If I had to, I would take Anderson over Peterman but I would rather see a wildcat with a combination of Pryor and Thomas throwing. Any other year, that would sound like a terrible idea that would only have a place in someone's madden game. This year, you are talking about an offense that has scored 0 touchdowns in the past two games against two defenses that aren't anywhere near the best in the league. There is virtually nothing to lose by doing this until Allen comes back and it would at least be a little more entertaining.

Terrelle Pryor in Buffalo! Update: He's signing!
dgrochester55 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe they had limited options with no mobile QB and New England would have caught on. Adding Pryor to a wildcat would add a more mobile person who does have qb experience. Not a long term solution, but maybe gets the team by for a game or two until Allen returns. It is sad that it would come down to actually thinking that this is a good idea, but in my opinion it would have to at least be a little better than Anderson or Peterman. Those two have thrown more touchdowns to the defense than they have to the offense over the course of a year. -
Terrelle Pryor in Buffalo! Update: He's signing!
dgrochester55 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the signing. He's not a franchise WR by any means, but is easily the best receiver on this team. If Peterman is that bad this week, maybe Buffalo should just run some wildcat type offense with Pryor and McCoy. Anything is better than the offense that Buffalo has had this year minus the Vikings game. -
IF THE BILLS WERE TO EVER LEAVE BUFFALO
dgrochester55 replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am already fading on the NFL, "it has gone from Sunday is football day and i something interrupts it, it had better be an emergency" to "Lets see what is happening in the Bills game, oh no 14-0, its a nice fall day, lets go outside". If the Bills ever left, I am certain that i would stick to college football, and as far as NFL only watch the playoffs and super bowl as part of a get together where the primary goal was catching up with everyone, but the game was in the background, -
Pegulas mentioned by name in Eric Reid story

So does this mean that we are NOT going to add Eric Reid as a free agent next year? -
March 2013 version of me would be excited about Matt Barkley in Buffalo. October 2018 version.....not so much.

The defense is good. Good to the point where even if the offense was mediocre, this team would be competitive. Unfortunately, the offense is historically bad. This team might find a way to eek out another win or two, but it is going to be a long year. The best hope is that when Allen comes back, he can develop into a better QB and get a little more out of the offense in some of the later games.

In all fairness, Tom Brady was once benched for Drew Henson in college. Doesn't mean that I agree with the OP, but you never know. Kidding aside, until this year Dungey was better than any Syracuse QB since McNabb including Nassib. He always reminded me of a poor man's Tim Tebow. I think Dungey gets a shot somewhere as a late round pick or UDFA. If not as a QB, then converted to another position. He is a great athlete, but a little inconsistent at QB.

"Join a team that made the playoffs last year" they said. "Don't worry, you're just mentoring the rookie" they said......This is completely different from what I was told in the job interview, I am leaving a scathing review on indeed.com as soon as I get home -
I was very wrong about Tyrod & have to own it.
dgrochester55 replied to twoandfourteen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod was a mediocre quarterback, but mediocre is better than bad or off the charts terrible. Yes, Allen was drafted, but you always need a good backup option with a rookie. Buffalo could have kept Taylor but decided to trade him out of nowhere. They at least signed McCarron which would have been a credible replacement, but traded him. They instead went into the season with a rookie who everyone universally agreed needed to be brought in slowly and a second year 5th round draft picks who's primary experience was the 5 INT debacle. They are lucky to even be 2-5 and I would be surprised to see more than 4 wins. Taylor and McCarron aren't world beaters, but I am certain with them that Buffalo wins at least the Houston game and maybe today's too. Beane and McDermott had a very successful year one, but made some God awful off season decisions. I would like to see at least this year and next year before a regime change is done, but something has to be done to change how decisions are made when acquiring players and choosing who to keep. -

dgrochester55 replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Terrible choice, but Anderson. At least he has had some degree of success in the past and has a chance to improve a little. Anderson also has the excuse of not playing for two years and only being on the team for two weeks. Peterman may honestly be one of the worst starting qb's of all time. -
Allen is week to week, not severely injured, lets get that out of the way. The only way that drafting a QB makes sense in the next draft is if a decently rated qb falls to the 4th or 5th round and they are drafted to be groomed as a backup/failsafe option. Buffalo invested too much in Allen and people are giving up way too soon. For better or worse, Buffalo isn't drafting another QB high for at least two more years.

