What would make you feel good about this game today at 4:00pm
mjd1001 replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1.) Most importantly, Josh Allen improving form last week and looking like he is on the way to being a star QB. Everything else that could happen added up might not equal Allen. 2.) D improvement. In all honesty last year, they were an average, or below average D unit that happened to get a lot of turnovers (which made them better). I want to see this D-unit generate more 3 and outs on a consistent basis. 3.) Some of our young players start to look like they are emerging as stars. Kyle Williams and McCoy and Jerry Hughes are good and all, but they aren't going to be leading this team for long due to their age/injuries/deteriorating play. I want to see some of the youngster emerge as potential stars...or at least very good starters/leaders. 4.) 2-3 guys on the OL emerge as possible long term starters? That may be asking for a lot though. -
I'd love to have a guy like Tyrod as a backup. I think he can function well as a #2 QB for a competing team. He'd just have to accept he is not there to compete for a starting job...and you'd need him on the roster for QB2 money...like the $5-$6 million per year. As a starter and for the money he is getting....no way.

Ok, most of us know the Bills are currently lacking in star power this year..and you don't expect the players stats to be too good after 1 blowout and 1 near blowout...but I didn't expect things to look this bad after 2 games: Bills total passing (both QBs:) 343 yards, 1TD, 4 ints League leader in yards: 819 20 different QBs over 500 yards 7 QBs over 600 yards 10 QBs with 5 tds or more Bills leading Rusher: McCoy 61 yards League leader in yards: 184 23 players with over 100 yards Bills Reception leader: 5 receptions (2 players) 89 yards League leader in Receptions: 28. Number of players with over 10 receptions: 45 League leader in receiving yards: 275 Number of players with over 150 receiving yards: 27 Once again, this isn't a huge surprise, but the fact the numbers are SO bad, shows just how bad the Bills have been on Offense.

I am SO SICK and tired of getting the Giants (and/or Cowboys) almost every single week. I get (but don't like) the national interest behind the Cowboys..but the Giants? All the time? How about a little variety?

Dolphins sign Nick O’Leary to practice squad
mjd1001 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought someone would have found a spot for him on an active roster. Is he Great? No. Is he above average? probably not. But he seems good enough to be a backup, or at the very least a good 3rd tight end on many rosters. -
Josh Gordon to be released-now traded to PATS
mjd1001 replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I kinda agree. There is a CHANCE this may work out for the Pats, but I put that at well under 50%. The Pats are taking on WRs the Browns don't want anymore, and one that the Bills got rid of pretty quick. Also, I'm not saying that Brady can't adjust to differnet WR styles (I'm sure he can) but it seems the Pats offense is predicated on WR's that do not pay the game Gordon does. They live on short slants, hitches, and the WR's knowing exactly what to do and being on the same page as Brady. Cooks last year was a big time WR, downfield threat and the Pats didn't want him after just one year anymore. -
[Edited Title] Patrick Mahomes Looks Great
mjd1001 replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he is going to be the greatest QB in the NFL in the near future, then its not just the Bills that missed him. The Browns, Bears, 49ers, Jags, Titans, Jets, Chargers, Panthers, and Bengals all left him on the board. All of those teams but maybe the Panthers and Chargers could have used a "GOAT" Qb. -
Halftime of week 2 of the 1pm games...what do I know about the league. Bills are very bad. Browns are better than last year. Not much else.

