Trump foreign policy

Trump administration forces China to sell the Port of Long Beach The Trump Administration's Department of Homeland Security has forced China's state-owned Cosco* to sell the Port of Long Beach over security concerns. China's Cosco Shipping Holdings, which bought out its 75 percent–owned Hong Kong–based Orient Overseas International (OOCL), was forced to sell its Port of Long Beach Container Terminal ownership to Macquarie Infrastructure Partners for $1.78 billion. </snip> This from the comments: The headline is a little misleading. COSCO doesn't own the Port of Long Beach which is an enormous operation. COSCO has a container terminal in one section of the port. This goes back to the Clinton years. When the former Long Beach Naval Station and Shipyard was being closed, China wanted it and Bill Clinton was all for selling or leasing it to them. Saner heads prevailed and the deal didn't go through. The property eventually did become a gargantuan container port, but COSCO had to settle for much less pier space, and being just another tenant in the Port of Long Beach. -
More thoughts on the CNN departures: article: Sources tell FTVLive that CNN will cut as many as 300 employees, many being older employees with years at the network. Word is that just under 200 people will be pink slipped and just over 100 will be offered a buyout. What Could Have Caused This? CNN to Cut as Many as 300 Staffers CNN is planning to cut up to 300 jobs, "many being older employees with years at the network," according to a report on Monday. </snip> The website obtained an email that Tony Maddox, the executive vice president and managing director of CNN International, shared with staff announcing his departure. "After 21 years I am leaving CNN," Maddox wrote on Monday. "It has been the honor of my life to work for, and then lead CNN International. What a privilege to make a living doing such important work with truly outstanding people." </snip>

Something is up, but what? So many choices: Iran, Venezuela, Huawei... place your bets. -

The term deep state is simply a nomenclature to describe what has been going on with our government from within, and from outside influences, that are not in the best interests of the United States, but rather in the best interest of the highest bidder (follow the money), or ideology (follow the money). That is simply my definition of "deep state". Others may disagree. -

My guess... take a look if they are Ds, RINOs, GOPe, or #NeverTrumpers. See how long ago they were prosecutors, and under what administration. I am sure you can get 370 former prosecutors to say he'd never be charged regardless of who he is (usually you need a crime to be charged). That wouldn't fit the MSM narrative. What people fail to understand - purposefully or not - is a large part of the old Republican "establishment" does not like President Trump. They would be THRILLED if he was removed from office or not reelected so Washington could go back to business as usual. -

When Hubby and I got married, his mother gave us a commemorative plate with the date we got married. He looked at it and said, "WTF am I going to do with this?" I made him put it in his office. Over the years, we looked at that plate countless time - neither one of us knows our wedding date (all these years later, I still have to look. ). When that plate was broken during a flooring install, we didn't tell his mother, we just had another one made up... for our benefit, not hers. I blame no one who gets their wedding date wrong. ? -

2019 Movies You're Most Excited About?
Buffalo_Gal replied to Halloween Land's topic in Off the Wall Archives
My husband informed me last night we are going to see this. The first one I liked, the second one was "meh". I'm not enthused about seeing the third... I mean it is gonna be a super logical "John Wick vs the World". His house (that had no bulletproof glass or cameras anywhere) is burned down, he killed someone on the Continental ground, so no sanctuary (except he has a marker, soooo), he's got a $14M bounty on his head so everyone wants to claim it (as indicated by all the phone ringing as he was running from Winston everyone is an assassin) ... I simply expect more video-game shoot 'em ups like in the Catacombs... Can you tell I didn't care for the second one? ? -

All Roads Lead to the Ukraine
Buffalo_Gal replied to Deranged Rhino's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The fact that this article was anywhere near Vanity Fair is telling. No, it is not all anti-Biden, however, it is being reported as a story. In Vanity Fair! HUNTER BIDEN’S WORK IN UKRAINE EMERGES AS A POTENTIAL 2020 SCANDAL </snip> New reporting raises the question: were Hunter and Joe Biden’s overlapping interests in Ukraine coincidental, or corrupt? Or is Rudy Giuliani just pulling the media’s strings? n a move sure to trigger 2016 P.T.S.D., The New York Times has published a nearly 3,000-word tale of intrigue involving the Biden family’s various entanglements in Ukraine. In short, the story is this: in the final year of the Obama presidency, Vice President Joe Biden “threatened to withhold $1 billion in United States loan guarantees if Ukraine’s leaders did not dismiss the country’s top prosecutor”—Viktor Shokin—“who had been accused of turning a blind eye to corruption in his own office and among the political elite.” The pressure campaign also just so happened to benefit Biden’s younger son, Hunter, who was then getting paid as much as $50,000 to sit on the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian energy company that was in Shokin’s sights. The question the Times raises, but does not answer, is: were Joe’s and Hunter’s overlapping interests in Ukraine coincidental, or corrupt? </snip> -

Best BBQ in the Buffalo Area?
Buffalo_Gal replied to D. L. Hot-Flamethrower's topic in Off the Wall Archives
So, my husband was coming home from his survival "class" today. He called on his drive and asked about BBQ on the way home. I told him there was a thread in this group, and everything listed was pretty much the same ole-same ole that we already enjoy, none of which were "on the way home". Then I saw your link! I read off the menu from this place, so he decided to stop. He got a brisket sandwich, I got a fried bologna (haven't had one in years!) The chips that came with my sandwich appeared homemade, my sandwich itself seemed grilled. I liked it! He wasn't as thrilled with the brisket. I took a small taste and one thing I will say, it tasted like there was plenty of liquid smoke used in the preparation. Hubby said that they close most days at 2 pm, so it is a breakfast/lunch place. They are open late two days a week. It is cheap! Would we go again? No. I'd send him over to The Yelling Goat for a pick-up instead. But it is always interesting to try new places. I did mention to him that I appreciated the timeliness of his request to this thread, and your link. Thanks! ? -

With what he's paid, he can afford a bespoke suit. Yikes. -
What is everyone paying for a haircut these days?
Buffalo_Gal replied to SDS's topic in Off the Wall Archives
A visit to the salon is $130 + tip for me. I tip both my stylist and his assistant, so that brings it to over $170 for me. He just went on vacation, so I am sure his prices will go up next visit. I go every three weeks. Note: I never "just" get a haircut. I wouldn't know how much that is broken out. -

I do that with a bow and arrow. I'm cross-eye dominant (right handed, left eye dominant), and that can be an issue for some things. Too bad I am not a major league pitcher where it comes in handy. I am also left brain dominant.