Derek Anderson to start vs Colts
dgrochester55 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anderson is by no means great, but Peterman could not be out there again. The Colts are not good either, and the game is winnable. If the defense can play like they have been, I think Anderson is a good enough game manager to eek out a win here. -
Joe B: Zay Jones is the Bills #1 WR at this point
dgrochester55 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Zay Jones has improved since last year and could become a decent player, but him being #1 is more of a testament to how bad this group is than how good Zay is. On most other teams , he would be a #3 or #4 option. -
If Anderson is physically able he should start next week
dgrochester55 replied to VW82's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peterman needs to go. I don't care if a less than 100% Josh Allen, Derek Anderson with limited playbook knowledge or even someone else off of the street starts next week, someone else other than Peterman has to start. Peterman has 11 interceptions in 91 pass attempts, let that sink in for a bit. Maybe Peterman get it done in practice and preseason but something does not click in a real game. That is more that a rookie mistake or bad game, that is a disturbing pattern. It's not going to happen for Peterman it never will, it is time to move on. -
If it was a good receiver or even a so so receiver who was working hard, I might say that this was taken out of context or overblown, but with Benjamin it is more cause for concern. He clearly does not want to be here and/or play football altogether. I think its too late to scratch him now, but he should not see the field again this year. Buffalo has everything to gain and nothing to lose as far as Wide receiver performance. I would rather have them give a practice squad guy a chance than an overrated underachiever who does not care.
-
I don't see a need for this. Buffalo is not out of it officially yet and McCoy seems to want to be here. The only way that this would make any sense is to trade for players as positions of need such as interior line or receiver. Three of the next four games are very winnable, it is way too early to mail it in for picks.
-
I do not see this happening. Buffalo traded McCarron with the hopes that Peterman was able to serve as the stop gap or backup. That clearly did not work out. It would make no sense to sign Anderson is there wasn't an intent to eventually replace Peterman this year as the backup. I'm only surprised that it didn't happen sooner. Peterman is only on the roster until Anderson gets up to speed with the playbook. I like the idea of the signing, I just hope we didn't lose Marlowe by gambling on being able to put him back on the practice squad.

Priority: Develop Allen or Win Ugly?
dgrochester55 replied to Berky1010's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yesterday is the best way to develop Allen for the time being. Why does anyone think that this is an either/or? We all knew that he was going to be a multi-year project. Poor planning by the team in the offseason and preseason caused us to rush putting him in behind a terrible line and possibly the worst WR corp that I have ever seen on any NFL team. It makes no sense to have Allen air it out like Brady or Rodgers would with this offensive unit. That would be certain failure for Allen or any of the other three rookie QB's playing. Yes, the stats are ugly. Yes ,Buffalo should have planned better before the season, but they didn't and the situation is as it presents itself until next year. I am just glad that they look like they are signing Derek Anderson to give Allen a veteran mentor and guarantee us not seeing Peterman if Allen is hurt or benched. -
Zay Jones is still worth keeping as I have seen a little improvement since he started, but the rest can go for all I care. There have been other recent bad receiving corps, but those at least had Lee Evans or Stevie Johnson as a semi decent #1. Benjamin is a complete joke this year. Problem is, WR is one of the hardest positions to walk right into and be ready to contribute five days after being signed by a team. I am on board with cutting the dead weight and trying other options out, but it may take a few weeks for them to fully adjust.

Big picture is just life with a rookie qb
dgrochester55 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen was a raw prospect. Every scouting report univerisally said that this was not a player that should be a short term option and that he would need time. He has actually progressed more than many thought so far. Today was bad, but he did not have any help from his line or wide receivers. That being said he was bad too, but I'm not going to give up on him after one game. My biggest worry is that this regime planned poorly for this. They gave him no help at line, or wide receiver or a reliable veteran QB to keep the helm until Allen was ready. I hope that Allen can stay strong and make it through this year. -
I like much of what this organization is doing, but what has happened on wide receivers makes no sense. Benjamin could still turn out OK if he stops dropping passes, but it pains me to regularly see four receivers (Watkins, Woods, Goodwin and Hogan) that were once Bills produce every week and know that they would likely be a better #1 at this point than Benjamin. It's ok not to retain people if the price isn't right, and at the time, cases could have been stated for not retaining the four that I mentioned. However, if you get rid of people, you have to replace them with something better or at least comparable. As of now, Buffalo has failed to do that by a long shot.
