Re-thinking the hiring of color commentators

Re-thinking the hiring of color commentators
oldmanfan replied to Miyagi-Do Karate's topic in The Stadium Wall
In general folks are way too critical of announcers. It is not the easiest job in the world, and if God forbid one is critical of the Bills then they automatically stink. The color guys by and large have played the game at the NFL level, and like it or not they know a helluva lot more about football than 99+% of folks on this board. Last week was an example. Sanchez was critical of Josh. And guess what? Josh didn’t play very well last week. -

How confident are you about the Bills going into the playoffs?
oldmanfan replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am guarded. The offense can roll over teams, especially given that Motir has picked up the pace. But the defense still allows too many second half drives to let the opposition get close. When we go up the D should stomp on the other team’s neck, but too often they walk right down the field. -
In defense of Josh 3 pix and low qbr

Josh is our guy and will be the guy for a long time. But he did not play well Sunday. It is OK to acknowledge that without getting all butt hurt that Sanchez or whomever offered criticism. The end zone pick was a terrible decision, and he went back to his habit of trying to go downfield vs. taking the more open underneath throws as he did against the Pats the week before. A guy of Josh’s caliber should never have below 50% completion and as low a QB rating as he had. Happens to the best of them every once in a while, I’m sure Josh would be the first to say he didn’t play well, and I’m equally sure he won’t have that kind of performance again anytime soon. -
Interesting stats from Shaw, not surprisingly. It’s OK for Bills fans to acknowledge that Josh stunk throwing the ball last Sunday. I suspect he’d be the first to say the same. But his uniqueness as far as a running threat also won the game. Josh still needs to work on taking what defenses give him. He was great at that against the Pats, but wasn’t against the Falcons.

Can we finally put the need for a dome stadium to rest?

Drop it because they’re not going to build one. -
He stunk throwing it today. It’s OK to acknowledge that. Josh would likely be the first guy to agree. It’s a good omen that we still scored 29 points even though he stunk.

Imagine that, running Josh on the one yard line gets a TD. Why the hell do you call a tackle eligible throw? -

Move Tremaine Edmunds to DE next season.
oldmanfan replied to r henderson's topic in The Stadium Wall
This stuff on Edmunds is really getting old. Bills fans since the beginning of the team seem to pick out one player and rag on him unmercifully for whatever reason. So a few points to consider: 1. He is not truly a middle linebacker. To have a middle linebacker, you have to have a middle, i.e. two other LBs on either side of you. We play two LBs who line up at different spots depending on the scheme for that play. So for those harking back to the type of run stuffing Sam Huff, Dick Butkus style of MLB, we don't have that. We don't have a defense like that. 2. They play Edmunds at LB because he can occupy a lot of territory in the passing game. The Bills D under Frazier and McD is set up to play pass defense. For run defense, they ask players to do their job and occupy gaps on a given play. Their run defense is team oriented, it is not meant to funnel the ball carrier to the classic MLB. So when sometimes we criticize Edmunds for not making a play, we don't know what his assignment is on a given play and it could be he is doing his job in the scheme called for but guys around him are not. 3. The concern about his anticipation of plays is difficult to ascertain, again because we don't know what his assignments are on given plays. I would say as you watch him he seems to react a split second early at times, as if he is thinking for that split second vs. reacting to what he sees. 3. I would agree that Edmunds, when he gets to the point of attack, can be more physical in shedding blockers and such. Everyone wants to see Edmunds become McD's Luke Kuechly for our D. I expect McD would love that too. Problem is, Luke Kuechly has a really good chance to be a first ballot HOFer. Those kinds of guys don't come around very often. For now, Edmonds fits the bill for what Mcd wants in his defense, a guy with size and range that can cover a lot of ground.
