Would you keep the HC\GM combo if Allen doesn't work out.
Mat68 replied to downunderbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Depends on the recignition and response to the issue. -
Even though he blew up the combine I think there is strong chance at Taylor being available at 54. With the incredible amount of usage at Wisconsin I think that will scare teams away. At 54 im ok with him because he will share the load with Singletary and he is on a reasonable rookie deal. He is the most produuctive and most athletic running back in the class. I think Buffalo runs to the podium and may even trade up for him in rd 2.

Diggs is as perfect pairing for the offense and Allen. With the NE principles that made Welker and Edleman famous, Diggs will be given freedom on jerk routes to get open. Beasley did non conventional moves to get open amd Allen found him alot. With Allens arm strength he can allow some freedom to Diggs and throw it to a spot. Diggs is also tops in the league since he entered in deep ball efficency. Having an elite deep threat is something Allen has always needed to stretch the whole fieild. Diggs moves all the other passing options down to an ideal position. Brown as the secondary option, Cole third and Knox forth really allows them to flurish with less attention.

Right now with the current state of travel I suspect the FA spending to be done. Unable to kick tires on older backs or players with checkered pasts off the field or injury seems like a calculation Mcbeane wont make. I dont recall many June 1 designated cuts at the start of FA, so the possiblitly of a secondary FA period is very real imo. -
Im not arguing Allen hasnt been good at it. For everything thats required from an NFL starting qb deep accuracy is pretty low on the list. The NFL average for the play is 46.6 percent. Yes, Allen was below average. I think I gave reasons why a handful of plays could reasonably fall the other way. If that happens Allen would be at or above league average. A total of 709 accurate deep passes (ACC) were thrown by 35 qualifying quarterbacks in 2018, an average of 19.0. The total amount of attempts came to 1,520, while the average was 43.4. The average accuracy percentage was 46.6 percent, and in this study 19 quarterbacks finished above that percentile.Jul 26, 2019 Football Outsiders › 2019 › 2018-1... 2018-19 Deep Ball Project | Football Outsiders

Where to begin? Well im not just spewing non sense to start an internet arguement. Im not writing some peer review journal either. You think im lying help yourself to prove it. Josh Allen year 1 had terrible weapons. Im not impressed with the ability of our recievers to for lack of a better phrase help out Allen. For every great play Knox made he missed easy ones. For as fast as Jon Brown is for his career his deep ball win rate is much lower than you would expect. With Allen, those that have been opposed to him from the start have seemed to move the goal posts with him. Hes too inaccurate. They got him intermidate weapons he is tops in the league in intermidiate passing. This year Jimmy G lead the league in many deep ball categories, while also throwing some of the fewest league wide. Heck Mahomes isnt top 5 and to the naked eye hes by far the best. With everything that ive seen with Allen if deep ball efficentency is the only concern then Buffalo is in great shape. You feel different thats ok. Imo Diggs solves alot of problems the passing atrack had last year. His deep ball catch rate has comsistently been high with multiple Qbs throwing him the ball. Bridewater, Bradford, Kennum and Cousins.
-
Every Qb misses them..... Even Mahomes.
-
Did he miss throws? Yes. Am I concered that he a has a fatal flaw? No. The point about his recievers. Unless the ball landed inbewteen the numbers in their arms they didnt catch it. For 1 that was uncatchable their been 1 where they should have. During last offseason PFF did a podcast on deep balls. Just look at the numbers. The league leaders are under 20 completion. So 5 to 6 completions equates to 25% thats a big swing.

