Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread

OK, I was drinking something. (seriously) That is just wrong... I will continue to laugh now that my beverage is all over my monitor. ? -
Well, it may get even better over the next 18 months as the House screeches "IMPEACH TRUMP" and does NOTHING to pass any form of legislation. Should be a real winner for them come November 2020.

The "National Emergency" Thread
Buffalo_Gal replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Oh, that'll be challenged... </snip> Under the pending procedural change, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officers would train Border Patrol agents on the southern border how to conduct "credible fear interviews," which immigrants must pass to go on to claim asylum. Agents would conduct the interviews shortly after apprehending people who have illegally crossed from Mexico to the U.S </snip> DHS is not planning to get congressional approval before implementing the change. Department officials believe they are within the law because an asylum officer must be an immigration official, which Border Patrol agents are considered to be. As long as agents get training on how to carry out those interviews and make those decisions, the department believes the plan is sound, a second official, who spoke on background in order to speak freely, explained. </snip> -
263k (Actual) vs 185k - 190K(Estimated) UE: 3.6% U6: 7.3% U.S. Added 263,000 Jobs in April; Unemployment Rate at 3.6% (the article is still an Eeyore ? ) The unemployment rate was 3.6 percent, the lowest in half a century. The rate was 3.8 percent in March. Average hourly earnings rose by 0.2 percent, which follows an increase of 0.1 percent in March. Over the last 12 months, earnings have risen by a healthy 3.2 percent, a hair’s breadth from the best level of the recovery. </snip>

On another political forum I belong to one of the guys - who is based in Pittsburgh - said that the local Dems were running around claiming credit for this yesterday. LOL SMH Welp, this secures Western PA for Trump. Can voter fraud in Philly overcome it?

Awww don't chase him off. I think he has potential. He's still #OrangeManBad but he is willing to engage, and not stupidly (ala Tibs, that BigM guy, etc). And goodness knows "the other side" needs another voice down here. Doc Brown can't be all alone. -
All Roads Lead to the Ukraine
Buffalo_Gal replied to Deranged Rhino's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
And we are pickin' up speed. This is getting interesting. ? Ukrainian embassy confirms DNC contractor solicited Trump dirt in 2016 The boomerang from the Democratic Party’s failed attempt to connect Donald Trump to Russia’s 2016 election meddling is picking up speed, and its flight path crosses right through Moscow’s pesky neighbor, Ukraine. That is where there is growing evidence a foreign power was asked, and in some cases tried, to help Hillary Clinton. In its most detailed account yet, Ukraine’s embassy in Washington says a Democratic National Committee insider during the 2016 election solicited dirt on Donald Trump’s campaign chairman and even tried to enlist the country's president to help. In written answers to questions, Ambassador Valeriy Chaly's office says DNC contractor Alexandra Chalupa sought information from the Ukrainian government on Paul Manafort’s dealings inside the country, in hopes of forcing the issue before Congress. </snip> -

The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency
Buffalo_Gal replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, not exactly Trump-related, but it still fits. The MSM are a buncha hacks. BTW, they were banned on Facebook and IG (IG is owned by Facebook). Since Google basically banned them via youtube and search suppression, they have all been un-personed, and their livelihoods impacted. Agree with them or not, this is just wrong. The Atlantic article: Instagram and Facebook Ban Far-Right Extremists Alex Jones, Infowars, Milo Yiannopoulos, Paul Joseph Watson, Laura Loomer, Paul Nehlen, and Louis Farrakhan have all been removed from the platforms. I see @Deranged Rhino beat me to it. ? -

If this was already posted here, I apologize. This is on the official Donald J Trump youtube page, and titled "Obama Knew" President Obama knew Russia was interfering in the 2016 election, but his administration just watched it happen. In fact, Obama’s cyber team was told to “stand down” from countering Russian meddling in order to protect the disastrous Iran deal. There is no doubt: On Russian interference in 2016, Obama dropped the ball. -

