OBJ is a great competitor and will be a great signing for most teams. For the Jets? With Aaron Rodgers? I'm hoping they sign OBJ. This reminds me of the 2011 Jets. They just finished back to back AFC Title game appearances. The hype surrounding the team was huge. They got Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes, Antonio Cromartie, Darelle Revis, Bart Scott, LaDanian Tomlinson, and Rex Ryan was full on "building a bully" mindset. They finished 8-8 and the team crumbled underneath the weight of so many ego-centric divas. PLEASE go to the Jets.

I wonder if Chiefs and Bengals fans have this same loser mentality with their franchise QBs.

Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
Rigotz replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’d rather have Greg Rousseau with 3 more years on his rookie deal than Hopkins, yes. It’s such a defeatist mindset to want to trade our picks away for players because Beane missed a couple picks. -

Yeah! And throw in our 1st while you’re at it because we don’t always hit on those either! I’d rather have an old $20M/yr player than a young $5M/yr player on a 5 year contract! It’s not like you can get those in Free Agency for free- wait a sec… -
For those who "don't understand the comp formula" it's really easy: 1) If you lose a valuable Free Agent (Tremaine Edmunds) that gets paid top of market value, you get a comp pick for them. 2) You can only receive this comp pick if you LOSE more "qualified free agents" than you gain. 3) A "qualified free agent" is a player that is not a free agent because he was cut AND his salary needs to be above a certain level (this year about $2.5M). (Thus, free agents can be signed and "not qualify" because they were either cut or their salary is low) If you spend all day on this message board and still can't put these 3 things together or you can't understand why people want free 3rd round picks... you probably shouldn't post your opinion on it.
-
Or Dawson Knox, but ya know, hey lets pretend 3rd round picks don't matter and "nobody cares about comp picks."
-
NEITHER count against us as free agents signings in the comp pick formula. ::chef’s kiss::

Can we take a moment to appreciate how truly stupid this post is? Haha Of all the things to be upset about, you’re upset that he’s the same height and weight as several hall of fame calibre running backs?
-
Not a coincidence that this news hits within 1 hour of the Singletary signing. Beane is watching the comp pick formula!
-
It’s crazy that people still don’t understand why we didn’t, even after Beane said they’re looking for a different body type. We did not need Motor on offense. The skill set we needed was short distance running, pass blocking, and/or Special Teams. Motor is none of those things. Why would we make an offer?

Under-utilized would imply that he provided a ton of value that was untapped. His market was 1 year, up to $3.75M. Seems like everyone knew what he was and preferred to trust a $30M/yr Superstar QB instead when it mattered.

Bobby Wagner - the solution to the Edmunds problem
Rigotz replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
He was the #1 graded inside linebacker by PFF last season, so I’d say he wasn’t exactly a liability. -
Correct, and the problem with signing Singletary is you take one of our few available Free Agents off the board. It is very, very possible to get back in the positive by strategically signing only players who were cut or traded. Meanwhile, we need these guys to get contracts from other teams: Singletary, Roger Saffold, Jordan Phillips, Jamison Crowder, David Quessenberry, Shaq Lawson, Bobby Hart.... the rest are probably a stretch.
-
Big reason to want Fournette instead of Singletary and the other FA's: He doesn't count against the comp formula. We need to lose more players than we gain and players CUT don't count. Singletary was not cut. Fournette was. So, would you rather have Fournette and a 3rd round pick or Singletary?
-
We have a gaping hole at CB? You know we drafted Elam in the 1st last year and Tre White is fully healthy, while Taron Johnson is one of the best Nickel corners in the league and there's even better depth now with Benford and Dane Jackson as great #4 and #5 options. What exactly does Beane need to do better there?
-
Loved him as a person and locker room guy and will always remember that Patriots game. A few unforgivable dropped passes, a few unforgivable dropped returns, and just not enough of a consistent impact. We're all rooting for him and hoping for the best, but this move made a lot of sense.

The piece you’re missing here is if the player is actually good and believes in himself, he’s not going to sign a cheap long term deal when he doesn’t have to. That plan can also backfire horrifically. What deal would you have given Edmunds 2 years ago when he had proven nothing? It’s an unnecessary risk for both the player and the GM. You’re also missing some signings this year apparently as well. McGovern is very much an upside pick on a long term deal. Same with Harty. Beane is going above market in year 1 so he can potentially get a steal in the later years. That’s exactly what he did with Poyer and Hyde too. I appreciate the thought you put into this, but it was a big miss.

Singletary—inarguably above average statistically: discuss
Rigotz replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Did you create this thread just to argue with people? You’re not understanding my point. His skill set provides nothing that the team wouldn’t have by adding a power back and playing Cook in tandem. There are limited roster spots available and if he doesn’t even play special teams, there is zero reason to sign him. -

I’d be shocked at this point if he does. What value does he bring to our team? He’s not a special teamer. He’s not a good short yardage back. He’s not a great pass blocker. He’s not big enough to wear down defenses. There a loads of guys who can do these things VERY well and THAT is the skill set we need. If we re-sign Singletary, is the idea that we would have Cook, Singletary, Hines AND a power back in the backfield or do you just not want a power back on the team? It seems like a bad fit. Say what you want about the player, but we don’t need his skill set. -

Can’t say I didn’t warn you! -
All-in implies that you get one shot, then you’re screwed if it doesn’t work out. That sounds like horrific team building.

Something to consider, as Edmunds is now the #1 highest paid player at his position (ILB). This counts as a 3rd round pick in the comp pick formula. All we have to do is sign less unrestricted free agents than we lose to gain it.

This was an interesting watch... I wonder if McGovern is Mitch Morse insurance too with the concussion history:

"Up to $7.5M" over 3 years. These details matter. The guaranteed money is about $4M. So ... you have an issue with a good punter getting between $1.3M and a maximum of $2.3M per year?
