Tua and his sensitive fan base (JA17 Related)
Luka replied to billsbackto81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Watched a couple third downs from that game. One Tua threw for 5 yards on 3rd and 11, the other he air balled it to no one. There was another longer passing play where he skipped the ball about 6 yards short of the receiver. His receivers make some great plays after the catch. -
Here's hoping AR15 can pull his head out of his ass and make some plays this week. Really hate losing to Kentucky.

Makes perfect sense with NIL deals, etc. Little cash goes a long way to pull better players. Transfer portal helps also. Good player sitting on a bench somewhere can end up starting for a different school he may not have considered coming out of high school.

Baldy's Breakdowns from last night's demolition
Luka replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not sure who this is for but I'm speaking of play calling, not design. The strategy and tempo is all being handled by Ken. There are only so many plays so I don't think modern OCs can be given credit for actual play design, everything is derivative in a 100+ year old sport. -
Baldy's Breakdowns from last night's demolition
Luka replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall
It was "too soon" hot take. But I mean, all through preseason and then into last night the play calling just looked different. Way more screens, shorter routes. I think the difference is that Ken seems to build up to shot plays. Gets the defense in close, spreads them out horizontally and makes them respect the edges. The big play to Davis where the Rams incorrectly guessed short pass and brought pressure was built up to. Gave Allen an extremely favorable look and we know the results. Allen's completion percentage speaks to this. He was being given high percentage throws all night. -
Baldy's Breakdowns from last night's demolition
Luka replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall
Was getting mocked in the shoutbox but I still think Ken is a big improvement over Dabol from a play calling standpoint. I guess we will see what it looks like in more adverse situations to pass final judgement but it just seemed like more of a pro offense. More screens, runs on first down. Just made more sense. No whacky gadget plays.- 62 replies

Jordan Phillips is the best DT on this team.
Luka replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
Phillips is a great pass rushing DT. I don't know about being better than Oliver but I know one thing, I was definitely right when I said it was dumb for Beane to let him go originally. -
These threads are fun. Just FYI, if you actually watched the game last night, you'd have seen Elam in on obvious passing situations. The concerns with Elam are in the run game. Once we were up 14, Elam was on the field more and more. Taron was also out there, Jackson was out there. Coverage by committee.

Were the Bills "Hiding" Cook's skillset in the preseason?
Luka replied to ChicagoRic's topic in The Stadium Wall
He got treated as the starter, as did Singletary and Moss. All 3 will play roles in this offense this season so not sure why it's surprising to see little of any of them. It's no secret the coaching staff wants all 3 healthy entering week 1. -
One of the most embarassing things I've seen in a football game. I think the players can kind of sense when their coach has no idea what he's doing and a call like that solidifies it.

Which player on the roster baffles you that they are on this team?
Luka replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm just wondering how Blackshear and Hodgins AREN'T on the team. Remember when Beane and McDermott almost made this mistake with Gabriel Davis? I understand the running back position is undervalued but in this offense, having a stable of wide receivers who can get it done in the event something terrible happens you'd think would take priority. Hopefully he catches on somewhere else, not in our division. -
A manogram is an important yearly checkup at Sandusky's age.

I wasn't implying he is often injured, I was illustrating that in year like this, where it's Super Bowl or bust, you don't want John DiGorggio out there if the worst was to happen to Edmunds. Depth is extremely important in a 20 game season.
-
Considering the Bills have not extended Edmunds, I find the LB competition to be the most intriguing aspect of this camp and preseason. Can you make the argument that the defense is worse off without Edmunds on the field? His rookie contract, paying out 3.5 mil a season up until this point, was seen as a great value. Will Beane be willing to pay him $15 - $20 mil a season for the same performance? Spector, Bernard, Giles-Harris, all played well yesterday, all had an impact on the game. A lot of it is most likely attributed to the dominance of the front 4, but they still had to take advantage of their opportunities. Spector looked great in the run game. His movement and gap integrity looked veteran-esque at times. His understanding of the coverages however, seemed to be about what you'd expect from a rookie. Bernard is continuously around the football. That kind of dedication payed off with the scoop and score. And Giles-Harris had a couple of great plays in coverage, the main one being the 3rd down pass breakup that forced the Colts to punt. Does Beane or McDermott view any of these guys as a "replacement" for Edmunds? No. But are they looking at the next man or men up in the event that they decide Edmunds isn't worth the asking price he will most likely command in the offseason? Absolutely. And aside from that, Milano and Edmunds have both gone down with injuries in the past. Having the depth to back them up is important. You do not want a steep decline in performance if one of them goes out. Giles-Harris certainly made his case to sit behind Milano yesterday but the spot behind Edmunds remains a question mark. Matakevich has it by default, we'll see if Spector can impress enough to make Beane consider moving on from the vet and clear some cap space.

