Week#9 Thread Bills vs. Redskins
Boatdrinks replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A “ touch pass” with a little air under it there is a nice juicy INT for that LB , and was exactly what he was hoping for. He had a great angle to jump it and Brown wouldn’t have even seen it. Wise no throw by Josh. -
Week#9 Thread Bills vs. Redskins

Nope. The LB is not fooled, ( he’s looking right at Allen before Brown even looks back) would jump the throw and be headed to the end zone. He was supposed to be drawn in by the run action to the weak side. Then you’d be complaining about the “ horrible , stupid pick 6 “ that Josh threw there. -
I’ll take a stab at deciphering your rather loose sentence structure and issue a retort. It’s a fact that the Bills changed out most players on their starting offense this season. Four new offensive linemen , currently 3 new WRs , and 3 new TEs. That’s hardly complacent , it’s a complete overhaul. Was adding a Sanders or Sanu going to put the Bills over the Pats this season? Probably not, and the GM decided the price being asked wasn’t in line with the quality. The Bills need a true #1 WR, and have their sights on bigger things than what was out there. The 49ers landed Sanders, but they’re in the NFC and not the Bills rivals. They and the Pats are in a different situation than the Bills, whether you want to admit it or not. The Pats are trying to make the most out of their last couple seasons with Brady, and the Niners are legitimate Super Bowl contenders. The Bills are not there yet, and another FA period ( they have a lot of cap room- among the most in the NFL) to add top players coupled with another draft should address most of their weaknesses.

Yep, LB wasn’t sucked in by run action. A throw to Brown there may have been jumped, wasn’t an option. Pretty much blew the play up. -
Waiver rules w regard to vested veterans apply until the trade deadline. Post trade deadline all players must go through waivers.

The Bills timing on and “ selling “ of the screen is terrible. They rarely look like they have one set up to break for big yardage. Probably a mixture of issues, but you can probably start with the OL. -

It would have, but the Eagles game was largely about offensive failure for the Bills. They got the short field they need after a takeaway on STs and turned it over on downs. You’re not beating many teams in the NFL scoring 13. -
LOS is soft because of coaching
Boatdrinks replied to uticaclub's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, those Rex teams lost plenty of battles at the LOS. This year’s team has been on the wrong end of it up front twice this season, and consequently lost both games. This team seems very tight knit , and that can be attributed to McDs steps to build it that way. There’s nothing soft about their approach to football though. This OL in particular is improved, but not yet complete. Sometimes the guy across from you is just better. -
Do you think the Bills are doomed to repeat 2008, 2011?
Boatdrinks replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There may be some fans that find anything negative to be idiotic, but those are complete homers and can be discounted. That’s a far cry from your notion, though. The OPs question wasn’t if it was possible that this 5-2 team could flounder, as others have in the past. It was whether they were doomed to replicate the failures of completely different teams, with completely different players / coaches in very different situations. So while only the biggest homers would say the team couldn’t possibly slip, only the “ sky is falling” critics of virtually everything the team does would say “ doomed” ! -
I don’t have numbers, but to my eye most ofAllens rushing yards this year have come on designed runs, some on scrambles due to coverage , then even less when the pocket has collapsed. It’d be interesting to see a breakdown of this. The OL has been good, not dominating, but the RBs need more carries.

What "type" of fan are you? Coming clean
Boatdrinks replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Die hard. Don’t attend as many games as I used to, but can only think of 3 games since ‘86 that I haven’t watched. Skeptical ( as most Bills fans have become over the years) but always hopeful. -
So the number of FAs signed indicates that all of those players have panned out as hoped thus far? That all holes were addressed ? Salary is one thing, and long term commitment is another. Many of these signings are of the variety that the team can walk away from relatively painlessly in short order. The signings were necessary because so many players on last year’s offense weren’t good enough to start in the league. Bottom line; when upgrading the 31st ranked passing offense from last year ( which they have : currently 23rd ) there are too many holes to fill in one FA period/ draft. Still a couple pieces to add. They’ve given Allen a better hand to be sure, but it’s not exactly a flush. The best thing they can do now is find their running game and stick with it. The passing game ( and thereby Allen ) will get a direct benefit.
-
The OP believes that Beane thinks the Bills have the pieces already ? This is doubtful. They still need a WR, Pass rusher and OT most likely. Many reports that the Bills were actively looking to trade for a WR support this notion. The Bills offense needs to do better, but it’s not yet a complete unit. The offense needs to be around the top half of the league in scoring points. They’re not there yet, but they can improve their output this year. Fewer mistakes by Allen and a commitment to the running game by Daboll should help in this area. Will Daboll do this ? That’s another story, and may ultimately decide where the Bills stand in week 17. The passing game has improved from last year’s horrible output, but it’s not good enough to carry the offense right now.

Do you think the Bills are doomed to repeat 2008, 2011?
Boatdrinks replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lol, doomed ? Of course not. The 2008 and 2011 teams have zero to do with this one. The coaching on those teams wasn’t as good, and the 2011 team had less talent. The ‘08 squad was quarterbacked by Trent Edwards. The Bills schedule remaining schedule is not difficult. They’ve lost to the teams an outside observer would expect them to lose to. They’re a decent to good team in a very mediocre AFC. While not a championship caliber roster yet, they can make the playoffs and possibly even win a wildcard game depending on the opponent. -
Not really. If team A and team B offer a 2nd rounder, that’s matching it. It’s safe to surmise that if NE and BUF each offered a 2nd that Sanu is in a Bills uniform now. SF would take the Bills pick based on probability but it’s not a sure thing. A 2nd rounder is a second rounder unless the Pats* own CIN’s 2nd round pick or something.
