Don’t forget an amazing defense, and miraculous playoff runs. Never underestimate how valuable Tom Coughlin was as a coach either. Pat Shurmur is miles away from being half the coach Coughlin was. Eli needs a lot of help to win, and the addition of Barkley certainly qualifies. I just think that too much needs align in the perfect manner for Eli to win titles. The Giants should be worried about life after Eli because it’s coming soon. There is too much talent in the NFC to view the Giants as a legitimate contender imo.

It’s all the process. Allen seemed like their type of guy, and it’s no more complicated than that. I do believe that it wasn’t a good choice, but Beane and McDermott probably think that he is “their type of guy”. In that sense, this pick didn’t surprise me at all.

He can probably keep his house in Dallas. One of Allen’s overthrows will probably find him there.

Because guys with tons of potential who didn’t do much in college have already been drafted as the future of this franchise. It hasn’t worked out any of those times in the past.

Great post. The “ability to play in Buffalo” thing is a joke. It basically narrows down the number of guys we can choose from, and makes the Bills seem second rate.

The NFL is also very dependent on “Mickey Mouse” short routes. QB’s aren’t earning their cash by slinging the ball deep on every pass these days.

Not the end. Compare NFL completion percentages from the era of those guys to that of today. College would be the same.

Fair enough. My only concern is that Eagles fans could have seen that McNabb was really good in college. Allen was very average, and quite terrible against big time opponents. McNabb was electric with the Cuse. His downfall in college was his lack of success in big games. This same issue followed McNabb in the pros. If Allen’s NFL career is anything like his college career, he’ll be an inaccurate passing leader of an average team. College success doesn’t equal NFL success, and vice versa. My greatest concern is that Allen has done nothing in college to show he can be franchise QB. He is a pure potential pick, and that is scary.

This ^ There is something very “Billsy” about this pick. We didn’t get a guy from a big time school who had vast success in college. Instead, we get the small school guy who was quite average in college. Allen just seems second rate. I remember being excited about Losman, Maybkn, Spiller and all those picks. Maybe I’ve just grown jaded, but this pick just feels wrong. It just doesn’t give me any reason to feel excited. I really hope I’m wrong.

Reminds me a lot of JP Losman.
