You could have just looked up the stats of his contemporaries. He was never elite even in his day. What got him to Canton was 4 SBs and an extremely long career (16 seasons) with high aggregate stats. During his career his was never higher than 5th in receiving and hit that mark only twice (89 & 94). He was over 1300 yards both of those seasons , but his next two highest are just over 1100 and just over 1k. He was never top 5 in TDs in a season. Andre Rison was a far better play who isnt in the HoF. So is Sterling Sharpe. Henry Ellard was arguably even better.

Well, Beane's track record isn't so great, so not sure I put much faith in him.
-
That's not the way it works. You have to pay t either way. One way you get something for it, the other way you get nothing. People are acting like he's washed up like Von Miller when he posted top 7-13 stats in every receiving category last year. The non-logic people are using to justify this deal is hilarious.
-
Good point? You'd have the player on the roster. That's like saying you can save $300 you planned on spending on groceries by lighting $250 on fire and then just not eating. The math only works if you ignore what the values represent.

If Reed didn't play in 4 Super Bowls, he wouldn't have one either. He never even had back to back 1000 yard seasons, only had 4 ever and only hit 10 TDs once in his career. if he played today, he might not be a top 30 player. Meanwhile Diggs has 6 consecutive 1k seasons, 2 seasons of 10+ TDs in 7 fewer seasons. Reed is near the top of the most overrated players of all time.

What a completely unhinged take that willfully ignores reality. Since Diggs got to Buffalo they've had extremely similar production:
-
The packers got a 1rst and a 2nd for Adams who's as close as comp as you'll get.
-
Anyone that grades a pick an 'A' where one team gives up a top 7 player at their position, $30M in cap space and two day 3 picks to receive a future 2nd round pick in compensation is delusional. For that to be an A, you'd have to be talking a first round pick or multiple early day 2 picks and a prospect with no other compensation going back the other way.
-
Or it could have been two seasons from now when his cap hit was meager. This braintrust also has other great contracts on the books like Von Miller. You think it's the "end of the story?" It's just the beginning, and it's not looking good.
-
Or, it's because you still have to pay for the player you don't have anymore while going out and getting another one. It's money you flushed down the drain with no return. In other words, you could have had Diggs for free had you just kept him and it would have saved you $3m.
-
Premier? They're gonna be lucky to get the 5th best prospect. They have no pathway to any of the top 3 without giving up 2 firsts and 2 second round picks. Did you like the Sammy Watkins trade, because that'll pale in comparison to what they'll have to give up to get "a premier prospect". Diggs was already a top 5-7 WR int he NFL. You're gambling to get someone even better in the late first?| Great plan.
-
It's happening because Beane created a hole where there wasn't one. This is NOT something that should be celebrated. Diggs + a Draft pick wasn't the strongest argument for making this team better, but removing Diggs and replacing him with a late first round rookie, makes this team worse in the short term with 100% certainty.
-
That's officially over. The window is slammed shut until at least 2026 now and that's if they draft a stud in the late first this year.
-
Reed wasn't half the player Diggs is.
-
With what money?
-
I thought this looked like a rebuild year before this trade and now it's 100% confirmed. Absolutely insane roster mismanagement. He might've been the only player left on the team that actually wanted to win a Super Bowl.

Chart of the last time a team drafted a ___ in the top 2 rounds
BullBuchanan replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not sure what's more wild, the Seahawks QB numbers or the Commanders iOL numbers. -
Based on?

That's kind of why everyone is doing this thing, so yea.

I said "a" sixth, not "the" sixth. The reason I specifically chose that words and not any others, is because I don't see how anyone can believe that we're just another pass catcher away from being a super bowl team. It's not like we had a lack of wide open receivers on the final drive against KC when Allen drilled the ball in the dirt. It's not like one more receiver would have stopped Mahomes from driving the length of the field as time expires to beat us again. Even if the receiver we draft is elite (huge assumption), what is your pathway for this to be a team that beats Kansas city while we've averaging an allowed points of 35.6 across our last 3 playoff meetings?
-
There are 5 reasons currently on the team.
-
metcalf was a 64th pick. Hall was 36th. Neither one went in the first round. I don't think folks here adamant against taking a WR in the 2nd. Also, neither one has been a factor in making their team a contender, so despite being very good players, not sure it's a great argument for us to overinvest in one of them. Better draft a QB then, because there were multiple WRs open on that drive if that's your argument.
-
Oh, that's right, our deep linebacking pool definitely wasn't a key reason Josh was golfing again while other teams were playing for Super Bowls. Simpson was learning behind absolute studs last year. Now that they let Queen walk, he'll have his shot this year. Meanwhile, Allen will once again be golfing next January if you get your wish and we get a 6th passing option for the offense instead of addressing the primary reason our team is not a serious SB contender.
-
No, in my wildest dreams, he's Ed Reed. Just because I'm taking the best player that is also the most needed in the first, doesn't mean we take take WRs later. They can use every pick on receivers from the 3rd on as far as I'm concerned, though I would like to see us get depth LBs, a QB prospect and more secondary help there. I'll take this kid all day over the 6th best WR. Or Diggs.

99% of the this fanbase is completely clueless, so whatever they hate is usually the right move.