The Hill wants in on this story... FBI sent undercover investigator to meet with Papadopoulos in 2016: report </snip> The previously unreported episode comes amid growing scrutiny over the FBI's actions toward President Trump's 2016 campaign. Trump has repeatedly accused the FBI of spying on his campaign, an allegation Attorney General William Barr has said he plans to look into. </snip> -

Hmmmm apparently this is a problem not because the Trump campaign was spied on, but because it means Trump was right, they were spied on. F.B.I. Sent Investigator Posing as Assistant to Meet With Trump Aide in 2016 </snip> The decision to use Ms. Turk in the operation aimed at a presidential campaign official shows the level of alarm inside the F.B.I. during a frantic period when the bureau was trying to determine the scope of Russia's attempts to disrupt the 2016 election, but could also give ammunition to Mr. Trump and his allies for their spying claims. </snip> As usual, Mollie Hemingway is all over it: (thread) -
Best BBQ in the Buffalo Area?
Buffalo_Gal replied to D. L. Hot-Flamethrower's topic in Off the Wall Archives
One-Eyed Jack's is excellent. In addition to take-out, we will go in and buy trays for various functions, and we will buy an extra quart of sauce to have in the fridge. Sticky Face - Oliver St, North Tonawanda, the ends... so bad for you, yet so very, very good. Suzy-Qs - my niece worked there for years. LOL oh, the stories. SMH (nothing to do with the cleanliness of the kitchen, just how the place was run) -
Agreed on the email. Whose idea it was? Well, that is a question for the ages. And, again, I do not think Obama didn't know about the soft-coup. After reading the Page-Strzok text messages there is no doubt he knew. Whose idea was it? What did the President know and when did he know it... real question, and (possibly) pertinent. There is no denying he could have put the kibosh on the entire coup once he learned of it (so the fact that he didn't, does that make him an accessory?) Maybe there are records that show Obama told them to shut it down, and he was ignored? (Wow, wouldn't that be a twist!?) Like so many others, I do not want to believe a sitting President would be involved in subverting the will of the American people through illegal acts. I could not stand Obama, but he was still my president while he was in office. The tragedy of knowing he was seditious... let's hope it is not true.
-
I think he'd pardon him to avoid ANY unrest - racial or otherwise IF he's complicit (is turning a blind eye complicit?), which he may not be. My guess (just a guess) is Obama knew what was going on after the ball got rolling, but he was not the person who began the soft-coup. As they say, what did the President know, and when did he know it? I am very hopeful this investigation does not lead directly to him.

This is a long, but extremely interesting article on a (possible) play by Trump's attorneys: Checkmate </snip> Clearly, though, Mueller was undeterred by the Trump team’s legal argument. And why would he be? This was not a lawsuit or a criminal proceeding. It was an investigation. Dowd and Sekulow couldn’t go in front of a judge and demand the investigation be stopped; no judge had jurisdiction. But if Trump’s legal team couldn’t persuade Mueller to let go of his obstruction theory, the investigation could go on indefinitely. Any act that could be characterized as “impeding” the Russia probe – even the exercise of core Article II powers or Trump’s complaints about Mueller – could conceivably be investigated as potential obstruction of justice. Rather than ending by Thanksgiving 2017, the Mueller investigation could continue through Trump’s first term – and perhaps longer. Dowd and Sekulow needed to come up with an answer. And that’s why I think they turned to Bill Barr. ENTER BARR On June 8, 2018, Bill Barr wrote a detailed memorandum to Rod Rosenstein about what he believed was Mueller’s interpretation of 18 U.S.C. § 1512(c)(2). While Barr professed to be “in the dark about many facts,” in light of the Mueller Report, it’s clear he knew *exactly* what Mueller was up to. There are other interesting things to note about this memorandum. First, it’s addressed to Rod Rosenstein and Steve Engel – not to Mueller, Weissmann, or the Special Counsel’s office, which were running the Trump investigation. In that respect, it’s distinct from the Trump team’s prior letters, which were sent directly to Mueller. </snip>
