It's Time to Mandate Vaccines

A virus that is 10-20 times more lethal than the flu is not a severe flu. -

Umm, you have proven over the last 20 months you don’t. -

If you look at the data vaccinated people do not stay infected as long, do not infect others at the same rate as unvaccinated, and of course are far less likely to be hospitalized or die. Immunity is more properly considered a population term in my way of thinking. For our population to acquire immunity, you have to remove hosts for the virus. You do that two ways: either have people get the virus and hopefully survive, or get vaccinated. I am all for studies of those infected and survive with so-called natural immunity, with comparisons to vaccinated individuals. What are the levels of antibody in each and how long do titers stay elevated? What about the cell-mediated immunity with each? We need more research in these areas. But at present what seems clear is vaccination even if previously infected individuals increases the immune response. You mention treatment options. Those would be great. But the best way to get meaningful data on that is to get well designed prospectively randomized studies. For hydroxychloroquine these studies were done and showed no positive effect of the drug. For ivermectin the studies have not been done; there are small studies suggesting an effect but they suffer from poor study design (small numbers, no controls, and such). I review a lot of papers for different peer reviewed journals and reject the majority of them because of flaws in study design. -

This is the way viruses work. They infect communities, hit the unprotected, and as more people get infected the number of uninfected hosts start to decline and infection rates go down. The peak for the delta variant in Florida was mid August, so it should be coming down by now as more people either get infected or get vaccinated. This is basic virology. You don't seem to ever want to try and understand that. -

You brought it up, so I'm responding in kind. If you were to look at those opposed to masks, opposed to vaccines, opposed to social distancing and such, which political persuasion was more more those and which was more against those since the beginning of the pandemic? I'm ignoring your cherry picking, by the way. Try again. A scientists with 40 years research and clinical expertise that understand a lot more about viruses than most anyone on this board. Are you denying the delta variant is more infectious? Do you want to actually go on record with that? -

Where exactly have I focused on Trump supporters? My comment was about health care workers not getting vaccinated. anyone regardless of race, political persuasion or whatever are putting themselves and others at risk by not getting vaccinated. I have also noted several times on this board that I support more studies on the immunity gained by natural immunity. But the problem, as you should know, with natural immunity is that you have to get infected with Covid to gain that, and that then u=puts you at risk for dying. As for getting the entire world vaccinated, absolutely. We need work on that too. But nice job on your end taking my comment on health care workers and turning it into a diatribe of other issues, some of which I've already commented on and agree with. Good focus on your end. Yeah, it's much more infectious, genius. -

That's a nice adult response. People of all ages are getting the delta variant. and when you have a public health crisis the entire public has to get on board including heath care workers. I work in health care in a 15,00 employee network. Of those, only 200 did not get vaccinated and they chose to end their employment. we have had required flu vaccinations and hep B vacciantions for years to protect our patients and it has never been an issue. The Covid vaccine is an issue only because folks like you have decided a public health crisis should be turned into a political football. People are dying because of that attitude. Congrats. -

Every virus is different. We were able to get more effective vaccines against some of those you mention because they apparently don't mutate to the same degree as Covid does. Covid I suspect will be more like the flu in that boosters will be needed yearly as new variants are found. We should all be glad Covid is not HIV, a virus that has been impossible to vaccinate against. -

You are being ridiculous. It is easy enough to look up the recommendations. Do you honestly believe the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology would recommend vaccines to women if they felt it would hurt them?- 146 replies

And this is where you are absolutely mistaken. I work in reproductive health care. The leading professional organizations advise those who are pregnant or trying to get pregnant to be vaccinated. You are deliberately spreading false information.- 146 replies

Where I work about 1% of our staff refused. To say medical staff does not want vaccine is a wild exaggeration. -

You did not read that because no one ever said that. What was said is the vaccines are safe because the very small number of adverse outcomes are far outweighed by the benefits of keeping folks from getting Covid. The CDC and other health care agencies around the world have done and are doing flow up on those vaccinated to make sure they find any adverse effects. How do you think they found the myocarditis complication, the vast majority of which resolve on their own? You bring up two people who died. That’s tragic. And may be completely unrelated to the vaccine. Aneurisms happen in young people and they go completely unnoticed until the burst. Healthy 46 year olds die from heart attacks and such every day. The data on the vaccines show there is no increased mortality related specifically to the vaccine. You obviously have an opinion you refuse to change based on facts. That’s sad. -

You can trust the CDC. The people that work there have comprehensive backgrounds in the science of epidemics, public health, and virology. They have dedicated their professional lives to this. No one has ever, ever, said vaccines are 100% safe. What is said is the benefits of the vaccines far outweigh any risks. The VAERS data has to report any side effect or death for any reason in folks receiving any vaccine. And the CDC and FDA have to follow up on it. When they do they find that except for a very few deaths they are not vaccine related. Viral diseases are difficult in general and the Covid even more so. The delta variant is much more infectious. In vaccinated people it can reside and multiply in the upper respiratory region for a few days, which is why you can still test positive and still transmit for a bit. But you don’t get the severe illness and death. You ask about immunity vs. protection. Immunity is a public issue. It involves getting enough people either exposed to the virus and surviving (natural immunity) or vaccinated to deprive the virus of hosts. Once that happens the virus can’t propagate anymore. Research continues on this virus. As more data is obtained opinions on how to attack it and recommendations for protection change. That is how science works.- 146 replies

There are multiple studies showing the data indicating there is no increased miscarriage rate. I look at the actual studies. You are looking at a women’s magazine. Look at the studies. Do you honestly believe the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the leading organization in the country for women’s health, would say the vaccine is safe if it’s not? I read somewhere 2.5 hours. -

Ridiculous assertion. Vaccinated people are at lower risk of transmitting and at much lower risk of getting seriously ill or dying. -

They have a guy who can’t play and refuses to go along with what the medical staff thinks is wise. If Eichel wants the alternative surgery so badly, let him sign a waiver that automatically voids his contract should he not be able to play for X time post-surgery. Adams is completely correct here.
