    Another factor that might be in play is the high tax rate in Canada. I work there and I am taxed at 46%. I think NHL players would be at 53.53%. That's a big hunk of money they leave on the table.

    Not sports related, but when I was a kid in the 1970s there was a Corner Store about to open in our neighborhood. The sign went up with the slogan, "Open 7 days 'til Midnight." I actually asked my dad, "Why would they go through all of that trouble to build a store that is only going to be open for a week?"
