CLEARLY not enough, and we do spend way the hell too much on jails. -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - All So Improbable
BigDingus replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People always say "lots of holes to fill!" as if the QB position isn't a glaring hole and hasn't been for 18 years... The Bills have had the longest playoff drought in NFL history, and therefore are equating us getting in with some kind of sustainable success. That's not the case, and look at all the other bad teams that HAVE made the playoffs sooner than us, and how they still weren't good for long after with those QBs. The Browns are now the longest active drought, but they got in before us. They made it with Kelly Holcomb (who almost beat the Steelers in those playoffs). The Redskins before Cousins made it in several times, but nobody remembers their QBs. The Bucs made it in with Jeff Garcia. The Jags made it in with David Garrard (and won a game). The Dolphins made it in with Chad Pennington. The Jets made it in with Mark Sanchez. The Titans made it in with Kerry Collins. The Broncos made it in with Tim Tebow, and before that Jake Plummer. The Rams made it in with Marc Bulger. The Bears made it in with Rex Grossman & later Jay Cutler. The Eagles made it in with Mike Vick & later Nick Foles. Guys, we've just been SUPER unlucky. With the Patriots being in our division, we've had no shot at winning that route, so we've had to resort to WC play. And there are always teams that come through at the end, where we falter. Just because we got in this year with TT, that does not equal "TT is the guy who got us in!" -
Albert Breer: McDermott has Bills pointing up
BigDingus replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mean, the Dolphins were a good team last year, and losing Tannehill set them way back. Anyone arguing otherwise is delusional. But saying they were SB contenders is also pretty ridiculous. I don't remember a single outlet claiming they'd go to the SB, let alone win it. And if you're not expected to go to the Super Bowl, how are you a SB "contender?" -
His quote was wrong anyway. The OL is not responsible for TT hanging on to the ball for too long. He holds on to it longer than all but 2 QB's in the league, and that's including everyone who started this year, not just 32 players.
-
Get a damn QB already! I cannot believe anyone actually thinks because we made it to the playoffs that our QB situation is somehow settled. It's been bad all year, just as it has for years, with Tyrod getting worse & worse each season. As the Bengals have shown us, a LOT has to go right in order for a team to make the post season. Every year we're "in the hunt" the last few games of the season but something dumb happens & we blow it. This year we got a ton of help, but that doesn't mean we just ignore the rebuilding process we signed McDermott up for. This just shows he did a lot more with less than most other coaches in the league. TT isn't the worst QB, but man we NEED to take a shot at a franchise QB for once.

Tyrod Taylor's "Signature Moment" of 2017?
BigDingus replied to twoandfourteen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mean he's still not good... You're right, they playoff drought has made people dumber. They now think Tyrod's somehow the savior of the team despite his poor play just because the team is in the post season. I don't recall anyone wanting Trevor Simeon, but I'm sure some person out there did. But in terms of improving our passing offense, there are way fewer out there who couldn't do better than TT, who has us ranked 32nd all year. -
The last time the Bills were in the playoffs...
BigDingus replied to DC Tom's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was 13 doing community service for Confirmation with my mom, painting the inside of a house while the Bills vs Titans game was on. When Steve Christie kicked that FG I ran around cheering. Seconds later was the only time I cried tears for a football game. I'm not 31, married, and half the country away. But while celebrating my mom's birthday out at dinner with a bunch of friends & family while watching the Bengals game I realized this was the first time I've watched a game with my mom since that day! No joke... My mom didn't watch football, and even though the family is all Redskins fans (born & raised in VA), she roots for the Bills for me. And after that game, I went to sports bars with my dad so I could watch the Bills while he watched the Skins. Then we moved to Texas, and tradition continued until I was old enough to drive & find a Bills Backers Bar in Dallas. Eventually I moved across the state, and watch them on Sunday Ticket. But going back to Dallas to celebrate was the first time my mom & I watched football together since the Music City "Miracle" and suddenly we're in the playoffs! So I consider her the reason the curse is broken -
Outside of the Bills, I am rooting for the Eagles/Vikings in the NFC, and Jags (depending on how they beat us...if it's via BS ref calls, I'll hate them)/Chiefs in the AFC. Pretty much teams that have never won the Super Bowl before. I don't care about the NFC South teams, so there goes half the NFC, and the Rams I'm 'meh' on. I like Goff, but I'd hate to see LA (and NFL) rewarded so soon after relocating with a SB team. In the AFC, anyone but the Steelers & Pats, as we've seen them too many times already. The Titans are just boring, but it'd be cool if we could somehow meet them in the playoffs & avenge our 2000 playoff loss.

Cleveland Browns - Will they go 0-16?
BigDingus replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel bad for DeShone Kizer.... even when he plays well, the team fails him. I hope they keep him as their starter for another year. First, so they don't draft a QB ahead of us, and second, because that's the only way you can ever find out if he's a good QB. Just basing their career off their rookie season on a crap team is a disservice to him & the organization. -
They're going to have to get out to a lead and maintain it if they have any chance of winning. Playing from behind is when the Bills and Tyrod are at their worst. And we absolutely cannot fall behind at any point in the 4th quarter... Even if it's only by a FG, that has proven insurmountable too many times.

