  1. I said this last night, but I think Bills fans need to prepare for the very real possibility that the 2nd round pick is spent on a DB. They had Juan Thornhill and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson both in for visits. They also love Rock Ya-Sin and Byron Murphy. McDermott wants to run the Big Nickel with someone better and more dangerous than Rafael Bush. Don't be shocked to hear a defensive back's name called tonight.
  2. I am 100% all in on Metcalf in the 2nd. I didn't want him at 9. That's too high to take a guy with his potential risks. But at 40? Yes. Yes all day. He's EXACTLY what our WR corps needs.
  3. Quinnen is great. In fact, all three of the AFC East teams drafted quality DTs that should hopefully shorten Brady's career a bit! ?
  4. Good post. Here were my quick hit thoughts last night after the 1st round, which I put into another thread. Quick thoughts from round 1:Gruden's pick 4 curveball. Seems like quite a reach.Giants selecting Daniel Jones at 6. ALSO seems like quite a reach. The above two things combined to make the Oliver to Bills outcome possible. Thanks Gruden and Gettleman! So glad I don't have to worry about Rashan Gary any more.So glad I don't have to spend any more mental energy on whether Jonah Williams is a tackle or a guard.TJ Hockenson, we hardly knew ye.Falcons were bummed that Dolphins took Wilkins. Atlanta stuck to their board, took Lindstrom at guard. Fans were not pleased.First one team jumped in front of poor Houston, but didn't take a tackle. Then a SECOND team jumped in front of Houston, and this one DID take a tackle. Houston was stuck reaching for Dillard because they HAD to have a tackle. See "painting yourself into a corner and having to draft for need".Brian Burns to Panthers is a perfect fit.N'Keal Harry to Patriots really surprised me.I thought the Raiders draft stunk from top to bottom. I don't see any of the three guys they drafted being true difference makers.Onto round 2!
  5. Just what the title says. At least in the past decade, I really can't remember this much consensus approval among Bills fans over the player chosen with our 1st round pick. Maybe it's because no one thought Oliver would last to the 9th pick, maybe it's because it was such a meeting of value with need (and with Oliver's badass, quarterback-destroying acumen). Whatever the reason, I feel like I only saw two or three belly-achers on the board after the pick was announced, which is extremely rare. Bills fans seem to be in rare agreement about the draft, at least for one brief, shining moment. I'm sure we'll rectify this problem once the second round begins. ?
  6. It'll be either Rock Ya-Sin or Oruwariye from Penn State.
  7. 2nd round seems like the perfect time for a WR. I predict they take either a CB or a Safety. Brandon Beane said "you guys don't believe me, but I'm gonna take the best player available". Well, right now, there's tremendous value sitting out there at S and CB. He'll either get some serious competition for Levi Wallace or he'll get a guy at safety that will allow him to finally run his Big Nickel package. And to those who say we have too many corners already (and I was in this camp recently):I don't necessarily agree. They'll probably keep 5 corners, right? White Wallace Johnson Draftee Gaines vs Johnson for roster spot.

  9. I started watching NFL Network's draft coverage out of necessity (I get the network as part of my NFL Gamepass membership, but do not have ESPN). I'm so glad I did. It is leaps and bounds better than ESPN's, IMO.
  10. Ravens let Smokey Brown go because Jackson couldn't get him the ball. Then they draft Hollywood Brown to do what Smokey Brown did...except, again, Jackson couldn't get the FIRST Brown the ball, so... Spinning their wheels.
  11. Seattle will trade one of their 1st round picks. They LOVE trading down into the 2nd and saving a little coin. Will Bills be the team to trade with them? Jawaan Taylor? DK Metcalf?
  12. Texans drafting Tytus Howard is what "drafting for need" looks like in action. Eagles jumped them for Dillard. They knew they NEEDED a tackle, and were forced to reach for Howard. Falcons drafting Chris Lindstrom is what sticking to BPA looks like in action. Dolphins took Christian Wilkins from them, so they stuck to their board and didn't panic.
  13. Just wanted to say that I legitimately miss Mike Mayock on the NFL Network Draft Coverage. No one else they have is as good or as knowledgeable as him. ...On the other hand, thanks to Mike Mayock the GM for taking Clelin Ferrell, a move without which the Bills would not have been able to get Ed Oliver.
  14. Me too. I was already doing the old familiar thing of consoling myself ahead of time, setting myself up emotionally by talking myself into Jonah or Wilkins. So glad Ed Oliver fall. Still can't believe it. GRUDEN!
  15. I just pulled up NFL.Com's draft profile of Ed Oliver. These are literally the first words in it, and I'm not making this up: "Twitched up ball of explosive fury" Yesssssssssss!!!
  16. I don't think you understand how odds work. If there were literal odds on how successful each draftable DT's career will be (maybe there are? Bovada.com maybe?) in the NFL, I would be willing to bet that Quinnen Williams has the best odds, from an actual, literal betting perspective. It's why he's going to be a top 5 pick. It's why he's considered possibly the best player in the class. Mind you, I'm not arguing for them making this move. I don't necessarily want them to. But you're going a bit overboard in your preemptive griping, in my opinion.
  17. The only thing crazier to me than this notion of a trade-up to 3 is people already saying it would wind up getting Beane fired. Can we at least see the kid play a down in the NFL first? Not all trade-ups wind up poorly. I get that people are burned by Sammy Watkins, but that's not always how these things end. Just off the top of my head, the Falcons traded way up into the top 5 for Julio Jones and I doubt they regret it one bit. They've had a killer offense and a Super Bowl trip during Jones' tenure. Not saying I'm for this move, but people need to climb down off the ledge a bit here.
  18. Let me just say one thing: If the Bills DO trade up for Quinnen Williams and he winds up turning into a beast, like Aaron Donald 2.0 and launches the Bills defense into another stratosphere, we better keep receipts on all the people already pre-emptively calling to fire Beane in this thread. No Quinnen Williams jerseys for ANY of you chumps!
  19. When you say "long history of bad moves", I assume you mean moves made by PREVIOUS GMs? The list of bad moves by Beane, while it does have some notable inclusions (*cough* PETERMAN *cough*) isn't so long.
  20. I'll take the word of an actual NFL defender and the Bills' defensive rankings over the analytics wizards over at Profootballfocus. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2019/01/bills-lorenzo-alexander-says-star-lotulelei-earned-every-bit-of-big-contract.html Buffalo linebacker Lorenzo Alexander, who called Lotulelei “disruptive,” said that the former Panthers tackle was well worth it and is going to be a staple on the team for years to come. “Obviously he (doesn’t play) a sexy position, but he allows other people around him to make plays,” Alexander said. “I’ve definitely been able to have a pretty good year this year. A lot of it is contributed to what he’s been able to do as far as keeping guys off me, allowing me to run free. “In the pass rush, people can’t step up. On first or second down I know a couple of guys that have gotten sacks throughout the year just because Star has gotten that great push. He’s earned every bit of what he’s got with that five-year deal.” It’s hard to argue with the results that the Bills defense had this season, finishing the year ranked second in the NFL in total defense and No. 1 in pass defense.
  21. Every time Schopp gets brought up, it reminds me of the old quote about Howard Stern. "People who DISlike him are actually MORE likely to listen to him for longer!" "Why?" "Most common answer given? Because they want to see what he'll say next." Want to know how Schopp still has a job, despite so many people universally agreeing that he's the worst? Because people keep tuning in.
  22. LOL! If the asking price truly is 9, 40, a 4th rounder, AND next year's 1st? I can guarantee Beane won't make that deal. Two 1sts, a 2nd, and a 4th? C'mon, man!
