  1. I've said this a few times but the Dolphins crowd was significantly better, louder and more intelligent about their noisemaking than the home opener crowd on MNF last year
  2. People are also pretty sure Watson was doing this a couple weeks ago lol. These guys just need to stay off twitter
  3. The commanders mowed over the Broncos with screens the week before facing us and I was nervous about that all week too fwiw
  4. There were 4 players either playing the wrong position or out injured. The Jags were rushing 3 and getting instant pressure. On the game clinching play, the right tackle stayed in his stance so late that he was still crouched while Allen was being sacked
  5. This is especially rich given their talking points before the game.
  6. I don't have #s for you but before Miami our RAC actually was only marginally improved from last hear. But then we got LOADS of it in the Miami game, and not just from the Diggs TD
  7. He was bad for sure but we would have had no trouble staying 3 scores ahead of them if they had capitalized on a few of their 8 drives that didn't end with a score.
  8. Yea, but a decent metric is one for which breaking it requires incredibly unrealistic scenarios like the one you describe
  9. Purdy is the exact kind of QB that McDermott makes mincemeat out of. Young, physically limited player that has started his career hot. Sean leaves them questioning everything. No doubt San Fran has the weapons to try and mitigate that, but their OL is NOT what it used to be.
  10. This kind of makes sense actually. If you are only hitting at a 50% rate and have SIX HUNDRED yards, your wide receivers are doing OBCSCENE work and you are being way too risky with that ball lol. Bringing in a hyper-unrealistic scenario doesn't really prove anything. The important thing to ask about a metric is, if you watch a bunch of games and understand its general score distribution, does it match up with what you saw from a quarterback in that game? Usually it does for me, at least it does it better than QBR which I believe is not even open-source. And it's not like anyone who hates passer rating has a better metric they point to and rely on. The reality is, any time there exists something that can theoretically be quantified in one easy number there will be humans who try to do it because it's a useful tool. Thanks- there was obviously an explanation for the "random" numbers, because nobody who develops metrics for anything just makes stuff up like OP implies. Cool to have the explanation, and that's usually the gist of it, shaping the distribution of performances so it is a bell curve around some mean to reflect the reality of the performances Ah, but you've identified the snag with this method yourself
  11. It's pretty clear from interviews that Elam gets lost in zone coverages and just doesn't have that intuition for where he needs to be and move to. He's fine in man coverage and has shown that. Beane's comments that they wish it was just a work ethic thing allude to the fact that something isnt happening right mentally when he is playing our system. Hopefully he can figure it out - he's young. But when you watch any film breakdown it's clear how important it is in our system (and any system) to be able to communicate and leverage yourself properly every play. These things aren't easy
  12. I've read that coaches scheme up about 15 or so plays in scripts to start out their first offensive drive or two, and they run down the list as long as they stay ahead of the sticks. This is often credited as the reason why offenses can march methodically down the field and score on the first drive, and then struggle the rest of the way. My impression is that teams don't write a new script at halftime, but if there was any time to sort of recollect and try to create an offensive narrative or flow after being stalled, that would be the time. It's interesting that a consistent theme of Sean's defenses are that they struggle on the first couple of drives before locking teams down. The Dolphins were able to score quickly on two drives, and then didn't do anything again until the first drive after halftime (when about half of the stadium was still in line at the bathrooms fwiw) when they presumably could have regrouped. Then, nothing again the rest of the way. Whatever edge these teams seem to get on us early, it appears that McDermott is great once the flow of the game takes over and it becomes a real chess match. I'd definitely rather have a coach that might be leaky during the scripted drive and great when the game settles in than the reverse
  13. I spend way too much time watching these videos each week
  14. I was disappointed by the crowd at the 2022 home opener, people were being loud when the Bills were on offense and didn't start cheering on defense until the ball was basically being snapped, they were just sluggish and particularly drunk that day. Seemed much more dialed in yesterday, the noise came almost as soon as the teams huddled up.
  15. And Jamaal Williams led the league in TDs on the same team in the same role. What's he done so far this year? JAG doesn't mean "bad player" either, it just means "typical player." Most RBs have good traits, Montgomery is no different. But bruiser RBs running behind the best run blocking line in the league will get TDs in the red zone, and that doesn't mean it's smart to use a 12th overall pick on a running back and staple him to the bench all season
  16. That was just insane. Worst call I've seen in my 18 years watching the Bills. The WR was not touched.
  17. It means "just a guy." Not a particularly special player, just another RB, which is what Montgomery is
  18. For years now they have been giving home teams ~1.5 points instead of 3
  19. My post is pushing back on the idea that we don't use Kincaid but across the lake where the grass is greener they Use Their Weapons, with an example of that very same team not using a significantly more expensive weapon lol
  20. I much prefer having Hyde + backup SS to last year dealing with having Poyer + backup FS
  21. Jaelen Phillips officially ruled out for Miami. That is probably a bigger blow to them than poyer is to us.
  22. All the same, we held them to well under 300 yards of offense in that game and only lost because Josh gave them a first and goal at the 7, and we missed a FG, short hopped an open receiver in the end zone on 4th down, etc.
  23. It's not good or anything but I have a feeling Poyer would have had a rough day anyway.
  24. You need to get a real sample size for anything to mean anything. It's a bit silly to use metrics this early in the season, but it's fun to do, but it's probably correct to go off of last year's version of an opponent until this year's version is better understood, nothing crazy going on there