Would you trade Trent Murphy for Rashaad Penny?
Mat68 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think a servicable De is worth more than a servicable Rb. Espically, a Rb with an injury history. -
What im saying is deep accuracy is a violtile stat year over year. Players that are worst routinley lead the league the following year and visa verse. Who did Allen have to throw to the last 2 years? Having Diggs outside greatly improves the success of his deep ball. For everything Jon Brown is, what he is not is a consistent deep ball guy. For his career he is below the NFL in catch rate of deep throws. Diggs on the other hand has been near the tops in the league in this category his entire career. With 5 to 6 plays being the difference from tops to worst, having Diggs on the recieving end of those plays will greatly improve. Mind you the guys Allen the past 2 years was throwing these balls to. He didnt have Tareek Hill or Micheal Thomas. It was Benjimen, Holmes, Mckenzie, Jones, and Foster I like the odds of him improving. Because they manned up across the board and no one got open.
-
Browns lack of route running cost them the Baltimore game. This is a game where not having a #1 wr costed them the game. Not a single Wr was able to consistently get open. Down the strech he hit his fair share of deep throws. Diggs and Brown with Allens arm stength is going to stress defense.
-
At this point they would be spending money on a guy who will see the feild in a limited basis. I think drafting a guy makes way more sense. They can learn the position and have a package of plays each week. In the draft I can see them gping multiple ways. Claypool or Pittman big slot or x wrs in the short term redzone threat. Hamler as a possible weapon and future replacememt to beasley in the slot. Finally a Shaunalt or Bowden type who can be a playmaker and future outside wr. I think day 2 those are all strong possiblites and imo will have the most value when they are on the clock.

Because, the single largest area NFL qbs need to win at is the short to intermediate. 0 to 20 yards is where the NFL passing games win or lose. Allen went from bottom of the NFL to to top 5 in year 2. That progression paired with his improved Td to int ratio all shows Allen developing into an above average qb. Deep throws are low percentage. Connecting 5 to 6 more a season is the difference from bottom to tops in the league. Adding Diggs will greatly improve the offense in this area. Having 2 guys outside who can run past defenders and run full route trees will create more oppurtunites down the feild.

Bills trade for Diggs - jw no discussions on a restructure

Brown got seperation due to his speed on routes coming back to the line of scrimage. I feel like this is why Allen had struggle facing the blitz for parts of last year. If a defender got into Beasley he doesnt have the foot speed to get away. The opposite seemed to happen with brown. If you played off he didnt run percise enough routes to gain seperation on 3 step drops. Diggs taks pressure off Brown and Beasley. He also, gives Allen a go to vs Blitz. Diggs route running pair perfectly with Allens arm and quick release. Imo he negates the biggest weakness the offense had last year. -
Allens biggest issue coming out of college and year 1 was the intermidiate passing game. Last year he was top 5 in the NFL in that category. Ironcilly, PFF pointed to his intermediate game his rookie as a reason he wouldnt become a legitament starter. Deep accuracy is a category where year over year different Qbs lead the league and doesnt corelate year over year. This is my main gripe last year with PFF. Allen corrected and spent time improving on the single largest area of NFL success at Qb. Instead all year they harped on his deep accuracy. Which his rookie year when he was tops in the league in air yards they dismissed as a category that does not corelate to future success. Allen showed his rookie year he has the arm and accuracy to hit the deep throws. Adding Diggs will open things up for Brown and the rest of the offense. I suspect Allen improves on deep ball and the offense becomes more explosive.

Do you think Beane still goes after Clowney or Pass?
Mat68 replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he is in play. Idk if you sign him to a massive deal. 2 to 3 years and alot of guaranteed money and signing bonus could work. Buffalo still has over 25 mil after rookie money. If they can add an impact player they need to do it. Even though he doesnt have the sack numbers he is an impact player. -
With Singletary Gurley makes alot of sense imo. Limiting both to 20 touches helps. Gurley in just the role Gore had is a massive improvement. Gurley has a few years left. So to steal a NBA term load management. Like Kawi give Gurley rest and save him for 3 games in January and Feburary.

Bill knows how to press buttons of his top players. His deciples just come off as blowhards. -
We are looking at Melvin Gordon according to this tweet
Mat68 replied to Buffalo03's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think limiting Singletary to 21 touches is the move. Having a back that can handle the rest without a drop off is huge. The offense stalled when Gore was in the game. The offense was predictable. -
For the right money Gurley or Gordon make sense.

I dont care if he is the highest paid back. Not my money. They pony up to the cap in an attempt to make a run as a fan I would be happy. Also, cap number always changes, new contracts are signed. -

Ya saw that. I think with Arians age, Bradys age they are going all in for this year and maybe next. That contract and his knee though will be hard to fit anywhere.
