  1. I don't know why people insist on setting themselves up for huge let-downs like this.... but hey, more power to you! I'm just happy with how well the season went with all things considered. Going in, it looked like a tank year, and that everyone was looking forward to 2018. And we made cap room, found some gems of free agents (Hyde, Poyer, Gaines, etc.) and picked up Benjamin on offense. Even though we don't know who will stay for next season, I'm confident we can retain key pieces and build up a solid roster with some actual depth heading into next season.
  2. Parcells had a pretty mixed bag of results when it came to QB's. However, I'd love to have someone like a young Drew Bledose or Romo (at any point as long as he's healthy) as our QB.
  3. Oh...now I see where the OP's love for Tyrod came from...
  4. If he could be a QB coach or something sure, but not as the starting a QB a year after retiring. Too injury prone at this point.
  5. You will find a direct correlation with the Tyrod faithful & those who think that way. I've already counted a few obvious ones so far. They are now going to pretend franchise QB's aren't the most important thing in the sport, and that mediocrity at the position is fine because "look at some of these far superior players who also didn't make the playoffs every year!"
  6. I guess I just want to know if anywhere in this thread did anyone "connect the dots" on the stadium crap he originally posted? He keeps saying he provided useful information, but everything I read throughout still suggests there was nothing useful at all... Also, he said he got his source fired, but then got new information from that source about Kirk Cousins? How does that make sense?
  7. Man, that was some definite BS. Also, it's crazy to think how many times Flutie threw for 300 yards in one season... The NFL wasn't even the passing league it is now. If we had a QB like him right now we'd be killing it
  8. So some old geezers & dead folk don't care? Ok... It's not like it was their fault they had an ugly logo anyway.
  9. I really don't think the Giants are going to trade out of that spot. Their fans would riot. Webb & Mayfield both came up at Texas Tech (where I went to school), and were both in an awkward situation, transferred, then got replaced by Patrick Mahomes the following year. Mayfield showed promise, Webb looked like a system-only guy, and Mahomes was loaded with raw talent. It'll be interesting as a Tech Alumn to see these guys start in the NFL when for so long, the NFL avoided Texas Tech QB's like the plague. For the life of me I cannot see Davis Webb as a good NFL QB. Obviously, I could be wrong, but still... He really was a system guy through & through, and unless the Giants plan on running a college spread, I can't imagine how he'd be successful.
  10. If the Bills don't have a shot at Darnold, Rosen or Mayfield I hope they stay put & draft best available. If a QB that has upside slips to them in the later rounds, cool, but DO NOT trade back up into the first & reach for a guy that you're not in love with just because there's nobody else left & you want a QB badly. We tried that with JP Losman, after Manning, Rivers & Ben were taken.
  11. Honestly it'd rather hear Marvin Lewis & the Bengals players say something like this. Given they have nothing to play for & benefit more from a loss, I'd hope they'd want to hurt the Ravens more than anything.
  12. Awesome. Hope he does well. At least they don't have a dumb owner who will then turn around and decide to start him for the playoffs if he has a good game....benching the starter that lead them to the playoffs in the first place. No...This is not Doug Flutie/Rob Johnson all over again. Nobody is that stupid.
  13. The year before Luck they were a 2-14 team...They were 11-5 the following season after drafting Luck. That team was AWFUL outside of Luck & Reggie Wayne (and TY Hilton as a rookie). They immediately went to the playoffs, losing to the Ravens who won the Super Bowl. The following year they were 1st place in the AFC South, went 11-5 again, won their first playoff game, only losing to the Patriots in the playoffs. The next season, they were AGAIN 11-5, won 2 playoff games, and lost in the AFC Championship game to the Patriots...who won the Super Bowl that year. Yes, in 2015 when Luck was injured & started only 7 games, Matt Hasselbeck had a better record than Luck. He suffered from torn cartilage in 2 ribs, a jacked up shoulder, a lacerated kidney, and more. He wasn't playing great before some of that, but he was also getting rocked every game as his O-line was miserable, and the play calling was wretched (their Offensive Coordinator was fired early in the season). In 2016, he came back & played better than any Bills QB has played since Kelly. He threw for 4,240 yards, 31 TDs to only 13 INT's, posted a career best in YPA with 7.8, posted a career best in completion percentage at 63.5%, and all with an injured shoulder from the prior year & a career high in sacks with 41. Again, he was getting hammered. There were articles from doctors saying the injuries he suffered were usually only seen in people after car crashes. Of course this year he had surgery and sat out the season. His shoulder recovery isn't where he wanted it to be, and as of November he was still getting treatment for it. So he had one bad season since he's been a starter, and played FAR better than any QB we've had in decades. Hes thrown for over 4,000 yards in 3 out of 4 seasons he played the whole season, has never thrown for less than 23 TD's (and has thrown as many as 40) in those 4 seasons, also makes plays with his feet and averages almost 4 rushing TD's a season.... I mean the guy is a HUGE upgrade over what the Bills have had since Kelly.
