  1. I had a feeling this post would be hilariously awful as soon as I saw the title. Then I saw who the author was, and I knew FOR SURE it would be hilariously awful. It did not let me down. Comic gold.
  2. I'm in the "unless its a hurricane or you're frail or physically limited in some way, you should ALWAYS return the cart" camp. Always. I can understand not doing so during a severe thunderstorm. But some rain and wind? Please. It's just a tiny bit of common courtesy and decency. Like not taking up two spots when parking or bussing your own table in restaurants that ask you to do so. I agree with the OP that shopping cars are the perfect litmus test because of the lack of threat or repercussion. The question is, with no reward or punishment forthcoming, are you going to do the right and decent thing?
  3. Shall I assume you're against waving the confederate flag at sporting events, then?
  4. By....by playing the Black National Anthem? Huh. I'll never understand the things that upset some people.
  5. Let me know when brain damage starts being contagious and, thus, able to be transmitted to family, friends, and others in the community. There’s a big difference between knowingly engaging in a violent sport for millions of dollars and being shoved out onto the field during a deadly and highly contagious viral pandemic with no vaccine.
  6. You're right. I WOULD classify your post and its title as peak stupidity.
  7. As much as I want there to be a 2020 NFL season...if it means endangering athletes and coaches by pushing them out onto the field in the midst of a deadly pandemic in the name of the almighty dollar, I'd rather they just cancelled the season. It's bad enough that the NFL pretends to care about the health and safety of its players while constantly engaging in actions that put them in greater danger (Thursday night games, adding a 17th game to the season), but to now potentially stage a season in the midst of massive nationwide spikes in COVID numbers (and don't forget, the second wave that may be yet to come, despite the fact that we haven't even exited the first wave yet)? I just don't see how they can do it safely. I hope, hope, hope I'm wrong. But when it's all said and done, I don't need 1,600 athletes and 32 coaching staffs full of people to put their lives and their families' lives in danger for my entertainment. Life, health, and safety are more important than sports.
  8. The master of hyperbole, exaggeration, and pessimism is at it again. At least you’re consistent.
  9. Guess you missed the part where I said three teams in NFL history won a Lombardi with a backup QB in the lineup.
  10. "If the starting QB goes down, your season is basically over" is the dumbest/weakest football statement that can possibly be made. Every team in the league's season is basically over if their starting QB goes down. I believe three teams in NFL history have won championships with backup QBs in the lineup. That's it. Do you really think Joe Flacco is taking the Jets to a Lombardi Trophy? Essentially, if the biggest hole on your roster, and the only one to which a fan of a rival team can reasonably point to, is BACKUP QB, then it means you have an extremely good roster. Ya know what's a bigger impediment to winning football games? Not having any good pass rushers or cornerbacks. That's the position the Jets are in. All things considered, I'll take "mediocre backup QB situation" over "no pass rushers or cornerbacks" all day long.
  11. I called this the day Newton was released by Carolina. I'm sure a lot of other people did, too, so I realize I'm not exactly Nostradamus here. Still, I never believed for one second that they were gonna go into the 2020 season depending on just Stidham and Hoyer. I predict they win 10 games (assuming there's a season).
  12. The Gatehouse is on a similar wavelength. Garlic-parm fries, more of a vinegar-based pasta salad as opposed to mac salad (controversial to some, I'm sure, but it's a good change). Higher quality burger patties and meat sauce, and two big old onion rings on top. I was skeptical when a friend took me there after a long day traveling to and from a Bills win, but my skepticism quickly abated once I tried it. It was really good.
  13. I'm a Grateful Dead fan, so this question had me searching through their songbook for anything under 3 minutes. Needless to say, you're more likely to find a 30 minute Dead tune than a 3 minute Dead tune. With that being said, here's a classic that fits the "under three" bill. Classic Pigpen:
  14. Dogtown on Monroe Ave is #1 in my heart for garbage plates. And for a fancy pants version of a garbage plate, the Gatehouse in Village Gate Square is pretty damned good:
  15. Dalai Lama (if I could get him to drink a beer, that is) Gary Snyder Bob Weir Norm Macdonald Larry David Good mix there, I think. Spirituality, wisdom, literature, music, comedy, and...whatever you consider Larry David to be. Even though you're clearly trying to make fun of me here.....I do like free beer. So if you're buying, I'm game.
  16. https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/24/us/coronavirus-cases-protests-black-lives-matter-trnd/index.html Despite warnings from public health officials, new research suggests Black Lives Matter protests across the country have not led to a jump in coronavirus cases. A new study, published this month by the National Bureau of Economic Research, used data on protests from more than 300 of the largest US cities, and found no evidence that coronavirus cases grew in the weeks following the beginning of the protests. But by all means, please keep following me from thread to thread with your weird vendetta.