I accidentally NEARLY flipped a table at Outback Steakhouse... No joke. We were celebrating my mom's birthday with a bunch of family & friends, and I couldn't pay attention to anything but the game. We're in Dallas, so everyone there were Cowboys fans (or in my family Redskins fans), and my obsession was actually infecting them. On the 4th & 12 play, I told everyone "THIS IS OUR SEASON, WATCH!" The second Dalton completed that pass, I jumped up (my back was to the booth, but the other side was just chairs against a freestanding table), my knees hit the bottom of the table and knocked it up at least 2 feet! Everyone's plates slid off, our bread went flying, and everyone looked up at the TV and started cheering when they saw him running it in for a TD! I yelled, then saw everyone in the restaurant looking at me, so I ducked down across the booth lol. Instead of our friends & family thinking I was an idiot, they were actually shocked & super thrilled, as my excitement was contagious. It was actually pretty awesome, as the rest of the night everyone from servers to random people in the restaurant came over to congratulate me (like I had any involvement lol) as it was obvious why I was so excited with my Bills hat, jersey, & new socks on (socks must be lucky!).

Chiefs to Start Mahomes in Week 17
BigDingus replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would've been ecstatic for Mahomes. As as Texas Tech alumni still living in Texas, to have our QB be the Bills starter would've been so cool to see! All of Lubbock would've become Bills fans, and I'd no longer stick out like a sore thumb lol But more than that, he's got soooooo much talent. If he can adjust that talent to the NFL, he'll be fantastic. -
Did Peterman lose to crappy-ass Cincy, the game that actually is an embarassing loss? The Chargers are actually good, and in better playoff position than us. To think Tyrod was going to go in there and beat them the way they were playing is HILARIOUS. You know who he should've beaten though? The freaking Bengals. The same Bengals who besides us have only beaten the Colts, the Browns twice, the Broncos & the Lions. Yeah, real world-beaters there. Maybe scoring some points in the Panthers game could've helped instead of being totally inept? 3 points in the 4th quarter, and that's it? Yeah, totally Peterman. Asking for a TD in the other 3 quarters is a monumental task for TT, I know. So no, you can still blame the 18th on Tyrod.

How is your source still getting this insider info if he was fired specifically for getting insider info for you? Pretty sure if he lost his job because of you, he'd be one person nobody would share info with. And just thinking about this makes me laugh... it's like a long game of telephone where someone at OBD hears something, tells someone, who now tells your unemployed friend, who tells you, who then tells us. Yeah, that's usually a great way to preserve the accuracy of information.
-
Yes. Orton was better than Tyrod. And if you're talking about completion percentage, yeah, Tyrod is middle of the road. Passer rating? Middle of the road. Yards per game? Bottom of the league. It's hilarious you think Tyrod is "efficient" because he chooses not to dump the ball off. REAL efficiency is finding the right targets at the right time and in the right situation. Always being satisfied no matter what's going on in-game to throw short of the sticks and not make the required pass isn't efficient. There's a knock on Cousins right now that he does something similar, and I can find the direct quote to break that down for you if you're still somehow confused what actual efficiency is. Here's the quote about Cousins from Cian Fahey that applies to Taylor ten-fold: " I always feel like he’s a guy who is going to take the 6 yards that are definite instead of taking the like 20 yard throw, or aggressive throw, that will actually help you win the game. See, this is the thing you kinda need to dive really deep into. We tend to, in the NFL, say that if a guy doesn’t throw interceptions he makes good decisions, but I always find the situational awareness, the situational understanding, of what your team needs at a specific time to try and win the game. I always find that to be a better determination of how good you are at making decisions and I’m still very much concerned, that’s my biggest concern with Cousins, like I think he’s a guy who would happily check down on 3rd and long, who’ll happily check down on even 2nd and intermediate or medium whatever you want to call it, and I don’t think that helps you win games, I don’t think he elevates anyone around him, I don’t think he sets you up for success, and especially not when you’re gonna have to pay him $25 or $30 million a year, whatever it is.”

What QB do you want to draft.
BigDingus replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really dislike him... And his TD stats look super warped. He had a good stretch to end the season, but his college career has been all over the place, and like you said, his accuracy is pretty sketchy. -
That's not a huge accomplishment or anything...He's got marginally better stats than LaFell. Neat?
-
Let's just hope that if for some reason the Bills are sold on him, they take him after the first 2 rounds.
-
But you haven't given any hard news throughout this thread. In fact, most everything you've said is extremely vague barring a few things reported elsewhere. Everything else is purely speculation. And of course he didn't respond to this post.
-
Wow, I've never hoped anyone was wrong more than I have right now. Locke is not that good... I mean, if we get him in the 3rd or something I wouldn't HATE it, but man considering the QB's in this draft it'd be a shame to walk away with Locke. Josh Rosen to the Jets at 7 & Baker Mayfield to the Bengals at 10? If both of those happen, I'll be pretty upset (especially Rosen to the Jets). If they're on the board that long, and the Bills don't pull the trigger on a trade up to grab one of them, it'll be pretty painful.

We had one of the best defenses in the league in 2014, and a game manager that was better than Tyrod didn't carry us enough. In fact, that whole team was pretty stacked, yet we still didn't do anything with it. Skipping on a QB yet again is just foolish.
