  1. He still might. Definitely a chance he doesn't get the kind of deal he wants and hangs them up. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.
  2. The Bills can trade Sammy for two 1st round picks in the same way that The Angry Birds Movie can win the Best Picture Oscar.
  3. Pump the brakes. He's the only QB on our roster who has started an NFL game. Let's revisit this discussion in the next offseason though.
  4. Yes. I might be a little high on the $17M too. $16M-$17M range.
  5. Those are 2017 numbers. Option numbers are calculated as transition tag numbers for the previous season. So the Bills declined the 2018 option for Watkins at $13.3M. The WR franchise tag number will probably be about $17M next season.
  6. Yeah. If they aren't willing to take the chance on his option year, there's no way the Bills are going to take the risk of giving him a big contract with a large signing bonus - even if he has a big 2017 season.
  7. Sammy will give his best this season, but it'll be his last in Buffalo.
  8. The route to a huge salary for Sammy in Buffalo was for them to pick up the option. This is a clear signal that the two will part ways after this upcoming season. I don't see a path to him remaining a Bill except for the franchise tag. If he has a poor season, then he will hit FA and take a short, prove it deal somewhere with a proven QB and an offense that can get him paid. Results from a mediocre or good season season will get him the same except with a better deal. A great, injury-free season could definitely get him tagged by Buffalo, but that would likely just keep him here one more season. I can't see both sides agreeing on a contract though. This FO isn't going to give him a huge deal because of his injury problems. If they were willing to gamble on those, then they'd have picked up his option.
  9. No. He doesn't have much of a choice as it is a team option. He agreed to it when he signed his rookie deal. There's literally nothing new for him to sign. He could hold out, but wouldn't have any leverage and could lose a lot of money.
  10. No salary cap on coaches, GMs and other FO people. I'd pick up the option on Sammy, but I don't know what his foot really looks like from a medical standpoint. Maybe that's the issue. Edited to add: The option immediately guarantees for injury and fully guarantees in March.
  11. A FQB certainly might've saved him and Rex sure didn't help, but he didn't help himself in a lot of ways either. Had he been running a tighter ship and made some better decisions he might still be here. He had a lot of missteps beyond what was forced on him.
  12. I've disagreed with you a lot on this board, Kirby. But not on this. You're spot on. I'll celebrate Whaley's departure a bit. He's getting paid large for subpar performance. Wish he'd have been worth his contract. But I take no joy in what's happening with the rank and file scouts. Had Whaley done a better job, then maybe this wouldn't be happening to them.
  13. When you answer this, say "Hello, McDermott residence. Whom should I say is calling?"
  14. Choad Kelly. Terrible person with much less football acumen than many think. We dodged the most unnecessary and futile QB controversy since Tim Tebow was in the NFL.
  15. I loved the draft overall. The trade back for an additional 3rd and 2018 1st while still getting a top CB was a quality maneuver. I won't claim to know a ton about many of the picks, but they sure filled needs and all look like good values where taken. I wasn't very high on this QB class, but I did like Peterman quite a bit. He was an outstanding value. I gave it an A.
  16. There's a difference between saying that something is certain and that something looks bad. I'm saying the latter. If the Panthers had jumped the Bills twice in this draft for two players that we intended to draft right after those picks and then almost immediately hired our assistant GM to be their GM, you wouldn't think anything was fishy? You'd be cool with that?
  17. Certainly looks like there might have been some inside ball there. We did jump them for a couple of picks. We'd all be livid if this situation was reversed. Hopefully we skate, but it doesn't not look great.
  18. Things might get a little uncomfortable for the Bills initially if Beane, the assistant GM of the Panthers, is the new GM here. I noticed that the Bills jumped them twice for players in the draft. Hopefully nothing comes of that. But I do expect him to be the choice. As for Whaley, he was a mixed bag here, but I thought he should've been sent packing with Rex. The bottom line with him was that he gave us non-playoff teams at SB contender salary cap prices. Overall he had more poor moves than good ones, including some bush league mistakes. I certainly don't feel the least bit bad for him as he will be collecting way more money than he was worth for his time here.
  19. I think that trust is waivering. He's heading into his 5th season and is 1-3 in playoff games. He needs to get over the hump. I'm not sure what other offers there were, but it's telling that 3 QB needy teams with new people in charge traded out of 2, 10 and 12 where these QBs were taken.
  20. Or Reid is overpaying on a trade and reaching on a QB prospect because he's being pressured by ownership to get over the hump and really compete for a SB. Such pressure can cause individuals to take riskier chances than they otherwise would. In this kind of scenario a GM or HC takes a big gamble on a QB prospect with a high ceiling, but a relatively low chance of success. But it still gives them a chance to keep their job and that's better than the alternative which is building the roster and taking more reasonable risks with slightly lower chances of a payoff. What does it matter to that HM or HC if he gives up future picks? If it doesn't work, then he's out anyway and someone else has to deal with it.
