  1. No way do they release him outright. The Raiders can recoup the cap space for his guaranteed salary one game at a time by keeping him suspended. (Also they don’t have to pay it to him.) That'd be $914k per game for anyone counting. Two years worth of salary is guaranteed at that.
  2. You couldn't possibly have meant "offer the man a fair contract".
  3. Or trade for one that wants paid.
  4. Kyle has earned enough that he should get to do what he wants to do. I highly doubt that includes 80 hour work weeks as an NFL coach. But if it does, more power to him. Maybe a cushy sideline or front office job would suit him though. Get him on camera for the team or make him a player liaison or something if he wants to stay around the team. It’d be nice to continue to see him involved in some way.
  5. One thing to remember- acquiring a player like a stud WR can be done via trade. Just because there aren’t many WRs set to be FAs doesn’t mean we can’t find one that way. If Allen takes a good step forward this season I think McBean makes a push to complete the team.
  6. Not with the contract he’s asking for. No premium contracts or draft picks for RBs unless the NFL changes a lot of rules.
  7. Draft or FA priorities: - #1 WR - CBs - Trent Murphy extension or replacement - Finish OL if needed - DL depth There are a few other lesser priorities like another RB, but those are what I have. There is some real money needed to do that, but we have plenty. More than enough. Here’s a link to a useful multi year view of contracts: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/yearly/cap/
  8. Probably some sizable upfront money for Zeke and a huge contract number that his agent can tout to prospective clients.
  9. The play and hit by Adams around the 9:15 mark really exemplifies Greggg’s defense. Big hits and big plays but some telling issues. One is that Greggg prioritizes big hits over tackling. He thinks that the risk of missed tackles is worth the increased odds of turnovers. Despite everything I’ve seen that shows that’s a losing strategy, he persists. Also the narrator is talking up the defenses big plays - and they definitely get some of those - but the score is 10-0 Saints. That is indicative of the problem his defenses have of giving up big plays. Greggg’s defense amplifies whatever offense he’s going against. If it’s a poor, undisciplined offense then his D will destroy it. If it’s a disciplined and efficient offense, then his defense will get gashed all day.
  10. I think that I was pretty clear in specifically pointing out that wasn’t what I said. Important and telling, yes. “Everything you’ll need to know” as you inferred? Not by a long shot.
  11. It’s not just about the W or L. For the Bills it’s about seeing if Allen has progressed over the offseason, about how much improvements truly have been made to the WR corps and OL, etc., etc. It’s about how we look relative to another AFCE team that’s also trying to contend. Of course the W or L matters a lot, but there’s more here that matters - and it matters more than if we were playing the Texans or Vikings.
  12. I agree that what sucks is the Texicans helping the Dols our with their rebuild. Miami’s FO should send BoB a nice fruit basket or something.
  13. PFF’s take on this for anyone who’s interested.
  14. Great coaching, excellent talent and proclivity to break rules to get further advantage is truly a recipe to build and maintain a dynasty. It really has been a combination of all 3.
  15. Terrible, terrible shame if true. Just awful....
  16. Yeah, it isn’t a stretch to think that a person who is athletic enough to play QB in the NFL also played the position in baseball that typically requires the most athleticism.
  17. I did not ever think that Buffalo tried to tank. Their problem was sticking with Tyrod and trying to win as much as they could while rebuilding. Then they were in the hunt for the playoffs (which they made) and made some moves like acquiring Kelvin Benjamin to try to help them get there. Their purge was more about ridding the team of players that didn’t fit their systems than anything else. Obviously they also purged a lot of contracts eating up cap space. That wasn’t a tank. Cleveland tanked. Miami is tanking. Both of those teams tore their rosters down to the studs, acquired as much future draft capital as they could and went from there. And now that I think about it, Indy did a mini tank job for a season to get Luck by starting a garbage QB all season long.
  18. Just saw that. Guess I was wrong there. I can’t believe that they are going with Jarrett Stidham as Brady’s backup. Thought they were doing the same thing with him as they are with Thomas. Wow.
  19. It is a moot point. Hoyer will be re-signed by NE. It’s a game BB plays. They cut Demaryius Thomas too and he’ll also be re-signed. It’s a little game that can move cap space and, more importantly, get young players to the IR without subjecting them to the waiver wire. Also those players will be available to come off of IR late in the season because they will be on the 53 man roster on Monday. The Browns are doing this with Robinson to get a rookie, Forbes, to the IR.
  20. So I guess they’d be playing with the same LT that they had when they went 11-5. And we haven’t even gotten into the fact that, if it was indeed such a big problem, why they didn’t do anything about it before that panic move.
  21. I disagree. You are selling Clowney short. He has been borderline elite. In the last 3 seasons Aaron Donald has the most tackles for loss in the NFL. Second on that it’s is Clowney. And he did that primarily as a 3-4 OLB. And they got next to nothing for him. A (probably) late 3rd, a bust and a JAG. That is in no way defensible. Heck, they could’ve gotten a third round comp pick just for letting him walk. Now to the Miami trade. Even considering that those picks are LIKELY TO BE in the 20s, it’s still a poor trade value-wise for the talent received. 2 firsts and a second for a very good, young LT and a middling WR is not great return. Also consider this: What if Watson gets hurt again? How many wins will AJ McCarron get them? Those picks can't going to be a whole lot worse than the 20s, but there’s a chance that they’ll be a lot better.
  22. Word from the CLE is that the Browns did Colquitt a solid and let him choose where to go rather than trade him. Too bad. He’d have been nice to have had as part of the Teller trade.
  23. I’d wager that the Miami trade has a lot to do with Luck’s retirement. Indy was definitely the favorite to win that division prior to that. Now it’s the Texicans to lose unless I’m grossly underestimating what Foles can do in Jax or Tanny can do in Ten. Edited to add: None of that changes how bad of a trade it was from a value standpoint.
  24. The two trades were terrible. Honestly, the whole Clowney give away is literally the worst NFL trade I can think of. The others in the running would all be ones where teams traded players and/or picks for a draft pick and then blew that pick. The Miami trade is really bad, but it isn’t as bad as the Seattle trade. This was a huge overpay by Houston - two firsts and a second - for a very good, young LT and a middling WR. (I know there are also some later round picks and JAGs involved, but I’m considering them a wash.) These are moves made by a desperate HC who is trying to win now at all costs. BoB is screwing that franchise long term to try to save his job. A decent owner wouldn’t have allowed this to happen.