Mike Schoop.....fantasy guru? Lol
mjd1001 replied to Bubba Gump's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. There is a spot on the radio for a lot of fantasy football talk, but that is on one of their dedicated fantasy football hours. If you really want to talk about fantasy football that much (and I know SOME people want to hear it), then tell us what segment, or half hour of the show you are going to do it in so I know about it in advance and can tune out. I have defended WGR on this board many times, but that afternoon show is getting really bad, even to me. Most of the time I can deal with the morning show, when it starts at 6am they get onto the topic of the day (sports) pretty quick. The AFternoon show though? I can't tell you how many times I tuned in (even on some days with a 'pretty big' sports topic occuring), only to hear those two talk about their day...what time they got up...where they drove to, who they talked to in their personal life....and by 3:12 I've had enough and either go to satelite radio or 590 out of Toronto. It should NOT take 10 minutes of going through your personal life or recapping your daily schedule before you get to sports! -
McBeane's way of rebuilding makes no sense
mjd1001 replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Josh Allen turns out to be a QB worthy of a top 10 pick, then the strategy worked. The ONLY team in recent memory that has the rest of the team SO bad a franchise QB can't save them is the Colts, but even THEY ended up in the playoffs and an AFC championship game with their franchise QBs. -
A Few Thoughts About the Ravens Game, in no particular order
mjd1001 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
-QB is an issue, but I'm not sure putting Allen in will change things all that much, and behind this line he may get injured. It would be more fun to see Allen in there, but I'm not sure I'd start him yet. -The D is overrated (I have been saying that in posts leading up to the regular season). They are average at best. Not awful, but not 'good' as most on here seem to think. They still can't generate much of a pass rush at all up front, the LB's are ok...and D-backs are slightly above average as a unit (2nd QB is a bit hole now). The OL is awful The BEST you can hope for in pass protection is they give the QB a second or two (someone seems to get beat on EVERY play almost) and they are average run blocking. My big concern here is...you need a FEW good players to replace what you have, and that may take more than a year to get it to where you need it. WRs are below average across the board. Same as OL...I'm not sure you can fix this entire position with a single draft or FA class. I'm OK with the coaching for now. There isn't much to work with. -
Less concerned with O-line than most...
mjd1001 replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I AM worried about the OL, I think it is pretty bad. I'm not sure how scheming can make it much better...the only 'scheme' that will work is to get the QB to throw the ball after about 1.5 seconds every drop back. -
Roster is set, pre-season over, how are you feeling?
mjd1001 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the team will be pretty bad, but I'm O.K. with it (its what I expected). I think Peterman is probably a better QB than a lot of people think, but he won't look that good on this offense. I think the team could be pretty bad (3-13 or 4-12 wouldn't surprise me) but if things fall into place, I could also see as good of a record as 8-8. If I had to pick a record, I'd say 5-11. I see ZERO chance of having any kind of winning record though. With so many changes over the past year or so..I have no idea exactly what to expect. But even if they are bad, at least the beginning of the season will hold my interest because it will be only way I can see just what they are. -
If you hate the Bills why are you here?
mjd1001 replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Recognizing the Bills aren't as good as they can be, or we want them to be....does not make someone less of a fan. -
What do we draft with a top 5 pick next year ?
mjd1001 replied to QBorBust2018's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Bosa really ends up being the best player in college football this year, I'd say him. The Bills DL doesn't generate much pass rush, and the couple guys they do have are not getting any younger and better. -
How Many Bills Wins in 2018 Reg. Season?
mjd1001 replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you. I'd put most likely at about 5-11 though, not 6-10. COULD this team be 8-8? Sure, if whoever they start at QB exceeds our expectations (and national expectations), then sure. But right now I see too many holes on this team for them to be in the top half of the league. Honestly, I don't have a strong feeling at all (less than most years). If they finish as good as 8-8, it wouldn't surprise me much....if they are 3-13, it wouldn't surprise me much either. -
Looks like AJM might play the whole game?
mjd1001 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I could be wrong (like I often am) but I don't see the Bills trading McCarron. You are not going to get much back, and then you have to go out and get another QB, which will take a while to learn the playbook. If the OL is as bad is they seem, it is only a matter of time before Peterman gets dinged up..or seriously hurt. Then what? You want to put Allen behind that SAME OL...and with who as the next man up if he goes down? For what you would get for A.J....I don't think it is worth trading him. Besides, just how bad has he been? Not great, but he has a total of 16 attempts behind a bad OL in the preseason throwing to a sub-par set of WR's. That is less attempts than a lot of QB's have in one half of a regular season game. -
The NFL Should Extend Pre-Season with a Fifth Game
mjd1001 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2 preseason games, 18 regular season games. Expand the rosters by a few. Give the players their share of the additional TV revenue gained from the 2 extra games. Done, lets go. -
Bills hire Phoebe Schecter, NFL’s 3rd female coach
mjd1001 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe I'm nitpicking, but in the initial release on twitter from the Bills, it is an announcement she is hired as a coach and (of course) she is a woman, but no information about what kind of coach, what position, what responsibilities. If we are to treat men and women equally, how about making the announcement equally that she is a woman AND what her exact position is? -
If he were a free agent...FREE (no picks or players), I'm not 100% sure I'd want him if he is asking for $16-$18 million per year for 6 years. So, if that is his 'contract' price...I don't want to give up anything for him. I would maybe, MAYBE give up a 2nd next year...maybe a 1st in 2020...if you could get him on a 4 year deal for $60 or less total. I don't think either of those things are happening so I hope the Bills don't make a play for him at a higher price. It isn't the draft pick compensation that worries me so much....as the cost (in dollars and cap space) you are going to pay someone who will be well into his 30's by the end of the contract.

What areas of the team has Beane actually improved?
mjd1001 replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whats better now? Salary cap going forward I like the QB 'situation' better Secondary TEs -
I have trouble comparing anyone to Marino in this class. I hated Marino when he played, don't like him much as an announcer, and thought he was a huge baby on the field, but I think, despite being a Hall of Famer, he might be under-rated. The numbers he put up in that era, without much of a running game to fall back on, with the rules back then that are no where close to favoring the passing game that they are now...pretty incredible.

I'll add another one to "my own house/living room" I get to show up when I want...1 minute before kickoff or 1 hour before. I get to eat what I want...sit on my favorite couch. Have my phone with me or access to the computer if I want. If the game is awful, the remote takes me to another game. If I want friends over, I can invite them...if not...I have the option to watch the game myself. Can get stuff done during halftime. The second the game is over, I'm ready to do anything else I want (movie with the wife, clean the house, watch the next game, do the shopping or chores I decided to not do in the morning, etc.)