  17. Even if you use “cases per 100,000 people” metric, Oregon (now seeing its 29th straight night of protests) lags far behind the early re-opening states in COVID cases. By a lot.
  18. Scenario: 2020 AFC Championship game, Gailey/Fitz Dolphins vs Bills. Where is your allegiance?
  19. Yes. Health and public safety be damned. We need to see Josh throw the ball out of the stadium.
  20. Actually, the spike in COVID numbers in states that held the largest protests pales in comparison to the spikes in red states that re-opened early and with no mask-wearing protocols, where people pack into bars and restaurants. Minnesota (where George Floyd was murdered) is adding about 250 cases a day. Oregon, which has seen 22 straight days of protests in Portland, some as large as 12,000 people, is adding about 160 cases a day. Meanwhile, Arizona, Texas, and Georgia are adding cases by the THOUSANDS every day. Too-early reopening in states with no mask protocols has been responsible for VASTLY more infections than masked protests. If you don’t believe me, go look at the numbers yourself.
  21. Not only what HardyBoy said, but if you are admittedly "unsure" about masks being effective but are choosing not to wear them, can you please stay home and not go into any public spaces ever? Because choosing not to wear a mask in public spaces puts OTHER PEOPLE in danger. So when you say "I just disagree, no problem"...Well...it IS a problem, because you're endangering the lives of others. It would be like if I said "ya know what? I've educated myself as I can about using using the 'safety' switch on my gun, and I just don't agree with it. So when we hang out in common spaces, I'm gonna walk around with my gun and not have the safety on. No Problem". You see? It IS a problem. It's not just YOU that is affected by this choice!
  22. I stand by what I said. You're making a selfish choice. By the way, Below is a link to a recent study on the matter, which I just posted a link to above your post. And one more thing. Ya know all the other countries...ya know, the ones that have essentially beat COVID and are starting to return to normal life? Masks. They all wore masks. But sure, continue to ignore science and real world results and continue to pretend like there's actually a reasonable debate about effectiveness of masks in mitigating the spread of COVID. Knock yourself out. If everyone thinks like you do, maybe we'll get to have a football season sometime a couple years from now. God forbid you have to undergo a SLIGHT bit of discomfort by wearing a scrap of fabric over your face for a few months. https://www.pnas.org/content/early/2020/06/10/2009637117#sec-5 "Our analysis reveals that the difference with and without mandated face covering represents the determinant in shaping the trends of the pandemic worldwide. We conclude that wearing of face masks in public corresponds to the most effective means to prevent interhuman transmission, and this inexpensive practice, in conjunction with extensive testing, quarantine, and contact tracking, poses the most probable fighting opportunity to stop the COVID-19 pandemic, prior to the development of a vaccine. It is also important to emphasize that sound science should be effectively communicated to policy makers and should constitute the prime foundation in decision-making amid this pandemic"
  23. Even if, in your opinion, the science about masks is "unproven", that still means that you concede that there is a possibility that masks DO help. Like I said: If there's even a 10% chance that masks will help slow the spread of this virus and thus, save lives, and you're STILL choosing not to wear one, it's selfishness, pure and simple. You can say "it's just my opinion". The problem is that your "opinion" in this instance is leading you to do something that can potentially put other people's LIVES in danger. The FIRST LINE of the link you posted says that Fauci has been an immunologist for 34 years. But I suppose I'll believe you and the random Twitter friends you keep quoting instead of, ya know, experts in the fields of epidemiology and immunology. Let me repeat: This is the problem. Too many people think that their OPINIONS -- based on having spent about 10 minutes reading pseudo-science and lies from random dingbats on Twitter and not vetting these opinions to confirm their veracity -- are worth as much as those of trained experts and scientific studies. https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarahhansen/2020/06/13/masks-help-stop-the-spread-of-coronavirus-studies-say-but-wearing-them-still-a-political-issue/#1b8b343c604e https://www.pnas.org/content/early/2020/06/10/2009637117#sec-5 "Our analysis reveals that the difference with and without mandated face covering represents the determinant in shaping the trends of the pandemic worldwide. 24. I quoted an article from a national source that people have heard of, that includes results of studies that have been done on the subject. You, thus far, have quoted two tweets from some random people on Twitter with less than 1,000 followers. That's the problem our country currently faces in a nutshell: In many people's eyes, the opinion of some random lunatic on the internet counts for as much as scientific studies. "I've researched the subject" means "I read about it for 10 minutes on some guy's Twitter feed". People think their OPINIONS have as much weight as SCIENCE. That's the problem.