I'm not arguing for Johnny, just that some women think they can do no wrong just because they happen to possess a *****.

Just another psycho broad leveraging the fact that she's a woman so how could she possibly be in the wrong?

Bottom line is the kid is electric in the open field. He's not going to be the workhorse back. But on these sweeps and screens, he will be a huge step up from Moss/Singletary. If I were Dorsey I'd be designing a lot of plays out of a two back set. A nice extra wrinkle for the offense to have Singletary and Cook on the field where you can run or pass with either Cook out of the backfield, motion him out, hand off to Singletary, etc. I think what is lost on our fan base is how predictable Dabol's playcalling was at times. A lot of that had to do with we have some one trick ponies on offense. That's the biggest reason Beane has tried to get some players that are more versatile.

Are there any NFL teams with a #1 QB worse than Baker Mayfield?
Luka replied to tomur67's topic in The Stadium Wall
It has nothing to do with his talent and everything to do with what Cleveland expects to get in return for him. Getting Watson was literally the dumbest move you could make as a front office. There is now way to predict how long he could end up suspended for. It could be games. It could be seasons. Hell, it could be indefinitely. So the Browns have to approach trade offers as they are trading their starting QB. Because they are, most likely. -
Rd 2, Pick 63 (31): RB James Cook, Georgia
Luka replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
So you'd rather have him overspend on a RB in free agency? An even above average edge rusher isn't in the same ball park as the running back position, especially with a QB like Josh Allen. -
Rd 3, Pick 89 (25): LB Terrell Bernard, Baylor
Luka replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Left out the first part... BACKUP OR ROTATIONAL. If he's a backup, I would assume he would come in for Milano if he gets hurt. If he's rotational I would assume it was Edmunds he'd replace due to his cover skills or he could come in as the 3rd backer. Sorry I forgot I was on the internet, where people read/hear what they want to. -
Rd 3, Pick 89 (25): LB Terrell Bernard, Baylor
Luka replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I did see his Sugar Bowl performance but didn't initially put the face (number) to the name. Saw him in a couple games through out the season last year and from that little exposure and seeing his measurables from the combine he's a Milano type of LB. High motor, all over the field, great athleticism. We won't know anything until we see how the Bills plan on utilizing him in their scheme. Is he a back up or rotational? Who does he come in for? Edmunds? Milano? 3rd backer? It will be interesting to watch this offseason. My hope is that he gives the staff enough that they feel they can move on from Edmunds, who has been mediocre his entire career and has yet to develop in the Kuchely type of MLB everyone swore he would. -
Rd 2, Pick 63 (31): RB James Cook, Georgia
Luka replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well bud you're gonna have a rough go of it from here on out. This is how you maintain a team with a $250 million QB on it. Beane doesn't have the luxury of going out and making big splashes in free agency anymore. It's going to be need over "value" every year. And seriously, these grades placed on players only ever matter when trying make hindsight arguments after a player plays for a year or two. The only grade that matters is the one Beane has placed on the player. He doesn't look at Todd McShay's mock draft and go "oh, if Todd thinks this of that player, I better move him on my big board." Concerning Cook, he was argued to be the best receiving back in this draft. We were not looking for a thumper or a guy that can carry the ball 30+ times a game. Josh needs a reliable outlet out of the backfield at the very least, something Moss and Singletary have proven they can not be. But more than that, just like we're seeing with the tight end room this year, the Bills are looking for guys that can also be split out. I think we're going to see more uptempo. Josh and Dorsey need guys that can catch the football and make plays downfield and in open space and they have to be able to do it from various positions on the field. Howard and Knox are good blockers but have the athleticism to stand up and create mismatches with linebackers and safeties. Cook is great on the outside and has the speed to turn the corner or hit holes in zone runs but he's also an excellent receiver and has the speed to turn quick crosses and wheel routes in to big plays. -
Rd 6, Pick 180 (1): Punter Matt Araiza, San Diego State

The Josh Allen of punters. We know he can kick it out of the stadium, but can he develop the touch and nuance needed to keep it out of the end zone?
