I get why fans don't like the trade but think about it, how much longer can you bank on Watkins potential rather than what he really is? You state you think we could have landed more for Watkins, are you insinuating that he didn't try to get more for him? I think the Rams will have a top pick in the 2nd round, Cooks netted the Saints the 32nd overall pick, I think Watkins at this point is the lesser player and we got fair value, you also state we got a player in E.J. Gaines, you call him a bad player, you did know he won all 1st rookie honors in his rookie season correct? Bad players don't win those types of things in my eyes at least. You're judging him solely on his season last year, after his rookie season he had a terrible lisfranc injury and missed his entire 2nd year, came back this year and struggled, the jury is still out with him but to just blindly call him a bad player because he isn't a household name is a mistake imo. You state were weak at WR, let me ask you this, when Watkins went down with injury last season we were starting Robert Woods, Marquise Goodwin and Greg Salas. Do you really believe Jordan Matthews, Anquan Boldin and Zay Jones is a worse bunch then those 3 I mentioned? I think were much improved imo, I didn't add Watkins because he wasn't in the lineup for almost the entire season, he was injured the year before also. We have a solid trio right now, are they record breakers? Most likely not but they are more than capable of making it to the playoffs if we can all stay healthy. How could you possibly know who will be drafted where before the college football season begins or ends?

Riduculous trades that won't ever happen, knowledge of football other than video game ratings, I can go on and on but it's not worth it and who am I, right?

Beane said in his opening interview upon being hired that he isn't a big splash in FA guy, I believe him. We will build through the draft while trying to sign gems in FA at discount prices. I think we'll resign Matthews and hopefully we'll have our Fitzgerald/Boldin combo in Jordan Matthews and Zay Jones, both of which weren't speed demons like our guys. Find an underneath John Brown type of player in the later rounds, we can then focus on the OL, life without Ritchie incognito is coming very soon, RG John Miller and C Eric Wood can both be upgraded also imo.

Watkins/Woods were on this team together, what did they accomplish? I'm not saying neither is talented, both are but i think as fans we over value players, Watkins can be on an elite level but will he ever be? Now he has Goff throwing to him, unless that guy is a totally different mindset this season, Sammy will be tweeting about "getting him" the ball.

We will finally get our franchise QB, don't be scared of it, embrace it. Peterman will be a solid backup to him.

I see it totally different than alot of people on here, if we were tanking we wouldn't have replaced Watkins or Darby with adequate replacements, Whether you like Matthews or not he's said to be a leader, he's played as WR 1/2 and slot and has been productive over the same time Watkins played with multiple Qb's, also stays healthy. I don't know much about Gaines but after reading up on him he's won all rookie honors and then had that injury , came back last season and struggled a bit, sounds like Darby without the major injury. If beane wanted to tank i think he'd go with Holmes or Streater and not replace Watkins with a high caliber play much like Darby. I know these are fan favorites but if we can finally get that franchise QB we can stop being New Englands door mat, I can't wait for that day I don't know about you guys but we now have plenty of ammo to move up the draft board, not only that but Matthews can be an excellent complimentary player along with the WR we pick up in the draft next year .

Oh I thought this was a this year type of thing. Ok I'll go with a Bills WR when we draft Josh Rosen next year, Zay Jones will then be our Pro Bowler since there is no way the Rams can let Sammy walk without a contract after giving up a 2nd round pick for him and Goff just seems like he's having a rough time picking up the NFL caliber playbook imo.

I don't think the first option is fair, how about a neither option for Watkins or Bills WR on roster making pro Bowl, no way Goff throwing to watkins will make Pro Bowl and we were last in the league in passing so i say neither.

I don't think the real question should be "Will Tyrod taylor be traded", the real question should be at this point, "Will Reggie Ragland be traded". He was said not to be a scheme fit, but for a team like GB, PITT, CHIC or SD there definitely could be a fit, I like Ragland and thought he did alright in his debut the other night but if we can get fair value that's a guy I'd be looking at, maybe shore up our RT situation with a good player.

Maybe they thought the foot wasn't healing properly? Maybe they weren't comfortable paying Watkins a huge contract that didn't equal what he was doing on the field, We now have plenty of ammo to move up in the draft for a franchise QB if we exceed expectations. People are acting as if Matthews is some scrub, he's actually a quite capable WR2 or slot WR, he had his best season under Chip Kelly as the WR 1 but I think that will be Boldin, Matthews as WR2 and Jones in the slot, just my opinions though.

So you're saying YPC is now the standard for being an elite WR? How does this stat equal to him being a top 10 elite Wr, this I have to hear. He has not been healthy in any season so how can you state "So please, this notion that when healthy he is not a top 10 WR" , how can you even make this statement? He hasn't ever been healthy so that is just you and other fans seeing him as what he's supposed to be (elite) rather than what he in truth as of right now really is (Above Average). Again for the 2nd time, I have bolded your statement, he has never been healthy, not once since being drafted and again you are basing this off of you own interpretation of him rather than what he really is.

Ok you through out a "I don't care what you say" at me so I'm throwing my own "I don't care what you say" at you, Watkins hasn't been a top 10 WR so far, he's never been healthy in any season fully and he shouldn't even have been our pick, it should have been Khalil Mack by a mile.

I'm not trying to argue on this matter but when I hear drop off it baffles me since Sammy Watkins last year had 28 catches, 430 yards and 2 TD, Matthews had 73 catches, 804 yards and 3 TD, the year before is quite similar also. I think fans are basing Sammy Watkins production on what he's supposed to be rather than what he is right now. I can honestly say with Darby I was wondering how this regime viewed him since he'd be in a different scheme fit and I got my answer when he was traded. I know nothing about Gaines who we picked up but i do know Darby was benched last year for spotty play, I also know how talented he was as a rookie so we'll see there what Gaines has to offer, he's obviously a better scheme fit if he is who they wanted and should replace Darby on the depth chart, all I know is that I just saw an interview with Wade Phillips praising Gaines and that he was vying for the starter role in preseason so that's very encouraging to me, Just my opinions.

I personally loved the moves, how anyone can get mad is beyond me, we are gearing up for a franchise QB in 2018 and we'll finally get our wish so cheer up butter cups. I know Watkins was a fan favorite but unfortunately he has never lived up to his hype or draft status, I was wondering why he didn't get his option picked up and now I know, we got Darby's replacement and a high 2nd round pick for him. If you look at both Matthews and Watkins stats side by side without the one sided glasses on they're quite similar plus Matthews is a bit taller. I'm excited for this coming 2018 draft, I think we'll still be competitive but if we aren't it's a win - win situation and we have plenty of ammo to move up the draft if we exceed our expectations also.

I've never understood why former HOF players weren't brought in more to teach these guys what it takes to win, that includes Flutie/Molds/Ted Washington/Takeo Spikes/London Fletcher/Drew Bledsoe etc. Or just at the very least give these new guys some advice.

This sport will never die, all these players know the risks now, it's public knowledge and there was even a movie on it starring Will Smith, some of the smarter players left the game (Willis, Borland, Johnson) but these other guys are chasing the money so the risk is probably worth it to them at least for now, Just my opinion.

I want him to make us competitive in each game but we still lose them so we can get our real QB in 2018, I have waited 17 years I can wait 1 more.
