I did not know chows had that reputation, but I guess I’m not surprised. ANY big dog can be dangerous to some degree. It brings back a memory. I was at the Salty Dog Cafe on Hilton Head one night (I don’t gamble, but I’d bet you’ve seen one of their T-shirts) when a chow and a big (maybe 90-100lbs) male Golden got into it on the deck between the bar and the marina. It got loud and ugly quickly and people were freaking out. The owners were nowhere in sight at that moment, so I went up behind the Golden, grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and pulled him away. Things immediately de-escalated and it took a few minutes for all the adrenaline, human and canine, to ebb. Long way to get to the moral of the story: I went with the odds. And admittedly what I was familiar with, but I had no fear that the Golden would turn on me. Hell, he might have been thankful. If he DID turn on me, I was young and had no fear of any Golden. They were not bred to be killers. It’s more than the mentality, how lethal is the weapon? .

Yep, he’s not our top priority, but when I watch him he just looks like a football player to me. That may sound stupid, but he feels smart and gritty to me.

Absolutely correct. My 5th Golden was a dumb impulse purchase from a backyard breeder. Selling the litter was one of the last things they did before closing their restaurant and skipping out of town. I don’t think they were evil people, I just think they knew nothing about breeding and saw a way to make some money. Our pup was sweet as could be, but she developed a thyroid problem requiring daily medication. The vet warned us she could become dangerous if her levels got too out of whack. She was also a submissive peeing dog. Sweet, but poorly bred thru no fault of hers. There are good and bad dogs from every breed.

I kind of touched on this earlier, but I have no idea how they can do this in a practical and accurate way. Does every dog get a DNA test? How much is too much? I’m not big on people telling me what I can or can’t do in the first place, but something like this does not seem practically enforceable. What am I missing?

A guy on my college hoops message board is a director at a shelter in his area. He says Pit Bulls account for well over 80% of the population at the shelter. I looked at volunteering at a shelter near us, and that number seemed very conservative. They are irresponsibly bred and that’s not the dog’s fault, but that doesn’t make them safe. Of course the shelters are going to sell you on the virtues of the creatures they can’t get rid of.

Sometimes I wonder why I keep coming back here.

We are seconds and/or inches away. No game, or even play, is on one guy. It will be our turn.

I think they may all want to be beloved like Scott Norwood. We need that sports psychologist from Ted Lasso to fix this. You know, the sneaky ninja shrink who changes seats without ever moving. That is the kind of Mojo this team needs!

I look at a lot of real estate and almost all condos and some HOA’s have restrictions on pets. It’s usually yes/no on cats and dogs, with quantity and size restrictions. More recently I’ve been seeing “Breed” under restrictions. How do they even plan to enforce that? Do you need a 23 And Me style DNA test? How much is too much? I get the sentiment, but how in the world do they plan to enforce that? I used to work with a guy who I thought was “normal”, until I saw the sinister look on his face when he said “I like to see the fear in a grown man’s eyes when I show up with my dog.” There was something spooky about that look, and it changed my impression of him. .

I’d love to win a Super Bowl, which I’ve been clear about. My life will not be a failure if I never see them do it. And I was responding to someone who suggested their funeral was also just a matter of time. Should I have wished for that first?

I’m not sure if Jones touched him or Dawkins got pushed back into him, but it was not a clean throw. You can decide to be angry because we can’t quite get over the top in the playoffs with the Chiefs in our way, or you can focus on how close we are. I’m with McD in this case, they can get this done.

I actually prefer that he NOT publicly throw anyone under the bus. After 13 seconds our ST coach quietly moved on. They were trying to get better.

The difference being, we can’t win a Super Bowl soon enough. 😋

That’s not what I take from it, at all.

I never have to worry about my Goldens around the grandkids. I wouldn’t let them in the same room with a Pit Bull. I won’t take an unnecessary risk with what is most precious to me.

I was on record as expecting a lot more than many others expected last year. I was wrong and I own it, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him go on and do fairly well.

I just wish I had Wegmans as an option. Cool bags, good idea.

These days with fentanyl, I can’t imagine taking that gamble. It shouldn’t be a shock if things go a bit sideways…….. or worse.

I think they opened for the Stones in Rich Stadium in 1976. I can’t be sure, it’s a fuzzy memory.

I’m no Einstein, but that sounds very bad. You think he’s going to peruse his dream of a hockey career, like Dion and Bo as a 2 sport guy? What happens with Tre is intriguing. He was so clearly hesitant to come back from the ACL I wonder what it will look like after the Achilles. Are those the two WORST injuries you can have, especially for a CB? .