  14. Fair enough, all valid points. I'd love us to get Mayfield, but he won't be there where we're picking, and as the draft gets closer, you know QB's stock rises & rises to where they're all going to go super early. People were saying Mariota & Winston were reaches. They also said Goff & Wentz were reaches. Their stock grew & grew leading up to the draft, but based on their college careers "experts" said they weren't deserving of those spots. And every year we have people saying "wait until next year's draft when _____ comes out!" Or "this QB draft class is weak!" But every year (with a couple of exceptions) QBs are found that prove everyone wrong. As fans we tend to think some future guy is going to be the one, then after the year plays out & we get closer to the draft we get cold feet. There are few, if any, guarantees...and that's what we fans tend to look for. There's always a risk someone isn't going to pan out. There's always a risk that a guy who had a great college career doesn't translate well to the NFL. But I feel half of that ends up being on the coaching staff to develop & teach them properly, and also how smart the guy is. If we find a guy that is incredibly smart, has the talent, the arm strength, the confidence, etc. to play the position, I want us to pull the trigger. They can learn the speed of the NFL through experience. They can get timing down through practice. They can be coached up & have their mechanics tweaked. But the one thing that is hardest to grasp is an NFL playbook & how to read opposing defenses. That's why taking a smart QB is what I feel is most important. If Rosen, Mayfield, Darnold, etc. are that smart, then I can overlook some of their down moments in college. If they had some bad games here & there or didn't always light it up on the field, it's ok as long as they corrected that and learned from it. You very well may be right about Darnold or Rosen not being THAT much better than Mayfield. But I'd be thrilled with any of them but fear we won't even get the chance. Maybe in the 3rd round or later.
  15. I'd LOVE to trade for Luck. According to what we've heard, Luck believed he wasn't healthy & ready to go whereas ownership says it's just mental at this point. The Saints rolled the dice on Brees when everyone else wanted to play it safe due to his injury. This is a bit different, but I'd still take the chance. Luck has been beaten up behind a horrible offensive line for a couple of seasons now. He knows his body better than management. If he says he wasn't ready, then I'd take his word over people who have a vested financial interest in him getting on the field ASAP.
  16. I'd take ANY of the above except Mason Rudolph. Lamar Jackson would be 2nd to last choice, but even then I value him far ahead of Rudolph. I'd want: 1. Baker Mayfield 2. Josh Rosen 3. Sam Darnold Distant 4. Josh Allen Distant 5. Lamar Jackson "Mr. Irrelevant" 6. Mason Rudolph I get where you're coming from, but when you think about what a great QB means for the franchise, I'd give up a king's ransom. If the Bills right now were guaranteed a QB that was on the level of Carson Wentz, I'd give up both our 1st rounders, next year's 1st rounder, and some other picks if necessary. Again, that's "guaranteeing" we get the next Wentz, which nobody can do. But it's worth it in the long run, as Wentz is going to make the Eagles a contender every year for as long as he's healthy. The NFC East is now the Eagles domain until Washington, Dallas or NY get a QB on his level.
  17. The title doesn't make sense. The post inside doesn't make sense. Great thread.
  18. Yes. He's the "best" option in that he's a 7 year veteran with 3 years as a starter, and we KNOW who he is. The other option is a rookie that we know nothing about. To act like anyone has any idea of the kind of player Nate Peterman is as an NFL QB is just insane. We didn't then, and we don't now. But the only way to know is to play him & find out. I won't fault McDermott for trying. Tyrod hasn't been good all year.
  19. We didn't score but a single FG, and that was in the 4th QT, against the Panthers. We couldn't beat the lowly 6-9 Bengals, even though the defense gifted the offense 3 turnovers. Think about who the Bengals beat besides us, and explain how the Bills are on that list: 1. Browns 2. Colts 3. Broncos 4. Browns 5. Lions Their best wins are the Lions & the Bills.... That game is a huge factor in the playoff race. There's no shame losing to the Chargers, regardless of who was playing QB. The way we had been playing the past 3 weeks, coupled with how well the Chargers were playing (and they were at home) would've resulted in an L either way. The Bengals game should've never been a loss, and the offense should've been able to do SOMETHING against the Panthers.
  20. I'm just worried about where the Bills are picking at this point. There are 3 highly touted QB's coming out that all have the potential to be long-time starters. The Bills are not in a place where they can draft any one of them. This reminds me of 2004 all over again except this time we're further back. In 2004: Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger & JP Losman...all drafted in the 1st round. Eli was taken #1, Rivers #4, Big Ben # 11, and the Bills took Lee Evans at #13. Then we traded back into the 1st round to grab Losman at #22. I could definitely see something similar happening this time. Rosen, Darnold and Mayfield all taken before the Bills get their first pick, then at the end of the 1st round we take a QB from the tier beneath them (like Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen or Mason Rudolph) and hope he pans out.
  21. Do you guys enjoy being crushed week after week? I mean setting your expectations high is one thing, but this? That's begging to be disappointed. I still believe the Bills can make the playoffs, but it's really up to the Ravens at this point to lose. If the Bills were to face the Chiefs in the Wildcard somehow I could even see a win. But not against the Jaguars, and certainly not against the Steelers.
  22. I don't get why everyone thinks a covered stadium has to cost billions. Unless taxes & construction are just that high in NY, we've seen quite a few teams build non-billion dollar covered stadiums. Maybe with inflation it could creep up there, but even then there are some built for under a billion.
  23. So out of everything referenced you point to the AGG stat? Really? It's a useful metric WHEN TAKING INTO ACCOUNT EVERYTHING ELSE. On its own, it doesn't give any sort of picture on how a QB plays, but in conjunction with EVERYTHING ELSE it really highlights Taylor's abilities. The point of this post was to put all the stuff we see on the field, along with the stats, to explain his deficiencies and issues. You can pick any ONE thing and try to single it out, but that's not the point. That's why when people point to "he's efficient!" with his limited passes, I show that throwing short of the sticks, averaging low YPA, dumping off to RBs, below average completion percentage, etc. disproves that.
  24. Agree. Charging Buffalo is fantastic, the standing one is awful. Also, hate white on white with white helmets. Oh well.
