Seems like good Fitz is still hanging around for now. ..

Again, when the offense can’t score the results get lopsided. McD is a defensive coach. His offensive hires are certainly fair game for criticism, though.

Glazer: Bills are still in market for a WR

Hmmm. Interesting , and I wasn’t aware of the interest in Sanu. Thanks for pointing it out, as they are very different. -

Bills were reportedly interested in Sanders, not in Sanu. Definitely two different types of players, so perhaps that’s why. Pats were trying to trade for Sanu since the offseason , but finally caved on the price. -

They may be smart, but just not very good. The Redskins offense is ranked 30th, ahead of only those Jets and Dolphins. They’re only 24th in rushing yards. They are not as talented top to bottom as the Eagles, but you might be on to something with the running game. They’ll either be starting Case Keenum or Haskins at QB. Running the ball starts to look pretty good when those are your options. -
Not all that surprising, since the Bills offense hasn’t been very good during McDs tenure to date. The challenge stat is alarming.

Glazer: Bills are still in market for a WR

They’ve all been attempting to exploit the weakness. Last year’s D wasn’t all that different. While their record might not show it, the Eagles are a pretty talented team less than two years removed from a Super Bowl win over the Pats*. Most of the Bills opponents this season haven’t been as good. As the players themselves stated, sometimes it’s not just Xs and Os, but Willies and Joes. Right now, that’s a tough one to disagree with. -

You may be right , Allen may not end up being the guy. WRs won’t change Allen, but the Bills WRs aren’t a great group. They know they need better and are looking to address it. If Allen ends up failing, the Bills are going to be certain it wasn’t for a lack of talent around him. It will also leave them in better shape for the next QB. I’d guess that the Bills would disagree with your assessment that the current WR corps is just fine. -

Probably. They’re not great against the run, and lack an elite pass rusher. -
Week 9: Bills (-10.5) vs Redskins

They might, but I’d be surprised. Not surprised they lost to the Eagles , and predicted they would lose 27-13. -

The Bills WR corps is fairly weak. It’s better than last year’s ( they overhauled it extensively) but still incomplete. That they are interested in WRs indicates they realize it is a problem. They want to put talent around Allen and see if he can be a franchise QB or not. -

5 years? NFL teams don’t take five years to rebuild these days. -
Week 9: Bills (-10.5) vs Redskins

Game was played in a sloppy mud pit, so I’m sure that had an impact. It did happen though. Don’t necessarily need to score to cover the spread. However most NFL games are not shutouts, or blowouts for that matter. -
The Willies and the Joes got manhandled on both lines yesterday, and they know it. There was sloppy execution all the way around and most of it had little to do with Josh Allen. He’s got to be better with ball security, as his habits when carrying it have been broken down endlessly and teams are making an emphasis to take it away. While the players may not state it openly, some decisions by the staff ( Daboll in particular ) have been suspect to say the least. For example, Im not sure why Daboll wants his QB running a sweep backed up in their own territory when teams are trying to strip him of the football. Maybe you’d like the RB getting a carry there.

How we get to 10 wins and playoffs...
Boatdrinks replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They’re 5-2, so they need to win 5 more. Probably doesn’t matter which 5, but any less than that and it could matter a lot. From the looks of the AFC this year, 10 is probably the magic number for a WC berth. -

No, they’re not. It would have to make sense for the present and the future. That is possible, and Beane has done it before. While it has another offseason to go, the team has an opportunity to do something this year. That’s always a priority, as next year is an unknown in sports. The schedule is also a lot tougher. Trades, FA, and the draft will all be used if they can improve the team and Beane has indicated this in the past. -
Bills 13, Eagles 31 postgame thread
Boatdrinks replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No need to slow it down there, slappy. I get what your stating, I just think it’s nonsense. The main reason for lower rushing totals is that the Bills don’t want Allen running all over the place. Last year Allen ran a lot because he didn’t know what he was looking at out there. He was winging it. This year, the Bills have made a concerted effort to get Allen up to speed and improve the 31st ranked passing game from last year because that won’t cut it. They know he can run, but they want to find out if he can be a franchise passer. The runs have been more controlled , mostly on designed plays. There’s little doubt that the Bills didn’t draft Allen to be a running back, though. There’s no long history of that type of QB succeeding in the NFL. You simply have to make plays from the pocket, and they’re running a version of the Erhardt-Perkins offense. If they wanted their QB to run most of the time, they’d have just traded down and drafted Lamar Jackson. There was plenty of film of Allen running last season if DCs were going to stop it. Allen did it because he couldn’t do much else. DCs only need a few games on film to take that stuff away. While they’re concerned about it somewhat, the Bills have drilled into Allen that they want him in the pocket and throwing passes first. That’s the main reason, not defenses. -

So you ( and thereby you believe the Bills ) want Allen running all over the place like last season ? Just that defenses are taking away what the Bills are trying to do with Allen ? That’s a very interesting take, I will give you that. I recall that the consensus was that kind of quarterbacking won’t work in the NFL and the QB doing so will probably have their career shortened due to injury. I’d bet most NFL observers would suggest the Bills want Allen to be a pocket QB, and the results show just that. -

I think it’s a concerted effort by the team to have him play more from the pocket, more than anything defenses are doing. Don’t you think defenses were trying to make a rookie “ play QB” last season ? A QB that plays the style that Allen played last year is likely to have a shorter NFL career. They want him throwing from the pocket, not taking off on long runs. -
Week 9: Bills (-10.5) vs Redskins
Boatdrinks replied to Cygnus99's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The line is simply to even out the money wagered on both sides. Not many people will bet on a team with just a single win by week 9. Taking the Redskins with the points looks like a pretty decent bet. -
Was too soon. TB is 42 now, he’s not likely to be doing this when he’s 47.

The optimistic side of the loss...nothing lost
Boatdrinks replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s an NFC loss, sure so not as damaging. It exposed many cracks in the Bills scheme, though. That’s worrisome going forward. The good news is there are a lot of mediocre teams in the NFL and many of them are on the Bills schedule. They weren’t winning the division anyway, and you could probably say that for about 26 other teams if they resided in the AFCE.
